We have already shown how quickly that integration can occur, by showcasing an integrated Elpas/Software House solution at this past ISCW tradeshow. 1.) The Tyco Separation is proceeding as planned. What’s it mean to us?

» The team that is managing the separation activities is doing a terrific job in that it is largely invisible to our everyday jobs. In essence, we’ve already been operating as if the separation has occurred, working under George Oliver’s leadership in the

As I’ve advocated in the past, Health & Wellness in the workplace is a priority for our organization. I believe that lead-ership plays a key role in ensuring environmental conditions support employee Health & Wellness and that employees are aware that their behaviors and those of their colleagues make all the difference in this matter. In the end it comes down to individual

Health and Wellness: A Real Life Case Study from Mark VanDoveremployees, and the choices they make. That was how it worked for me. I recently lost fifty pounds and I feel great. What made all the difference for me were the choices I made (and continue to make) each and every day. I am choosing to make improved health and fitness a priority. The things that help me are choosing leaner and more nutritious foods and choosing to make time to exercise regularly. Losing fifty pounds certainly wasn’t a cake walk (pun intended) and I don’t want to backslide. So I’m posting my personal health and wellness goal to you so you will help me stay on track with my healthier life choices. My goal is to main-tain this weight and improve my

general health and fitness, so I’m hoping this choice –to share this with everyone – will invite you to keep an eye out and help me stay on track. My recent weight loss has generated a lot of comments and interest from many of you and I appreciate all the sup-port and congratulations you have been sending. And a lot of you have been sharing your health and wellness tips. I am very impressed with some of the personal and professional improvements I’ve been hearing about. So much so that I’d like to hear more and I’d like you to share tips for personal and professional improvements so that all of us can benefit. They can be anything at all as long as

you can tell us what the “before” situation was and tell us what the “after” part is (like my two photos below demonstrate!). I invite you to share with all of us on Yammer and we’ll feature some of these in Momentum.

The event commemorated a successful year of mutual business and served as a venue to launch their special leading suppliers’ booklet for 2012, in which Visonic’s new Power Master panels and Outdoor detectors are shown on the first 4 pages.

Visonic has been partners with G4S Israel for the last 35 years, and the Visonic Israel team was awarded the 2011 most valued supplier/partner. ✦

American Dynamics and Software House have improved the training experience for customers with two completely new training rooms. Previously, the two training rooms were located in separate parts of the building; the combined training suite replaces those, presenting a clean, technologically modern, noise-controlled environment for a greatly improved training experience.

The facility can now accommodate more students, serving up to 80 each month, and provides an array of necessary training tools including segregated servers, up-to-date products, and ergonomically correct seating. ✦

Social Media Corner, by Chuck Vion Living the Tyco Values: Miguel GalvezYouTube | Beyond the cat videos At some point

in our lives most of us have watched a viral video hosted on YouTube (who hasn’t seen the ridiculous cat videos that seem to go viral daily!) There is, however, a business side to YouTube that can be leveraged without recording gimmick videos.

Tyco Security Products currently has seven YouTube channels where we showcase product features, how-to videos, tradeshow participation, and other value-add video content. But, beyond helping existing customers, how does YouTube help grow our business?

It’s no secret that we want our content to list high on browser search results so potential customers searching for solutions find us. This is what Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is all about. Having video on YouTube is an indirect way to accomplish page one search listings. In 2007, Google started giving YouTube videos, web images, and place listings priority on the first page of their results. Having quality video content on YouTube optimized for specific keywords provides us a greater chance to achieve this.

Furthermore, YouTube is the world’s 2nd largest search engine behind Google, which owns YouTube. YouTube presents another opportunity to be discovered. Videos not only need to be optimized for keywords, but a YouTube channel’s ‘authority’ also plays part in deciding search rankings. Authority is achieved by number of video views, commenting, having videos added to playlists, and number of subscribers to the channel.

So how can you help?

First create your own free YouTube account/channel and then subscribe to ALL of our branded channels, which can be done easily from a single web page listing our Social Media accounts (while there follow our Twitter accounts too!). A channel with more subscribers has a better chance for its videos to rank higher in search results than a competitor using similar keywords. And by subscribing, you’ll also be alerted (based on your YouTube notification preferences) when any of our brands have released new videos.

Another way to help is by viewing and clicking the ‘like’ button for all the brand videos. Take that a step a further and create playlists on your own YouTube channel of the videos you have liked for each brand or at least for the Tyco Security Products brands you support.

Engagement (leaving comments) is another excellent way to show support because Google takes comment volume into account when ranking videos. Lastly, help us promote our videos to your social network on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, or even Google+.

YouTube is an excellent source of quality content to help one learn and discover; it’s not all about viral videos. Beyond helping us with our YouTube strategy, try using YouTube as a resource the next time you are researching online. Have questions about how to help promote our brands using YouTube, feel free to send me a message on Yammer. ✦

Momentum: Congratulations Miguel! You’re being recognized for your incredible work ethic, most recently demonstrated by what you were able to achieve for the recent ISCW show. Can you tell us a little bit about that?

MG: Sure! The minute the Visonic acquisition was announced, all of us in the R&D group started thinking about how we might be able to leverage the technologies. The opportunity came pretty quickly with the challenge of showing integration between Elpas and C∙CURE 9000 at the ISCW conference. Initially, we thought the tight timing would force us to display simple Weigand communication, but that’s not really how this group rolls! In just a matter of a few weeks, we were able to show a pretty robust integration where an event would be triggered in C∙CURE 9000 when someone wearing an Elpas tag entered a monitored area. It showed really well at the tradeshow.

