WORDS OF WISDOM Editorial: Living with Gratitude, Moment by Moment
Barry Kapp, Master Medicinal Aromatherapist and Founder of Wisdom of the Earth, has studied aromatherapy internationally, and shares his experiences, explorations, feelings and knowings via seminars, his books, and through his own medicinal aromatherapy practice. While he has had many human mentors, he believes that his Tree, Plant & Animal friends have influenced him even more. Barry was introduced to the wonders of the Natural World by his parents, and his passion is still the same today. Formerly a dairy farmer, Barry grew his own crops and used herbs to treat his animals; they, in turn, taught him many truths about all beings’ true connection to Mother Earth.

Here we are, one more year in the changing times of Gaia raising Her level of consciousness. I feel She is doing great! I also feel humans are also awakening in the 100’s of millions. Are many still sleeping? You can count on it! But that is not where our attention should focus. Continue to transmute fear energy into love energy, and we will all be doing our part, for sure.
2015 saw the completion of the long awaited Essence Warehouse & Reception room at Wisdom of the Earth. The Reception room turned out beautifully, and we invite you to come and visit us! This space allows for our office staff to have a private workspace, out of the fray of the many conversations and bursts of laughter when visitors come. WOTE is getting busier, and for some of you who are just starting to get acquainted with us, we may seem small but actually we have a very multi-‐faceted business happening which demands huge amounts of attention to detail on all levels of WOTE’s functioning.
Our farmers are moving ahead, despite many weather changes world wide and political upheavals at every turn. One simple example recently is one of our farmers in Egypt. Since the destruction of the Russian Airline a few weeks back, there is only one Airline willing to fly in and out of their area. The nightmare to navigate a shipment via just one airline is painstakingly hard, but the farmer keeps making headway. This is just one example of WOTE’s continued commitment, along with our farmers, to provide you with single pure Essences. Nobody ever told us this would be easy, folks. And it is not.
In 2015 WOTE added several new single pure Essences to our portfolio -‐-‐ Moena, Molle and Muna. These three alone provide an expanding spectrum for those suffering from cold chi, cold bones, arthritic issues and hormonal balancing.
As we close out this year, may we step up and awaken in every area that we choose. At this time may gratitude be our moment by moment companion. May patience, truth and trust be our allies, as Mother Earth moves towards even higher vibrations of consciousness. May Divine Love shine forth from our very BEing.
WOTE’s continual commitment to be there for those who choose to return to Gaia for their spiritual, emotional & physical facilitation for healing is ongoing and growing. If you are reading this, then there is a 98% chance that you are on our website. May I invite you to get educated with our over 70 hours of free audio and some video. Blessings for 2016 & stay close to Gaia. Other than your heart, She is your greatest champion for knowledge, wisdom, joy, peace and protection. Love, Barry

Holy Basil, Ocimum basilicum sanctum, also known as Tulsi in India, is revered as a sacred plant infused with healing powers in the Hindu religious tradition. It is customary in India to honor it two times a day, water it and light lamps near it, once in the morning and once in the evening. Keeping in mind the ultra-‐disinfectant and germicidal properties of this legendary herb, these customs were likely devised to bring people into daily contact with this plant, so that they might be kept safe from day-‐to-‐day infections.
My personal experience of Holy Basil confirms the support of this essence. Last year, my brother was put in hospice and given only two weeks to live. This was in Indiana and I live in California. Self-‐employed and also responsible for the management of an apartment building, it was challenging

