    Works4Me

Do you want to be more independent?

Many Year 11 students are nervous about getting the GCSE grades they want or need, many are worried what college

will be like for them, what their friends are doing and when they will see them etc. There is no doubt that this summer

is a strange period of time when you arent a school student anymore but you arent out there being an independent

person yet either. We want to make this summer a bit easier for you, we want to help you to take care of yourself and

get ready for the next chapter of your life!

  • In Suffolk, Youth Unemployment has continued to increase. At the end of 2012

around 3,800 16-24 year olds were claiming job seekers allowance. Suffolk levels of

NEET (not in education, employment or training) are also above regional and

    national averages.

There is a need to equip young people with transitional skills before they leave

mandatory education, but a particular focus is needed on those young people who,

through multiple barriers, are most at risk of falling into the NEET group.

The Works4me Programme is a pilot programme funded by Suffolk County Council

and delivered by the Keystone Development Trust. Our Works4Me sessions aim to

provide Year 11 students with support to gain employment with training, appren-

    ticeships or further education.

The Work Club Leader works for Keystone Development Trust based in

Thetford and has a recent, enhanced CRB/DBS check and this has been provided to

both Suffolk County Council and the schools in which Works4Me is delivered.

The Work Club Leader is able to provide information on the range of college,

employment and apprenticeship options available and to offer support on how to

proceed. It is not the intention of the Work Club Leader to give advice and any

decision on the path you choose is your own responsibility.

It may be daunting leaving school and having to look at all the options available to you in September. Works4Me sessions provide

an opportunity to get help with researching, discussing and taking the next step to achieving your career goals. Have a look at

the table below and we can start to plot your journey after secondary school.

  • Why should I attend Works4Me in the holidays?

Ok, you want (and need) to unwind after your exams, and it is fair to say that you deserve to! 2 weeks into the summer

holidays you start to think about September, the next chapter of your life is fast approaching and being prepared for it will make

the transition easier, but where do you go for help? School has finished, college or your training provider dont really know you

yet, who can you contact? We are realistic about the need to balance your holiday down-time with the necessity to get a positive

destination sorted for September, so the Works4Me Summer Outreach programme involves the following

Weekly meetings with your work club leader in a venue local to you

Guest speakers from different industries and professions that interest you

Tailored support with finding work experience and/or part-time jobs

Group discussions about the transition to Post-16 and ways to manage it

Opportunities to complete your CV, personal statement and applications

Sessions aimed at building confidence, managing conflict and developing transferable skills

Time to catch up with familiar faces and to meet new people as well

And, you get to wear your own clothes and attend as many sessions as you want to. If you cant stay for the whole session, thats

ok. If you cant make every session, thats ok. If you drop-in with a friend or family member, thats ok. Remember, the Works4Me

sessions are designed to support you, not to make you more stressed or anxious. If you arent sure about the details, look at the

table below and contact your work club leader if you need more information.
