LESSON 1

LESSON GOAL:

I will realize that my weakness is a strength.

LESSON OVERVIEW:

Children will know that God wants all the glory, that is why He likes doing all the work Himself. And they must believe that it is not a liability to be weak, or to be a nobody. The more we acknowledge our weakness and ask for God’s help, the more he will show us His power. God loves to use those who are “nobodies”. Human weakness is therefore a strength. The key to prosperity is to depend God in everyday life. His strength makes us more than conquerors.

MEMORY VERSE

2 Corinthians 12:9

But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.

1 Samuel, Chapter 17

An army of Philistines came to Israel to fight King Saul’s army.

They had a giant soldier called Goliath who wanted to battle with the King Saul’s best soldier.

King Saul’s soldiers were afraid and did not want to

fight the giant.

A young boy called David

was taking food to his brother

who were soldiers.

As he moved closer David could hear the giant’s

challenge

David told King Saul he would fight the giant. David believed that God would help him.

King Saul gave David his armour to wear but it was too big and heavy for

David.

David took off the armour and went for a walk

by a stream. David picked up

five small stones.

When Goliath saw David he laughed, but David did not care.

David was sure God would help him defeat the giant.

David put one of the stones he

had collected in his sling.

Then David ran towards Goliath and let the stone fly.

The stone hit Goliath and he fell to the ground.

The Philistines saw that their hero was dead and they ran away from Israel. God had helped

David slay the giant.

SYNTHESIS

David won because he used the power of the God. Without God’s power he would have been pulverized by Goliath’s power.

Kids let us remember that we must be like David, we must acknowledge our weakness and call upon the Lord. Christ power will swiftly dwell in us!

LETS PLAY A GAME

Play the boat is sinking, until you come up with at least 4 groups…

Group 1 will be against group 2 and group 3 against group 4. Then winner versus winner!

BULL’S EYE!!!

HOW TO PLAY THE GAME BULL’S EYE!!!

The winner of rock, paper and scissors will be the champions, and the loser will be the challengers. The challenger will be the first one to target (throw a stone) the forehead of Goliath and answer the question correctly to get a point. If the challenger misses the target, he will not be allowed to answer the question, he will also not get a point. Race to 3, whoever will get three points first, wins!

TEACHERS YOU WILL NEED:

• A 9-foot tall Goliath drawn on a manila paper with a big red circle on Goliaths forehead as the bull’s eye.

• A dart/stone (pebble)

• Masking tapes

Note: be careful, do not involve toddlers in this game

LESSON 1: GOD LOVES DOING ALL THE WORK

HIMSELFOur God wants all the glory, that is why He

likes doing all the work Himself.

• Isaiah 42:8 (New International Version)"I am the LORD; that is my name! 

       I will not give my glory to another        or my praise to idols.

He created the whole universe, the sun, moon and the stars. He perfectly made the sky, the land and the sea. He designed all the plants, flowers and the trees. He gave life to animals and gave life to His most precious creation… YOU AND ME.

Everything around us, reminds us of how glorious He is!

Now just like David, we should know our God very well. David knows for sure who His God is. He surely knows that His God wont leave Him nor forsake Him.

David boasted about His God prior to the fight with Goliath. David won because David asked for God’s help. David got his prizes. But the most important this is God’s name was glorified, and that’s what God wants.

3RD SUNDAY: JULY 18, 2010

RECAP!

We have discussed about David and Goliath last week. And we al know that despite of being small (weakness) David succeeded in killing Goliath (problem) with just one shot because he sought the help of God.

All of us have weaknesses in our lives and we also have problems to face and manage.

A MEMORABILIA OF DAVID’S BRAVERY AND GOD’S POWER

ACTIVITY TIME SUPPLIES

• Stones that is flat and may be used as paperweights (one for each child)

• Paint brushes (thin)• Acrylic Paints• Newspapers• Disposable plates (small)• Cups of water to rinse brushes• Pentel pen/ colored pens

ACTIVITY TIME!DAVID’S BRAVERY

1.  Create! Take a minute to talk to the children about the creation they are going to be doing in this workshop. Tell them that they will be painting the top side of a stone paperweight with a picture to remind them of David’s bravery and GOD’s power.

2.  What are some things you remember about David’s story? Brainstorm ideas, symbols, and scenes they remember about the story. What are some of the objects in the story? Tell them to choose one scene or symbol (shepherd’s crook, sling) of David to paint on the upper side of a stone.  A background may be painted.

3.  Steps:  Have children put on smocks/ newspapers over their shirts.  Give each child a stone and a pencil.  Tell them to lightly sketch their design on the stone.  Have paint pens and thin brushes and disposable plates with small amounts of acrylic paint ready to place on each table for children to share.  Cups of water should be used to wash brushes when changing colors.  Tell the children to depress the shaken pens until the paint flows. Painting is best when colors are applied side by side, not atop each other.  The paint pen color can be applied as lines or dots rather than solid areas.  Have the children initial their stone when their picture is finished and place them off to the side on individual paper towels.

 

4.  Clean up!  The paint will wash off hands before it dries.  Involve everyone in cleaning up so that you will have time to share together in the closing. You may want to have a prearranged signal for clean up and tell them at beginning of art project what that will be - perhaps giving them a 5 minute warning and then the final clean up notice to allow those who need a bit more warning that they need to complete whatever they are working on.

SYNTHESIS

Children, you can be just like David! You may take these stones home and put it on top of your study table. Whenever you face problems bigger than yourself, just look at this stone. It will remind you of David’s bravery and most of all GOD’S POWER!

LESSON 2: KEY TO PROSPERITY IS TO DEPEND

ON GODThe main key to prosperity is to depnd on

God in everyday life. No matter how small or big the problem is, God is very willing to help you through it.

His strength makes us more than conquerors.