Momentum: Your title is intriguing. Can you tell us about some of the cool integration work you’re doing?

MG: My title is pretty descriptive, actually. My focus is on working with our business’ two integration platforms (C∙CURE 9000 and victor) and ensuring that all of the ancillary solutions we want to integrate with do so in a sustainable, supportable way. All of the work I do is aimed at bringing our customers the best user experience possible. The victor solution is a very exciting platform to work on and one that will allow us to offer our customers one place to manage and monitor their entire integrated system. Some of the cool things we are working on in our group involve Cloud Computing Virtualization and development of mobile apps.

Momentum: If you could meet any celebrity, who would it be?

MG: Well, other than wanting to meet Leo Messi, a famous soccer player on the Barcelona team, I’m not really into the typical celebrities. What I’d really love is the opportunity to meet one of those “behind the scenes” people who came up with some amazing technology. I’d love to ask him or her where they were when they thought of the idea? What triggered the idea? I feel like it’s similar to writing a song…you may be in the middle of the shower, or in a movie theater when suddenly you’re struck with an epiphany. That intrigues me. ✦

Momentum: Congratu-lations on your recent promotion to General Man-ager, China for the Security Products business! You’ve certainly had a long, success-ful career with the company leading up to this. Can you give us a little history lesson on your background?

JB: Thanks, I’m excited about the new role and looking for-ward to meeting the challenge given to me. I’ve been in the electronic security industry for 26 years now; starting out as an electronic technician while in the US Navy, aboard the USS Tattnall. I’ve been with Tyco for the past 10 years, spending the last 3 years here in China. Prior to Tyco, I spent 11 years with the City of Chicago as the Assistant Commissioner of Security and Information Technology. We were one of the first airports to install a fully integrated ac-cess and video solution across two airport campuses. I had the privilege of investing more than $110M in security and IT systems at O’Hare and Mid-way Airports during my tenure there. It was prior to that when I spent four years in the US Navy. I came to Tyco as a vertical market sales manager for airports. Since then I have also held several roles in Jim Kelly’s organization as the Sales Director for InterCom-

pany Sales and as the head of the Strategic Sales Group. Three years ago, I accepted the assignment as Director of Sales for Asia-Pacific, cover-ing a large territory from India to New Zealand. It’s been a fantastic opportunity working with multiple regions and with all of our brands.

Momentum: Obviously, your region has been getting a lot of attention as a key emerg-ing market. What do you see as some of the key drivers to watch for in China?

JB: Globally, China has seen the biggest growth in security product sales over the past several years, which will continue as they build-up their infrastructure. This has translated into significant growth in our brands, but it is still a small part of the overall market share. The new role of General Manager has been tasked to find ways for exponential growth in the region and to find ways to increase our brand awareness and market share. There are two types of customers in China; those that only want China products and those that only want foreign products. We have made some strong headway into getting aware-ness of our solutions to the latter. We will be focusing much of our attention on the growing verticals in China. There is going to be more than 100 subway lines built in China over the next several years; we have already won the video installations for five of them averaging over 1,000 cameras per subway line. We

have our solutions in seven of the China airports and are growing our airport footprint regularly. We will also be pursuing power, hospitality and healthcare verticals which are growing in China. China is unique in that the security infrastructures are made of state-of-the-art IP technol-ogy, but often use analog at the edge. We believe that the CEM and VideoEdge solu-tions are a perfect match for this region. Software House is also a known brand in the region and we continue to enjoy growth with our global partners, as well as key Chi-nese installations including the China National Museum and the two International Airports in Shanghai. The intrusion market is relatively small, but we believe it will grow aggressively along with the growth of a middle-class in China.

Momentum: When you first joined Tyco, you came from being a security director of Chicago O’Hare Airport. What kinds of things did you learn as a security end-user that you find valuable, even today?

JB: End-users want the best technology they can get, but they also must fit it into a budget. We compete with so many other security manufac-turers, both local companies and multi-national corpora-tions. The key thing that I looked for in a product com-pany was support; and that is key to the China end-users as well. For this reason, we have started to invest heavily in our local technical support and

logistics functions. Having the latest technology avail-able to the market at the right price is important, but we are going to succeed based on our commitment to the customer, having local support capa-bilities and providing them investment protection in their purchase. We are employing a local-for-local strategy that is starting to grow our custom-ers’ confidence levels

Momentum: Since you are originally from the US, I imagine it took some time for you and your family to become accustomed to the Chinese culture. Today, what do you like most about China?

JB: My wife (Sara), our 17 year old daughter (Isabelle) and I live in Shanghai which is a very cosmopolitan city. I would compare it to US cities, such as Chicago, London, Boston, Toronto and NYC. Most of our visitors, who come to Shanghai from around the world, are very surprised at how contemporary it is. We miss many of the US ameni-ties, including food, sports, museums and entertainment; but we have also integrated well into this city and feel priv-ileged to have this opportunity. I am most impressed with the Chinese people, especially the Tyco Security Products team in China. The Chinese have a work ethic and drive for results that mirror that of people in the US. We have been accepted well in this country and are witnessing its growth in business and culture firsthand. ✦
