A snapshot of Yeoville in Jozi

A slideshow of images from Grafton Street in Yeoville, one of the oldest suburbs in

Johannesburg. Imagine Johannesburg as a grid. Wits University

lies on the Northern border of the grid, with Melville slightly west of the university. The East, North, West and South Rand surround the city.

Yeoville is on the eastern border of the city, seperated from Wits by Braamfontein, then

Berea, then Hillbrow.

Yeoville lies in the shadow of the infamous Ponte apartment blocks, which are the highest residential blocks in the city. Nobody knows how residents on the top floor manage with the flashing Vodacom sign! Ponte is a landmark building and is home to a mishmash of people from all over Africa.

One of the best things about Jo'burg is the trees that populate the streets. The summer rains have arrived and the trees will soon come to life, their heavy branches creating beautiful arches.

I liked the colours of the houses on Grafton Street in Yeoville!

I love the heart of people...

Nazareth House is over 100 years old. It is a haven for anyone who is in desperate

circumstances. The Catholic Home has an old age home, Frail Care, an orphanage and a Hospice. The grounds are immaculate and

welcoming, as are the staff. It is people like these who keep Jo'burg alive.
