We hope you have many happy days and wonderful learning experiences during your time at EHS.

Whānau Groups – We need YOU to vote!

At the beginning of the year, the Year 3 to Year 6 classes received a letter from me requesting their ideas and proposal for the names of our Whānau Groups and the reason they had chosen them. This was a class inquiry and although disrupted by Covid, all classes were able to submit their presentations to me last week. Ann Gwilliam, Jo Hall and myself were impressed with their thinking!

The overall theme that appealed to classes was to name our Whānau Groups after trees in our local area. The students did research and really thought about why a particular tree was chosen and how it reflected us as learners at Eastern Hutt School.

This is a very important decision as our Whānau Groups will become part of the culture of EHS for years to come. Therefore it is important they reflect the voice of our community and we would like you to:

1. Read through the final Proposal which gives background to why we are creating our Whānau Groups and a collation of the class work submitted.

Creativity in Lockdown

During Lockdown and EHS Learning at Home, we were all very impressed with the levels of creativity by

students and families! Luken Robertson in G1 got busy with his Mum and wrote this poem over 2 weeks. They

then sent if off to the Prime Minister. Luken was surprised and extremely excited to receive a reply! Enjoy a read

about the Robertson Bubble in Lockdown below!

28 May 2020 Kia ora, Luken Thank you so much for taking the time to get in touch with me. I really appreciate the thought and effort you have put into your poem! I’m sorry I’m not able to write you a longer letter – things are pretty busy just now, but your given me lots of energy to keep going. I’d really like to thank you for doing your bit to stop Covid-19 too – you’re doing a great job, and I do know it isn’t always easy. Thanks again for writing to me and brightening up my day! Very best wishes to you and your family, Jacinda Ardern Prime Minister

Road Safety/Parking

Eastern Hutt School is busy before and after school.

There is often lots of children – who do not always understand the danger of roads and vehicles. Make sure to take

extra care when parking on the roads and streets around the school and follow the signed parking rules at all times.

Please avoid drop offs and pickups in yellow lined marked areas.

This is to ensure road patrol students can see clearly across both sides of the road and can make safe calls to allow

children to cross safely.

A few handy tips:

Say goodbye to your children on the school side of the road or at a pedestrian crossing.

Walk across the road and meet your children after school (never call them form the other side of the road).

Try to leave home early to avoid arriving at the busiest times.

Follow the directions of all signs.

Park a safe distance from all crossings.

Always single park (double-parking causes accidents and traffic jams).

Try parking a few streets away from the school and waling with your children.

Organise a car pool with other parents – reduce the number of cars trying to park around the school.

Parents – Staff Car Park Please do not drive into the staff car park to drop off or collect your children. Children must

not walk through the car park.

Spare Clothes

With winter here and students having accidents or playing in puddles, it would be good if your child had a

spare set of clothes in their bag to change if they get wet/muddy or have an accident.

If your child has borrowed some of the school’s clothes, please can they be washed and returned.
