Remember, remember ... what?welcome to York in this beautifully autumnal month of November. if you’ve visited us early in the month to experience guy Fawkes Night in the city of the gun-powder plotter’s birth, do be careful. here in York we don’t really go in for all that fancy fireworks and bonfire nonsense and instead like to spend 5th November quietly in our homes, judging other cities for making so much noise and mess.

Not really, we’re big on the bangs in York. after all, if it wasn’t for us, there wouldn’t be a bonfire Night. So, to the rest of the nation we say you’re welcome. mind you, they don’t burn an effigy of guy on the bonfire at St peter’s School in clifton; it wouldn’t do to set an old pupil alight!

if it is big burning piles of wood you’re interested in this month, may we recommend you peruse these pages to find info on kaboom, the firework extravaganza with a paranormal theme at castle howard, the a-maze-ing display on offer at York maze, the explosive fun promised in dunnington, as well as many more.

but if you’re here for the long haul and looking forward to settling into York for a while, may we suggest you flick through the pages to find the many festive events listings. we know, there are still rotting pumpkins on people’s doorsteps but already the jolly bearded one is making an appearance. That said, there is no better place to be at christmas than York, with our markets, winding streets, and the fact that the Nativity actually happened here.
