T hank you so much for taking the time to read this brief introduction

to our Winter edition of the Recreation Connection for Greeley and our regional friends and neighbors. I hope you take a moment to find that special program or service within our opportunities and offerings!

If you don’t see something in here that you would like to see, drop us a line or let any of our staff know at any facility. The success of our offerings is up to you and we would love to know what it is you like (or don’t like) about us! Or…consider applying for a vacancy on any number of our citizen advisory boards. Vacancies are announced regularly at www.greeleygov.com .

This is a very special time of the year for us all and I encourage you to explore some of the special events we have forthcoming this season. Plan to attend the Festival of Trees at the Union Colony Civic Center Nov 23-Dec 1 (see page 15) — a very wonderful annual treat! Or take in one of our many shows, including special children’s performances, at the UCCC this season or get some tickets as gifts for friends and family (go to www.UCSTARS.com for current show information).

And please don’t forget to stay active this winter yourself! Come skating, rock climbing, swimming, play some basketball and racquetball or use our fitness facilities and classes — we’d love to see you!

Lastly (but certainly not least), thank you to all of our volunteers in the Culture, Parks and Recreation Department who provide so many services and opportunities for everyone in our community. From our many youth coaches to our hosts and re-enactors at Centennial Village to our myriad of senior volunteers my words cannot express enough appreciation for what you do. Thank you.

Have a wonderful winter and enjoy all that Greeley has to offer.

Cheers!

WOODbRIAR PARkHave you visited Woodbriar Park? Do you even know where it is? Unless you live in the Woodbriar neighborhood, you may not be familiar with this park! Located just north of Sanborn Park and off the main thoroughfare, you will find 3 acres of a quiet neighborhood park. Built in 1973, this park will be celebrating its 40th anniversary as a public park! On a visit you will find open space for a game of soccer or football, shelter, restrooms, picnic tables and grills. The shelter at Woodbriar is available for rental through the FunPlex or Recreation Center. With a shellter capacity of 30, this park would make a great location for your next birthday or graduation party. So grab your skateboard, hop on your bicycle, or just strap on some tennis shoes for a visit to 19th St and 30th Avenue.

AMAZING ATHLETESCONTRACTEDOur Amazing Athletes programs are taught by trained coaches who use age-appropriate equipment to instruct children in the fundamentals and mechanics of nine different sports: soccer, volleyball, football basketball, tennis, golf, lacrosse, hockey and baseball. At the core of each of our classes are developmental sports lessons with a focus on achieving motor development goals and milestones. Incorporated in the class are activities designed to improve hand-eye coordination, flexibility, muscle tone, balance, speed & agility. We work hard to ensure our classes allow every child to build skills at their own pace in a non-competitive, learning-based environment that emphasizes patience, teamwork and self-confidence.