to be with my brother during previous health emergencies, and now during what became a five month process. But he was my last living immediate family, and I needed to support him through this major transition.
Taking the Aromatherapy class after his passing was just what my Soul needed. Holy Basil was one of the essences I purchased, and, looking back, I think that the Holy Basil chose me, since it was just what I needed. I found myself using it every day, and especially before bed. I was so overwhelmed, the most important thing it did for me was to give me courage and confidence to make a lot of decisions and reduce my mental fatigue. It gave me peace of mind in the midst of pain.
Holy Basil gave me the dignity and courage to eulogize my brother in a
Holy Basil… The Queen of Herbs
In the Himalayas, rhododendron flowers bloom red at lower altitudes. As elevation increases, saturation of color drops from her petals, turning red to pink and fading into white. It is beautiful display of hers, releasing the layers of color and bringing forth as much light as she can as she moves up the mountains. I believe she is illustrating how listening to our emotions, and really feeling them, lifts our thinking mind to reveal the light within us. With her, we rise from the deep 3D awareness that red symbolizes. We fill with love and light as we move into pink, a color connected to self-‐acceptance and unconditional love. In this pink, we accept that we feel, what it is that we feel, without judgment. We then move into white, a cleansing purity, which only the most expanded beings can reach. This clarity is what connects us to our intuition and where we can catch the divine communication.
Not only is the color a perfect match for this symbolism, but the height is also. The higher up the mountain, the more expanded view, which opens us to new perspectives. These new perspectives allow us to drop judgments and the habit of reaction that keeps us tethered to the material world instead of thoughtful action.
After working with her on and off for a few weeks, my discomfort with strong emotion had dropped and the distraction significantly lessened. I found myself considering wider and wider views on various subjects and playing more and more with spiritual meanings for what is often glossed over as commonplace happenings. ~Excerpted from Joanna B’s beautiful and thought-‐provoking Level 1 paper.

way that provided healing for a multitude of people present. I know it helped energize me to do the 40 days of prayers for my brother after his transition. On the 39th day, my brother came to me early in the morning and told me that he was ok, that he loved his wife, and that he sometimes comes to holds her hand.
My sister-‐in-‐law, who was having a really rough time, called me a few weeks later, and I shared this experience with her. She then told me that she had been hospitalized because of the anxiety pills prescribed for her, and told them that my brother was there, holding her hand. The doctors said that she had taken too many anxiety pills. I was able to give her validation and peace, and she was able to give me the same. ~Excerpted from Sondra Y’s touching Level 1 paper.

You Say Diva, I Say Deva…
I (Barry) have been asked so many times why I call the essences Devas. There is a simple explanation as to why I use Deva as I do. Below find my reasoning and understanding.
*Devi represents a female Goddess in Sanskrit.
*Deva represent a male Goddess in Sanskrit.
However, the origin says something broader…and explains why I say Deva as the first real expression of any Plant or Tree, or the single pure Essence thereof.
Etymology
Bas-‐relief of a devi in Angkor Wat, Cambodia
Deva is a Sanskrit word found in Vedic literature of the 2nd millennium BCE. The Monier Williams Sanskrit dictionary translates it as "heavenly, divine, terrestrial things of high excellence, exalted, shining ones" The concept also is used to refer to deity or god.
Rose…Sent by the Gardeners of Paradise
Having committed to use Rose every day for 30 days, I found my first treatment was a bit floral for me, yet I believe in the medicinal essences and my intuition. I was committed to this experiment. After 30 days, I feel amazing. I love the aroma of Rose. She is tender and gentle. She never pushes me. I feel supported and encouraged by her. I have noticed that I am more patient with my husband. I am able to access more tenderness and loving. I have slowed down and feel gentleness within me. I am unsure of any changes to my physical diagnosis (of osteoporosis and underactive thyroid), yet I feel a strong need to reduce the intake of my medications and discussed this with my physicians.
Rose is absolutely working with me on a soul level. My peace and faith are growing. I hear the wind more often. I dialogue with all the trees and flowers, and know they are communicating. I am learning to listen to them and clear my mental chatter. Rose is shifting me spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically in a soft, gentle caress similar to a mother encouraging her young. I look forward to greeting her every morning as I drop her on my heart and sometimes the top of my spine.
Working with Rose, I am noticing a shift. I am eternally grateful to her and Wisdom of the Earth for guiding me to be more loving and happy.

