EnrollmentEligibility________________

TobeadualenrollmentstudentatSKC,youmustmeetthefollowingrequirements:

• Be enrolled in a high school that has acurrentdualenrollmentagreementwithSalishKootenaiCollege.Home-schooledstudentsmayenroll throughtheschooldistrictinwhichtheyreside.

• Be at least 16 years of age or a highschooljuniorwithaminimum2.5GPA.

• Meet prerequisites for the courseincludingplacementtestsorproficiencyscoresformathandwriting

• Have successfully completed therequired high school classes at yourgradelevel(e.g.juniorclasses)andbeontrackforhighschoolgraduation

• Meet same admission requirements ason-campus students, except forcompletionofahighschooldiplomaorGED

• Haveapprovalsignaturesofaparentorguardian, high school official, anddesignatedcollegeofficial

DefinitionsofTerms_______________

DualEnrollment.Thebroadtermforvarioustypes of opportunities for high schoolstudent to take college course work whiletheyareenrolledinhighschool.

DualCredit.Awardsbothhighschoolcreditandcollegecreditforacollegecoursetakenby the high school student. Dual creditcourses may be taught on the collegecampus,online,orasahybrid.

ConcurrentCredit.Adualcreditcoursethatis specifically taught by an approved,qualified high school instructor and taughtwithintheschoolschedule.

Early College. Awards college credit for acollege course taken by the high schoolstudent.Nohighschoolcreditisearned.

Credit Limit. Amount of dual enrollmentcredits a high school student may takeduringasemester.

WhatClassesatSKCCanbetakenfordualenrollment?

SKCpostsalistofcourseswhichmaybetakenfor dual enrollment on its Dual EnrollmentWebsite.

SKC operates on a quarter (10-week)academic calendar. Dual enrollment courseoptions are available on the SKC DualEnrollment webpage when registrationopens,approximatelythefifthweekofeachquarter. The last day to enroll as a dualenrollment student is on the SKC DualEnrollmentWebsite.

AmericanIndianstudentscanapplyfortheSalish Kootenai College American IndianScholarship. The application form isavailableonthedualenrollmentwebsite.

WillDualEnrollmentCoursesatSKCtransfertootherinstitutions?

The college receiving the transferredcourses is always responsible forevaluating a students’ transcript anddeciding whether or not to accept thetransfer course. SKC hasworkedwith theMontana University System to assuretransferability of courses. However,students planning to transfer to anothercollege may want to call the transferadvisororadmissionsofficeatthereceivinginstitution.

OnceYouareEnrolled:____________After you send in your Admission Form andRegistrationForm,itmaytake1-3daysforSKCtoprocessyourinformation.After3days,youshoulddothefollowing:• Many classes at SKC have an online

component. SKC uses Schoology for onlinecoursedelivery.ToaccessSchoologyyouwillneedaSKCstudentemailaccount.Whenyouregisterforaclass,anemailaccountandJICSeCampusaccountwillbecreated foryou. Ifyou need any on campus services such asprinting,youwillneedaSKCStudentIDwhichyoucangetatSKCITServiceslocatedintheA. It is important to understand that you arebeginninganewrecordofacademichistorythat will follow you as you continue yourcollege career, because your grades forthese college courses will appear on acollegetranscript.

Pooracademichistorycanadverselyaffectthefollowing:

• yourabilitytogainadmissionsintopost-secondaryinstitutions

• yourabilitytobeawardedfinancialaidand/orscholarships

• acceptanceintothedegreeprogramofyourchoice

• eligibilityforparticipationinathleticsandcampusactivities(NAIA,NCAA,NIRA,AssociatedStudents,etc.)

College coursework is academically rigorous.Content is not altered to accommodate highschool students. Students in dual-enrollmentcoursesshouldexpecttoparticipate incollege-level content and discussions appropriate foradultlearners.

Everycollegeclasshasacoursesyllabuswhichisprovidedonthefirstdayofclass. Thesyllabuscontainsveryimportantinformationabouthowtheclassisgraded,attendanceandparticipationrequirements, and methods of contacting thecourseinstructor.Itisadvisabletokeepacopyofallcoursesyllabiforyourrecords.Ifyouplanto transfer to another college, the receivinginstitutionmayaskforcopiesofcoursesyllabi.

ConfidentialityofDualEnrolledStudentRecords

AccordingtotheU.S.DepartmentofEducation,the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act(FERPA)isafederallawthataffordsparentstherighttohaveaccesstotheirchildren'seducationrecords, the right to seek to have the recordsamended, and the right to have some controlover the disclosure of personally identifiableinformationfromtheeducationrecords.

Whena student turns18yearsoldorentersapostsecondary institutionatanyage,therightsunder FERPA transfer from the parents to thestudent. This means that the parent(s) orguardian(s)maynotbegiveninformationaboutadualenrollmentstudent’sprogressincourses,grades,etc.,unlessthestudentsignsawaiver.

ThereareseveralexceptionstoFERPA’sgeneralprior consent rule. One exception is thedisclosure of “directory information.” Thefollowing is considered “directory information”at SKCandmay, in accordancewith FERPA,bedisclosedatthediscretionofthecollege:

• Name• Dates of attendance• Academic major or program of study• Number of credits for current enrollment

period• Class standing (Freshman, Sophomore,

etc.)• Degrees, certificates, certifications, or

endorsements awarded• Honors awarded and the GPA of students

recognized for honors• Date(s) of completion• Participation in college-recognized sports• Student’s college email address
