What makes Camp Conestogo so great?Camp Conestogo Y Day Camp provides an ‘unplugged’ setting that encourages connections with others and the natural world. The beautiful setting of Guelph Lake offers unique programming that supports youth to have fun while developing lifelong skills and realizing the best in themselves and others.

Camp Conestogo offers a traditional camp program with highlighted activities related to each theme throughout the week. Camp Conestogo is unique in that campers are engaged in an outdoor setting all day with the feel of an off-site overnight camp, but with the ability to return home each evening to the comfort of their own beds.

InclusionThe YMCA-YWCA of Guelph supports and works to support full inclusion for all youth within our camp setting. While we are not able to provide our own in-house one-to-one workers, we will work with families to be sure they are connected to the resources in our community to find the support they may need. The Guelph Y supports families who already have their own one-to-one support worker to join us at camp and will engage these support workers to feel included and part of our staff team when they are here for the week.

Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington Dufferin is proud to announce their continued participation in the Supporting Kids in Camp program. Supporting Kids in Camp (SKIC) provides children who have special needs with a trained and experienced one-to-one worker called ‘Support Counselors’ so that they may attend camps of the family’s choice. In fairness to all, this volunteer program is based on a first come first serve basis and applications for a volunteer support counselor are limited to one week during the summer program. Families may request to be placed on a waiting list for a second week.

Families who are able to pay for the cost of a one-to-one worker are also welcome to connect with the SKIC Program or Guelph Y to be partnered with a Support Worker who will be paid to support for the week by the family at a specific cost. Supporting Kids in Camp or the Guelph Y will help to pair you with someone and you may choose to attend camp for more than one week if required at a specified cost for each week.

Who can apply?• If you have a child under the age of 18 • With two or more identified areas of need (physical, cognitive and behavioural challenges)• Living in Guelph-Wellington wanting to attend a day camp in Guelph Wellington, • Requires support for successful inclusion in camp

While we are not able to provide our own one-to-one workers, we will work with families to ensure they are connected to resources in our community in order to find the support they may need. The Guelph Y supports families who already have their own one-to-one support worker by ensuring that this support worker feels included and part of our staff team when they are here for the week.

Supporting Kids in Camp (SKIC) Supporting Kids in Camp (SKIC) provides children who have special needs with a trained and experienced one-to-one support counsellor so that they may attend camps of the families’ choice. There is no cost to families for this service as it is funded by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services (MCYS). In fairness to all, this program is based on first come first serve basis and applications for a support counselor are limited to one week during the summer program. Families may request to be placed on a waiting list for a second week.

Who can apply?• Children under the age of 18.

• With two or more identified areas of need (physical, cognitive and behavioural challenges).

• Living in Guelph-Wellington area wanting to attend a day camp in the Guelph-Wellington area.

• Requires support for successful inclusion at camp.

All eligible applicants must follow the process described below.

Application to Supporting Kids in Camp (SKIC)1. Choose a camp program for your child and register for that program.

2. While registering, be sure to complete the two-part SKIC registration form and return it to the SKIC coordinator (address below).

• This form can also be downloaded online at www.guelphy.org.

3. The SKIC Program Coordinator will contact the Y to ensure we are committed to the philosophy of inclusion, and will then contact your family regarding acceptance.
