Fifth Framework Program
Progress Meeting - Trondheim - June 20/21th 2002
WP7: Objectives
Supplying a simulation tool integrating the results of thematic workpackages 1 to 6
Model integration Simulator developmentand Validation
Progress Meeting - Trondheim - June 20/21th 2002
Models integration
The structure of the simulator has to cope with: the matter characteristics necessary for models the matter characteristics which are not used in the models
The interface must bring the models to life: ask the good questions in a language adapted
and give easy to use results
Seek consistency between phase models for the different treatment ways.
Progress Meeting - Trondheim - June 20/21th 2002
Work description: the different tasks
Task 1: Design of the simulator structure
Task 2: Model implementation for each channel
Task 3: Check for consistency both on available experimental and on theoretical data
Task 4: Definition of parameter estimation methods
Task 5: Description of sampling and analytical procedure
Task 6: Development of methods for parameter adjustment
Task 7: Consolidation between channels
Progress Meeting - Trondheim - June 20/21th 2002
WP7 Deliverables
Documented models for predicting material and energy
balance for all channels.
Documented models and databases for economic balance
calculation.
Software allowing the simulation of all possible
organisation of solid waste management.
Methodology, use and limits of the software;
Report generation options for different types of end-user.

Task 2
Progress Meeting - Trondheim - June 20/21th 2002
Check for consistency...
Depending of the other workpackages results: Models specifications Models parameters
Real starting with the case studies (WP9): Available data are known for the three cities. They will be supplemented by default values if needed (waste matrix).
...both on available experimental and on theoretical data
Task 3
Progress Meeting - Trondheim - June 20/21th 2002
3 tasks gathered in only one
Tasks 4 to 6
Aim:To define methods to use the models:
- procedures for parameters estimation
- set the limits of parameters values
- give an idea on the quality of model’s predictions according
to the input data
Deliverables D25 and D26
Progress Meeting - Trondheim - June 20/21th 2002
Main difficulty
Integration = light on water:
transfer from WP 1 to 6
a part may be reflected
a part may be absorbed
Progress Meeting - Trondheim - June 20/21th 2002
Conclusion
The structure of the simulator will allow to integrate most of the R&D work,
A preliminary version will be available for the case studies,
WP8 has started to:explain the tool to non-project members, take into account the needs expressed by the steering committee
