PE lessons twice a week.Spring – Football specialist teaching.Summer – Dance specialist teaching.
Topics
• Half-termly topics are chosen
with the children to stimulate their interest.
• Topics will drive the learning and objectives set will match the new curriculum subjects.
• We shall focus on active learning opportunities and outdoor learning will be prominent throughout the day, whatever the weather.
Assessment
• Staff assess every day – e.g. observations, set tasks and feedback by adults.
• Targets are set per half term in Phonics, Reading, Writing and Maths and then monitored. They will be shared with you at Parents Evening in October and February.
• Children requiring additional support will be placed on the school’s Intervention Register and an Individual Education Plan (IEP) is devised.
• Withdrawal from class with Learning Support Assistant (LSA) or Inclusion Manager
• External agency support - e.g. Health, SALT, OT, CAMHS, EP, Parent Partnership, EMTAS
Y1 Phonics Screening
• Children will do a Phonic test in June. It consists of real words and pseudo (made-up) words.
• It is 1:1 with their teacher for 10 minutes. It is a fun activity.
• Parents are informed of the test outcome in the children’s end of year annual report.
Expectations of Progress• Speaking & Listening, Reading, Writing and Maths are assessed in
levels.

• It is expected that the children leave Y1 achieving the average Level 1A.
• Children achieving level 2C are working above average for their age.
• Children achieving levels below 1A are working below average.
• Children should make at least 2 sub levels per academic year. Your child will receive a report at the end of the year.
Spellings/reading
Practice makes perfection!
• Practice spellings every morning for their test on Friday.
• Read with by Class teacher and LSA.
Homework
• Daily reading – please record in the Home-School Reading Book and practise key words
• Weekly spellings – Monday
• Literacy per week – e.g. punctuation
• Maths per week – e.g. adding/subtraction/topic
• Topic - e.g. research
Attendance
• Holiday Leave of Absence during Y1 will be unauthorised per Government regulations.
• The more your child attends school, the more progress they will make!!
