Crime VictimThis unfortunate person was attacked with a screwdriver. Believe it or not, doctors removed the weapon - and the patient made a full recovery.

Shine a LightTalk about shining a light in dark places. Here's a guy who stuck a flashlight up his rectum, in a (vain?) attempt at sexual gratification. It's not uncommon for doctors to encounter patients who have done similar stunts, inserting vibrators, shot glasses, lighters, and, yes, flashlights. Some, too embarrassed to explain that they can't retrieve the lost item, come in to the ER complaining only of abdominal pain. But this one hurt plenty.

Ouch!Watch those nail guns. This worker didn't, and he wound up shooting a nail into his hand. Doctors removed it, and he was fine.

Key-HoleTalk about losing your keys. This key belongs to man who inserted it into his rectum for who-knows-why. People who seek medical attention to remove such "lost" items often come up with flimsy excuses in a vain attempt to convince doctors they aren't to blame. Doctors say they hear things like, "I must have sat on it" or "my girlfriend got carried away." Convinced?

Recycling Gone AwryEmpty plastic bottles generally wind up in the trash. This one was recycled - into the rectum of a guy who was seeking sexual stimulation. It came out, and he was fine. No word on whether he collected the five cents.

No Running with Sharp Objects! This scary-looking image shows what can happen when a toddler runs with a pen in his mouth. When he fell, the pen went through the inside of his upper lip - and kept going until it had reached almost to the eye socket. But he was lucky - it came out and he was fine.

Pain in the Butt do you have a lightLuckily for this guy, there's nothing flammable in the rectum. This lighter - inserted in a misguided grab for sexual pleasure - came out without incident. No injury - only embarrassment.

Blow - Don't Suck!To a boy, playing with a blowgun sounds like great fun. Only this boy sucked when he should have blown - and inhaled a corsage pin into his windpipe. Luckily, doctors were able to retrieve it without too much trouble - and the boy went home none the worse. No word on what mom said.

How'd That Get in There?Things can get pretty lonely for some people - lonely enough to do almost anything for sexual gratification, including stuffing objects into the rectum. In this x-ray, you can see the outline of a drinking glass - stuffed there by a man with a habit of putting objects into his rectum. Fortunately, with the help of anesthesia and a doctor's gloved hand, such objects usually come out pretty easily. Cheers.

Mom Was HystericalMom was hysterical when her young son came home with a car's radio antenna protruding from his chest. Seems he had been playing in a tree when he fell, landed on a junk heap, and took the antenna in the butt. The antenna went clean through his body and out his chest. Amazingly, no major organs were injured. Once doctors removed the antenna, the boy made a full recovery.

Not-So-Routine MammogramThis bullet, lodged in a woman's left breast, was discovered during a routine mammogram years after she had been shot. It didn't seem to pose any threat to her health, so doctors left it in place. She told doctors that the man who shot her was dead.

Heroin Smuggler - BustedSome drug "mules" swallow drug-filled condoms or balloons before passing through customs, intending to collect the drugs once they've been passed. But it's risky business. If even one of the condoms ruptures while still inside the body, the result can be a gigantic overdose - possibly fatal.

Some Nuts Aren't for EatingThis is what happened when a poorly supervised mental patient got hold of some nuts - the kind that screw onto bolts. At the point the x-ray was taken, the nuts were partway through the small intestine. They passed without incident. No harm done. Still a bit nutty.

Swallowed Razor BladeSwallowing a box cutter blade sounds like something only a crazy person would do. In fact, the abdomen in this x-ray belonged to a mentally unstable man. "Swallowing objects is very common in mental institutions," says Dr. Tim B. Hunter, professor of radiology at the University of Arizona and a collector of unusual X-ray images. But the blade passed without harm. Once they reach the large intestine, says Dr. Hunter, swallowed foreign bodies often pass without harm.

Foot PainThis is what can happen when you step on a pen. Doctors frequently x-ray such injuries to make sure there is no damage to the bone. The soft tissue heals quickly with minimal treatment.

Who Put Away the Groceries? Here's a guy who found a new use for groceries - sticking a can of condensed milk in his rectum. Supper, you say? Maybe we should eat out tonight.

ScrewedHere's a worker who stepped in the wrong place - and got screwed. Luckily, there was no lasting damage.

Bad MannersFlatware is for eating - not swallowing. Unfortunately, this mental patient didn't make the distinction - and wound up with a knife lodged in his esophagus. It had to be surgically removed.
