BRIEF HISTORY OF YORKIn the 8th and 9th centuries, the Vikings founded a town on the River Ouse that
one day would become the city of York. They founded many colletions of their own from different countries that they lived in
IN 1069 William the New king came to York to build his castle on a motte and a cathedral that stands proudly overlooking the city today.
Today York is the most amazing and historical city in Yorkshire. You can visit the Jorvik Viking and Roman Centre where you will learn about all this history
and also go and see the Minster which will be iin later slides.
THE RIVER OF YORK
The River Ouse is the main river that flows through the city of York. This river is the biggest river in Yorkshire. After
flowing through York, it goes to the Humber Estuary where is goes to the North Sea
THE RIVER BOAT
The river boat is a great experience to get into the city of York. You will hear lots of tales about York & the stories of this great river. You can hop on and hop off whenever you like in York. People will like this as
they see a unlike side of the city of York.
YORK MINSTER- 2 SLIDESYork Minster is a cathedral in England. This cathedral was founded in the 12th century.
Their has been 2 cathedrals on the site since the Gothic one. A weooden cathedral in 627 Ad and 1069 which were destroyed by fires.
The gothic style Cathedral today tells the story since the 12th century. The cathedral has a normal
church with weddings, funeral and christenings happening every day here.
JORVIK VIKING MUSEUMJorvik is a Viking museum in York. It houses the start of the vogage of the Viking period
back in the 7 and 8th centuries. The Vikings came to York to build their city over the river Ouse. Today the museum houses exhibitions,
galleries and stories of the past from the Viking period.
CITY SIGHTSEEING
The York City Sightseeing Bus takes you on a journey through the city of York. The bus takes you on a route around the town and the major attractions and history of the town. This is very good for kids and family to do as you will learn history and facts about
York.
WALKING YOUR DOGS1: Naburn Lock: Walk near the river to a lovely village near York. You can
pick the river boat or walk into York.
2: York river walk: Walk alongside the River in York, take in the pretty places of York and see many different birds along route.