It has been years since I shared about a Devi/Deva that has savored a true love affair with humans. The Basil family, with Her deep green, delicately shaped leaves, offers an amazing scope of benefits spiritually, emotionally and physically.
Basil has been loved by many humans, as I mention above, yet there are always those cultural histories that reveal an aversion to a certain plant during one period of time, and then it is loved in another period of time. Basil has been highly revered by some and denigrated by others. Such is the truth about all 3D stories. Howbeit, the Plant & Tree Kingdom is all about Love, so such duality does not affect them.
I remember years ago, being in Provence, walking down rows of a 20 hectare field of Basil Sweet, totally immersed in the fragrance of such serenity. Ahhh, it was blissful to say the least. All pure single Essences of Basil delight my olfactories, soothing my body, soul and spirit with calmness, contentment and peace.
Basil has been around for eons for sure. Some sources say 4,000 years, but anyone walking with Her and the Plant & Tree Kingdom, knows better than that. It is more like in the millions of years, folks.
A brief synopsis of the 4 varieties that WOTE carries is:
BASIL EXOTIC -‐ CHAVICOL (Egypt)
This strong variety is known for its higher content of methyl chavicol that has strong anti cancer/anti convulsant, anesthetic, myorelaxant, fungicidal & liver regeneration properties. All Basils have chavicol, but in this variety it is more prominent. Emotionally, She is very masculine in energy. She is renowned for helping humans balance the masculine energy, retrieve past lives that were masculine for healing, She works with the left-‐ brain areas of life.
Spiritually She addresses the energetic inflammation/rebalancing/healing required when a human decides to remember who they truly are…a Magnificent Sovereign BEing of Divine Love. The muscles, the brain, blood circulation and digestion are all aided by Her. Remember, for every physical dis-‐ease, there is an emotional and spiritual counterpart to be addressed.
BASIL HOLY -‐ SANCTUM (India) This famous Indian variety is much softer than any of the other 3 that WOTE carries. Known as Tulsi, (the incomparable one), in Indian/Ayurvedic/Sanskrit medicine, She is most gentle in Her approach, yet she has the same basic properties, just rearranged in a magical way as are all varieties of all Plants & Trees, Humans, etc. All Basils address inflammation on every level of being. The flu is also famously addressed with all Basils, including Basil Holy. Emotionally, Basil Holy is very feminine. She therefore addresses the energetic feminine aspects of a human being. She also is known for retrieving past lives that were feminine for healing. She works with the right brain areas of life. Spiritually, She addresses the energetic congestion in our spiritual bodies, helping to clear the debris so that we can choose more cosmic and higher consciousness clarity. BASIL SWEET (India)
Basil sweet is another Indian variety that is stronger, more masculine in Her approach, just like Basil exotic. When choosing these 4 varieties for the WOTE family, I noticed the interesting combo of a f/m sub species from India and the same from Egypt. This has proven to be a strong (continued)

BASIL TRUE -‐ Linalool Type (Egypt)
Our last deva is called True Basil from a local common name derivative ages ago. No one knows why or how, but this is the human inclination to label according to their perspective at any given time, completely leaving other humans outside that small enclave of folks, bereft of why.
Emotionally, She is feminine as is Basil Holy. She works with heart rhythm disturbances physically; therefore the emotional heart rhythms can also be aided in harmonizing the connection between BEing grounded here on Gaia and, at the same time, remaining connected to our higher dimensional self.
Spiritually She excites us to remember our True nature as to our origin from the stars, our oneness with the collective, our home with Source/Creator/IAM. Perhaps that is the reason, long ago, the nickname of True came into BEing. That long ago enclave of humans just simply knew beyond any doubt that Basil was there for them to nurture all manner of truth seeking within each and every one. That would be enough, would it not?
Love you dear Basil -‐-‐ each one of your family. Barry

Emotionally, She is masculine (refer back to Basil Exotic). The anti depressant gifts Basils have are not absent in Basil Sweet, for sure. Depression is rampant at these times, dear ones, and the Basil family should find a place in our emotional medicine chest. Many are also experiencing emotion-‐based digestion problems due to all the fluctuating energy changes; Basil Sweet, as all Basils, are here to help continuously.
Spiritually, Basil Sweet helps us return to our Heart Minds when we are ready, allowing our cerebral mind to follow the intention of our Heart mind instead of the other way around.

