Sponges

Sponges have a variety of uses in the studio. For cleanup, we recom-mend the car wash and synthetic sponges. Our other sponges are generally used while throwing on the wheel. They provide superior absorbency and fine texture.

Sherrill Mudsponge Mudsponges are great pop-up sponges made of an environmentally friendly, open cell material which is very absorbent and has been shaped like a potters rib to fit comfortably into the palm of your hand. The sponges are color coded for doing different jobs in your studio.

Blue sponges: durable, all-purpose workhorse sponge.Orange sponges: a fine throwing sponge, holds a lot of water.White sponges: feels fine like a chamois. Great for clean up work.

Hake Brushes Specially imported from overseas. The hair is extremely soft and suited to laying on large flat areas of colour, slips and glazes.

M-100 Japanese Brushes These brushes are a mix of natural goat and horse hairs and are excel-lent for applying slip, glaze, and waterbased washes. The brushes come with a glue in the bristles that stiffens the hair to protect them while shipping. Prior to using the brush, just soak the hair in cool wa-ter to soften the glue and then gently rinse the glue out. Lengths vary from approx. 1/2" to 2" bristle.Tip: Rinsing out with hot water can loosen the bristles, so using cool water can make your brushes last longer!
