HAPPY NOROUZ!
Welcome Spring and Happy Norouz to all our families celebrating! On March 6th, students in our primary grades had a chance to learn about the holiday of Norouz. Norouz is the Persian New Year. With the help of some wonderful parent volunteers and our Settlement Worker, students enjoyed seeing the haftsin table and decorating eggs. Norouz Mobarak!

THE CANADIAN TAIKWONDO CENTRE IS COMING TO DONCREST!
The Canadian Taekwondo Centre and your School Council are pleased to offer the World Class Kids
program. This is a 4-session character development program that incorporates physical exercise
with life skills and character building lessons. All students in grades K to 8 are included in this rich
learning opportunity. These sessions are designed to introduce your child to basic martial arts and
emphasize listening skills, co-operation, courtesy and respect. The program is taught by certified
Master Instructors from the Canadian Taekwondo Centre under the guidance of Grand Master Tae
Hwan Son, 9th Degree Black Belt and former Taekwondo World Champion. The four sessions will
cover respect, focus, teamwork and confidence. The cost for the 4 sessions is $5 per child and
includes a t-shirt. Please visit School Cash Online to pay for your child(ren). We would like to extend
a special thanks to Canadian Taekwondo Centre for their generous offer to provide this program at a
very reduced cost for all our students. As well, a huge thank you to our Doncrest School Council
paying for the t-shirts that all students will receive.

THE INCLUSION PROJECT
In light of the recent tragedy in New Zealand, our thoughts are with our Muslim community and all those affected by such a horrific event. At Doncrest, we truly believe that the world would be a better place if we all showed kindness and tolerance. Our inclusion projects continue in an effort to promote these beliefs.
Please see the Say No To Hate information at the end of the e-Bulletin.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Kindergarten Registration Is On Now! Kindergarten registration is now open for 2019-20 school year. Registration forms are available on YRDSB’s website: www.yrdsb.ca. Children who turn four or five years old during 2019, live within the school boundary and whose parents are public school tax supporters will be eligible to register for kindergarten. A kindergarten information session for parents is planned for Thursday, May 2nd. For more information, please visit the YRDSB website or call us at the school.
FRENCH IMMERSION REGISTRATION
An information session for the French Immersion (FI) program took place at Doncrest on January 17, 2019. FI registration is ongoing, for Senior Kindergarten students entering Grade 1 in 2019. Registration is now on a first come, first served basis.

HOMEWORK CLUB A reminder of the new homework club at Doncrest. Homework club takes place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:30-8:20 in room 129 with Ms. Krumholz. Homework club is a space where students from any grade can come to receive homework support or a quiet space to complete any unfinished work. This is a fantastic opportunity so please encourage your child to take advantage of this.
DAILY ROUTINES
School starts promptly at 8:35 a.m. If your child arrives late to school, they are missing out on important learning.
Please do not drop your child off at school before 8:20 a.m. There is no supervision before 8:20.
Please ensure your child knows how he or she is getting home after school before the school day begins. When plans change at the end of the day it is very difficult for office staff to ensure that the message gets to your child. Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to ensure that every child gets home safely. Unless a note is written by parents in the morning, we ask that you do not sign out your child after 2:45 pm. It is too busy in the office at this time to be calling students down for an early dismissal.
SCHOOL DROP OFF REMINDERS We continue to experience challenging issues at drop off and pick up times each day. Please remember:
There is no stopping in front of the house just to the south of the school driveway. The people who live there can’t enter or exit their driveway and buses can’t make a safe turn.
Turning around in driveways and making u-turns are not permitted on Blackmore.
If you are using the tennis court parking lot, please do not pull up in front of the stairs to let your child out. This blocks traffic for everyone who is trying to park and walk their child to school.
If your child is old enough to drop and leave, you should be dropping them in front of the stairs on Blackmore, not in the tennis court parking lot.
Thank you for your ongoing support of all families who attend Doncrest. We are teaching our students all about kindness. You can help by demonstrating courteous behavior and leading by example. We thank you for your continued support.
Please visit our calendar page to view all upcoming events. Thank you!
Happy Norouz!

Elizabeth left the Front in 1995 and has since contributed to numerous anti-racist education and arts initiatives, reaching millions with her story of personal change. In 1998, her time within the Heritage Front made up part of the award-winning CBC drama, White Lies, starring Sarah Polley and Lynn Redgrave.
