What is PHYSICS?• Biology is the study of….

living organisms

• Chemistry is the study of….the composition of substances and their properties

and reactions

• Psychology is the study of…mind and behaviour

Physics is the study of …

a wide range of physical phenomena spanning all length scales: from sub-atomic particles of which all ordinary matter is made (particle physics) to the behavior of the material Universe as a whole (cosmology).

Design Criteria– investigation– analysis and evaluation– application– knowledge and understanding.

Page 19: Year 11 Physics Intro Session 2009

new SACE

Assessment Type 1: Investigations Folio For a 10-credit subject, students undertake at

least one practical investigation and at least one issues investigation to include in the folio.

Page 20: Year 11 Physics Intro Session 2009

Assessment Type 2: Skills and Applications Tasks

For a 10-credit subject, students undertake at

least one skills and applications task under the direct supervision of the teacher. The supervised setting (e.g. classroom, laboratory, or field) should be appropriate to the task.

Assessment in the new SACE

What mark did I get?

There is a shift away from marks to evidence based learning. Some work will have marks as well as grades. Some work will only have grades.

Page 23: Year 11 Physics Intro Session 2009

Assessment in the new SACE

How are the grades worked out?

All work will come with a rubric and will contain the criteria being assessed in that piece of work. Each rubric contains the specific features of each criterion, and the level of attainment A-E will be reported for each criterion. In addition a grade will be arrived at from the “on balance” evidence.
