ART & DESIGN
KS4 COURSE EXPECTATIONS [YEAR 11] COURSE STRUCTURE
The GCSE Art & Design courses are structured in 2 units:
Unit 1 PERSONAL PORTFOLIO IN ART & DESIGN = coursework component worth 60%
Unit 2 EXTERNALLY SET ASSIGNMENT = exam project component worth 40%
UNIT 1 PERSONAL PORTFOLIO IN ART & DESIGN
All work from the start of the course to be reviewed, refined, added to and completed by the
start of the ESA (externally Set Assignment). 1ST FEBRUARY
UNIT 2 EXTERNALLY SET ASSIGNMENT
The ESA will be handed out on the 1ST FEBRUARY. Preparation work to be completed by the
10 hours sustained focus exam (used to create the final piece). Once the exam is completed NO
additional work can be added to the Assignment. 10 hour exam in APRIL.
EXHIBITION & MODERATION
The exhibition is the DEADLINE. All coursework to be displayed and your ESA will be returned
to display. Internal and external moderation will occur. JUNE.
Specific dates will be given by your art teacher.

Your child will have a clear project brief with individual tasks and deadlines for unit 1 and 2.
Their teacher will also give them clear guidelines on how to improve their work to gain higher
marks. Pupils will be expected to complete homework and attend art clubs at lunch or after
school. The teachers will keep you updated on their progress and contact you with any
concerns.

DANCE
KS4 COURSE EXPECTATIONS [YEAR 11] COURSE STRUCTURE
The GCSE Dance course is structured in 2 components:
COMPONENT 1 [Performance and choreography]: Total component 60%
COMPONENT 2 [Dance Appreciation]: Total Component 40%
ASSESSED WORK
Performance • Set phrases through a solo performance (approximately one minute in duration) • Duet/trio performance (three minutes in a dance which is a maximum of five minutes in
duration) Choreography
Solo or group choreography – a solo (two to two and a half minutes) or a group dance for two
to five dancers (three to three and a half minutes)
Theoretical Knowledge
• Students will study 6 professional and current dance works
• Written exam: 1 hour 30 minutes

For the award of the GCSE in English Language students must complete all three assessments:

MATHS KS4 COURSE EXPECTATIONS [YEAR 11]
COURSE STRUCTURE
100% examination which comprises of: -three papers which are equally weighted. Paper one
will be non-calculator, paper two and three will be calculator. Pupils will be given one hour and
30 minutes to complete each paper.

KS4 COURSE EXPECTATIONS [YEAR 11] COURSE STRUCTURE
The GCSE Textile course is structured in 2 units:
Unit 1 - Personal Portfolio in Art and Design: Controlled Assessment worth 60%
Unit 2 - Externally Set Assignment in Art and Design: Externally set and internally assessed
worth 40%
CONTROLLED ASSESSMENT DEADLINES
Unit 1 – Controlled Assessment
Started in Year 10. Final Hand in Date: May 2017
KEY EXAM DATES
December 2016 (TBC) – Mock Exam 2 X 5 hour timed practical exams
May 2017 (TBC) – Exam 2 X 5 hour timed practical exams
June 2017 (TBC) – Exhibition in Main Hall
July 6th 2017 – School Fashion Show

their progress overall on the course.