Here at WOTE we have been teaching about the authenticity that is created within you when you use single, pure essential oils. We know for a fact that the essences can move our issues to the forefront, to be released, so that you can become your truest, most beautiful self.
I was listening to Bashar the other day and he confirmed for me the reason why being authentic is so powerful. He says, “Allowing a deeper understanding of your authenticity creates an extraordinary life”. You see, being authentic creates a true alignment with your higher self and your own personal frequency. Life emanates at the exact frequency that you are vibrating at. Like attracts like! So the higher the frequency, the more of an extraordinary life you can manifest.
Don’t hold back from being your authentic self. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain, even if your voice shakes and you cry when speaking what is in your heart. Bashar says “Remember that everything that happens to your life is a gift and if you treat it that way you’ll spend the rest of your life unwrapping presents”. I do believe this is true, but only when you step into your true self. This doesn’t mean that uncomfortable things won’t happen in your world. After all, we are still in this dualistic experience, but if you vibrate in your genuine nature and if you treat all situations positively-‐-‐ as a gift-‐-‐ you will be able to have a positive outcome...one that has been created just for you.
So as you get to know and understand yourself better, by using the essences and diving in, facing all the disenfranchised parts of yourself, your vibration and authenticity will rise and you will find that even in the most dire circumstances, there will be a positive outcome. Don’t invalidate your experiences. Accept them. Say “I prefer that this experience serve me in some way”.
Get in the habit of using the essences and journey to the center of your authentic self without apologies for who you are. The gift is waiting for you.
Here’s to living an extraordinary life! Cynthia

In Closing…Being the Shining Ones
Issue 60 of this newsletter. The “Big 60”. How the world has changed over the 15 or so years we produced those issues…and yet, not. How Wisdom of the Earth has changed in those 15 or so years…and yet, not. How I have changed in those 15 or so years…and yet, not. This milestone really got me thinking about the things that change and the things that stay the same…and why. About how I am basically the same person I was 15 years ago, and that the changes that have occurred are really adaptions, evolutions, enhancements, “variations on a theme” so to speak, not a total 180 degree change. And I realized that this is because I am very clear on what I value, clear on my priorities, I have a clear spiritual “rudder”, and that I love and accept myself. Somebody on Face Book recently posted a Gary Zukav quote, “You cannot find your soul with your mind, you must use your heart.” I half-jokingly replied: “All three are present and accounted for. My mind knows its place!” And that is true. Early in my life, I valued my mind greatly, as I knew it represented my “ticket out” of my depressing, painful childhood because intellect was prized in our Western culture. But even then, I equally valued my very deep emotions and feelings, and knew that they were every bit as important as my mind. I never felt that they should be suppressed or ignored, even if others advised me to do so.
In a recent issue, Barry discussed our Vision, Mission and Contract statement that is on the WOTE website. When he and I first started the business those many years ago, we sat down and focused on what was really important to us, the kind of business we wanted to create. We created a list of values that guided our early efforts, among them, adherence to our guidance from the plants and trees (e.g., purity, no blending, no dilution), being authentic, education, honoring relationships, integrity and communication. Over 15 years later, they are as important and as alive in our planning and day-to-day decision-making as they were then.
The point I am making in these reflections is that, when you have a strong and clear understanding of who you are and what you want to create in this life, that is at the heart of everything that you do. Everything else becomes fine-tuning, as you remain true to your self and act from that truth. As I was putting this issue together, the visuals and the sense that kept coming to me was about “shining”…Barry mentioned Divine Love shining forth from our very BEing…the etymology of Deva includes “shining ones”. I know in my heart that, when we deeply connect with Mother Earth through the beauty and power of the essences, we truly become like the “shining ones.” We burn with the inner fire of our own clarity, our own knowing, our own passion.
Interestingly, my private practice in Santa Fe is called Shining Sun Aromatherapy, so named because the road we live on is called Shining Sun. When I bought the house, I was so delighted with the name…it is so important to me to live where the surroundings, the house itself, and even the street, appeal to my senses. I was drawn to imagery of “shining” even then, and it has taken shape and matured over time to represent the inner light of our clarity and authenticity that guides us and also draws others to us. Shine on! Love, Audre
