Aim: to foster a critical understanding of the relationships between literary culture and business

Objectives: by the end of the module you will be expected to demonstrate:

• Knowledge of some of the ways in which business has shaped the history of literature from the 19th century to the present day

• An understanding of how particular writers have responded to the demands of the market place

• An understanding of the relationships between culture and money in a modern cultural institution
