Aim of tonight
To provide an opportunity for you to meet staff
To hear about the key aspects of your child's day at school
To hear about the ethos of the House that your child is in and how we work together

The new normal
• Staggered start and end to the day
• Sanitising/washing hands on arrival and throughout the day
• Year group bubbles and teaching zones
• Year group tutor groups in Houses (temporary) and changes to timings of tutor slot
• Entrance and exit points for students to minimise mixing

Timings of school day
• 8:30am-8:40am: Arrival time
• 8:45am-9:15am – Tutor time
• 9:15am-10:15am – Period 1
• 10:15am- 11:30am- Period 2 to include DEAR time and Break time at 10:30am-10:45am
• 11:30am-12pm: Lunch time
• 12pm-1pm- Period 3
• 1pm-2pm- Period 4
• 2pm-3pm – Period 5
• 3pm – Departure time
Timetable and lessons
English 4 hours per week including an hour of Accelerated Reader.
Maths 3 hours per week
Science 3 hours per week
Languages 2 hours per week. A selected number of students will study one hour of language per week in order to provide them with targeted additional literacy and reading support.
Philosophy, Religion and Ethics (PRE) 1 hour per week
Physical Education 3 hours per week in Year 7
Geography 3 hours per fortnight in Year 7
History 3 hours per fortnight in Year 7
Art 1 hour per week
Design Technology - Taught as a rotation including Resistant Materials, Electronics, Food and Textiles - 2 hours per week
Computing 1 hour per week
Music 1 hour per week

The Carlton Learner
Achievement points
•Students are given achievement points in relation to their work in school according to The Carlton Learner characteristics.
•Students are awarded certificates at various points through the year depending on the number of achievement points they receive. In addition, there are additional awards for 20 students who have the most points in a calendar month.
•The certificates awarded are as follows:Bronze – 150 Achievement pointsSilver – 250 Achievement pointsGold – 350 Achievement points
Rewarding success
Break and lunch time
Break takes place at the front of the school and last for 15 minutes
Lunch takes places in the Dining Room and play area at the back of school and last for 30 minutes
Students can choose from a range of meals and items
A meal deal is £2.25 and consists of a main meal and dessert or sandwich and biscuit/piece of fruit
Cashless system of payment
Homework
The purpose of homework:
• To learn knowledge that can be applied in lessons
• To practise skills
• To become independent learners
• To learn time management
• To learn organisation skills
• To learn self-motivation
• To improve achievement
Key information:
• Students get a new booklet each half term
• Teachers will set you tasks from the booklet to complete
• 30 minutes per week for Eng, Maths and Sci. 30 minutes per fortnight for all other subjects
• Teachers will set homework through a website called Satchel One
• Teachers will check homework in lessons and check learning through quizzing
Communication

• Download and register for School Gateway App using your email & mobile number. This gives online access to attendance, behaviour and rewards data, timetable and assessment – you can use this every day to monitor and stay in touch – you can download it anytime and we will send you a message once we have got your details on our system.

• Send your child to school every day

• Understanding some things will be a challenge and resilience is very important
• Encourage them to get involved in our Opportunities Programme when launched
• Monitor them through the APP and contact with us directly
• Look at their books, discuss school work at home and enrich their experiences as much as you can
