“Quality teaching empowering students to maintain improved performance ”
Please check out more detail on these awards inside our school newsletter
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Community Members,
Term Three is shaping up to be a very eventful term! Today Jessa, Brodie and
Monica are representing Wundowie Primary School at the Hills Interschool Science
Challenge 2018 where their knowledge of classification, investigation and design
would be tested. Each school is represented by a team of three students and a
staff member, Mrs Jackson is accompanying our Year 6 students. This years event
is held at Sawyers Valley Primary School. Good luck to them.
SCITECH Excursions:
Our Year 3 to Year 6 students visited SciTech where they had the opportunity to participate in several activities linked to the science outcomes for term 3, Physical Science, Science as a Human Endeavour and Science inquiry skills. Activities included the Generic Exhibit Area, Playing With Light Exhibition Csiro Lab - Little Bits Designers and Power Trip Show. The year 1 and Year 2 students are looking forward to their trip on Friday, 24th August.
Business Plan 2018-2020: The Wundowie Primary School Board has endorsed the
new business plan. It will be uploaded onto the school’s website at https://
www.wundowieps.wa.edu.au/ for parents to access, you may also request a hard
copy from the school office. The school’s vision and values have also been re-
viewed and endorsed.
“Quality teaching empowering students to maintain improved performance”
SCHOOL VALUES:
At Wundowie, we have modified our values so they align with the Department of
Education WA core values:
Learning: Our approach to work is positive, and we understand that all students
can learn;
Excellence: We have high expectations of our students and ourselves;
Equity: We strive to create a workforce that is free from discrimination,
exploitation or abuse. We are mindful of the differing circumstances and needs of
our students, and we are dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for
all and
Care: We treat all individuals with care, and our relationships are
founded on trust, mutual respect and responsibility.
School Student Leaders Assembly: I would like to congratulate our student leaders on a great assembly about saying NO to Bullying! Understanding the difference between conflict and bullying is very important. Everyone experiences conflict from time to time, it is part of normal life. Learning how to deal with it in a healthy way helps kids master the social skills they need. Bullying is NOT part of normal life. Bullying is an abuse of power and has significant consequences. There is absolutely nothing healthy about bullying.
Kind regards
Georgina Wales
Congratulations to Mrs. Joyce on her nomination! Mrs Hilary Joyce was nominated for WA School Services Staff Member of the Year. Hilary is a dedicated,
hardworking school gardener who has made positive and significant changes to our school grounds and school
buildings. Hilary never hesitates to take on any challenge or difficult task; she is a strategic thinker with great problem-
solving abilities and williness to take initiative to rectify any areas of concern. Being a great planner Hilary is always on the
lookout for the best needs of our students and teachers. When Hilary finds a project, she is able to envision the end result
and eliminate concerns before they become problems.
In 2015 Hilary was a very active member of the school carpark committee along with SDERA representatives and teachers.
Wundowie Primary School now has a safe carpark with a ‘kiss and drop’ area, a separate railed pathway for students that is
away from the traffic, and angled parking for staff and visitors.
Our students and staff respect Hilary and her work ethic; she is an excellent role model for us all and another reason we
have so much pride of our school and school grounds.
Congratulations to Mrs. Jackson on her nomination! Mrs Roxanne Jackson was nominated for WA Premier’s Primary School Teacher of the Year. She is an
outstanding teacher who is motivated, highly organised, enthusiastic and passionate about the teaching and
learning of all students. Her ability to develop a positive relationship with the students, genuinely caring about their
welfare is instrumental to the success of student outcomes at Wundowie Primary School. Mrs Jackson creates a positive
relationship between a child and their teacher that is the basis for building trust and which ultimately helps with her
classroom management and instruction.
Working as both a classroom teacher and in school administration, she has a passion for working with young minds,
developing curriculum and researching into best practice and quality teaching for students. In semester 2, 2017
Mrs Jackson implemented Digital Technologies curriculum from year 1 to year 6 as a DOTT provider. Prior to this, she
provided different learning experiences associated with the new curriculum from the end of 2016 and the first half of 2017
to familiarise herself with teaching the content as well as exposing the students to the new curriculum. Mrs Jackson has a
supportive approach to implementing change at a school; she supports our belief that staff and parents need to part of
decision making and just like students we learn at different rates.

needs. In most instances we do not intend to get a child from class unless this has been arranged prior to the appoint-
ment (Northam Primary School only) with a parent or guardian. Please feel free to pop in or phone if you have any queries
or if it is your child’s first visit to meet our staff… we don’t BITE

Wundowie Iron Festival
Date:
Saturday 20th of October 2018
Venues:
Wundowie Community Hall and
Wundowie Oval
Wundowie was the birthplace of WA’s iron ore industry and this unique event
celebrates the heritage of the area. On Saturday 20th of October 2018, Wundowie
Oval comes to life with iron sculptures, paintings and photography, as well as kids
activities, stalls and much more!
The original concept for Wundowie was formed in 1942 following an investigation into the feasibility of establishing an iron and steel industry in WA. The industrial
history of Wundowie was born on April 15, 1948, when the completed Wundowie
Charcoal Iron and Steel mill was opened. The mill was closed in 1981 after 33 years
of operation and Bradken now operate out of the foundry facilities, keeping the link to
Wundowie’s commercial heritage alive.
The core feature of this year’s celebrations is the Iron Beast Competition. The Iron
Beast is an individual or team effort to build a device, predominantly from iron and steel, propelled by the down force of a
20kg weight. A prize of $TBA will be awarded for the longest distance travelled
in 30 seconds.
