Principal’s News Dear Parents and Carers, What a huge morning we had at Yanco Public School on Saturday at our garden working bee. So much was achieved by our dedicated and very hard-working parents and carers. Thank you to Mark and Josie Jagers, Nyree Dunn, Scott and Danni Griffiths, Mike Maltman, Kai Hammond, Chris Capstick, Jason and Sharon Bourke, Heidi Heath, Dennis Sloan, Joe Mimmo, Mark Powter and to Helen Hopewell for the cupcakes. The entrance to the school looks fantastic with agapanthas about to flower and some new ground covering plants to brighten up the area with colour. A big thank you also to Darrel Garth for supplying his tractor and moving loads of bark chips for us and to McMahons for emptying the bin for us and placing a second bin on the school grounds. The assistance with transport of garden rubbish on trailers, utes and trucks was also much appreciated!
Ham Raffles – Yanco Lions Club/Yanco P and C This year the Yanco Lions Club Ham Raffles will take place at McCaughey Park at 6pm on Saturday, November 24th 2018. Yanco Public School students are asked to attend and perform at the event. Yanco P and C will host their $2.00 carnival selling all the goodies that were available at the Splash Pad opening recently. There will be fairy floss, popcorn, decorated donuts and slushies. Please come along and support the Yanco Lions Club and Yanco Public School. Year Six Dinner Please note that the date of the Year 6 Dinner has changed to Tuesday, December 18th 2018. $5.00 Canteen Meal Deal Thank you to Helen Hopewell for today’s $5.00 Canteen Meal Deal. It was thoroughly enjoyed by the students. We appreciate your time and effort today. Three class groups in 2019 Due to the increased number of enrolments we currently have in Kindergarten 2018 and our expected enrolments for Kindergarten 2019 we will commence the school year with three class groups. Our class groups will be structured as follows: • K.1 class group • Stage 1/ 2 which will include Year 2 and some Year 3
and Year 4 students • Stage 2/3 including some Year 3 and some Year 4
students and all Year 5 and Year 6 students
Woolworths Cricket/Lunch Time Sport Tomorrow students will participate in their final session of Woolworths Cricket. It has been a great program for our K-6 students and they have thoroughly enjoyed the activities and learning new skills. It has been great to see many of our student participating in lunch time softball, soccer and netball building fitness, team work and skills. Thank you boys and girls for your participation and enthusiasm. School Improvements Commencing today our shed area next to the school canteen will receive a facelift. The roller door will be replaced with a single wider opening door, internal walls finished with gyprock, new flooring, windows replaced and interior painting. The work will allow us to make better use of the space as a learning and storage area. Little Learners Picnic Thank you to everyone who attended our Little Learners picnic last Friday. It is always a lovely way to finish off the school year for our younger students. We wish you all a nice break from school until Kindergarten students commence in Week 1 term 1 and Little Learners commences in Week 5 of Term 1. Lost Property There is a large amount of lost property at the school. If your child is missing anything the items are located in a tub next to the school bubblers. No Hat No Play All students are required to wear their school hat in the playground this term. Students may wear Riverina caps in the playground before school only, no other cap is to be worn at school as they do not offer enough protection. Students who do not have their school hat will not be able to participate in sport events and play on the oval or basketball court area at recess and lunch.
Student Report Cards Semester Two Student report cards will be sent home on Wednesday, December 12th 2018. Parent teacher interviews are not typically planned after the report cards go home however, if you wish to make arrangements to meet with your child’s teacher please contact the Front Office. School Swimming Program Our 2018 Swim School program will take place in Week 8 and Week 9 of Term 4 for ten days. Please ensure your child has all the items they require for the upcoming two weeks. Please label all their items of clothing. Students must have their own towel, thongs, sunscreen and wear a rashie top with long sleeves where possible. No student will be allowed to participate without a rashie top.
School Uniform The wearing of school uniform builds school pride and a sense of belonging in students. All items of clothing in the school uniform are available from the school office, which is open every day, except Friday. If any families are having difficulty purchasing items of school clothing, please contact the office.

This week in cooking the students were split into two groups. One group had to make their own salad in a little bowl with the variety of salad options on the table. The other group had to draw or write down their favourite fruit and favourite treat food. There was a variety of different salads made some having lots of different ingredients others with less. This was also a great opportunity for students to practice their cutting skills. Coming out in front as the favourite fruit was strawberries followed closely by watermelon. The most popular treat food was hot chips, which I am sure is favourite treat with most families.

Why is it a good idea to create an insect hotel?
My bug hotel is made to protect the bugs so they can’t stay camouflaged. The shelter
helps them to be safe from danger, bigger bugs, stronger bugs and the weather. I like my insect hotel because it keeps the bugs
safe at night time.

Why is it a good idea to create an insect hotel?
It is good to have an insect hotel
because it is safe for the insects because it keeps the insects safe from bigger
insects. It’s also a shelter from rain and thunder. You can use soil, twigs, flowers, bamboo and bits of other things to make
an insect hotel. You can put it in a garden.

Our trip to Altina
We went to Altina and we went on the bus. We saw some horses and it was
fun, the horse that took us around the park was called Lucky. We saw a
giraffe, a deer, crocodiles and possums. We got to feed the goats. We ate some
food at lunch time, it was yummy. On the road we saw a snake and it was
black and we also saw cockatoos. We went in the room to see the animals
that were stuffed. If anybody touched the animals the alarm would go off.
We loved the ride, it was amazing.
