This massive pothole appeared recently at the crossing of DeClerq and Kerk Street and Thaba Chweu Municipality tried to fill it as seen on the photos. Upon closer inspection you can see the massive rocks being thrown in so the trucks can drive on it but if your vehicle is smaller than a truck, you’ve got problems. The road becomes a “4x4 track” on the rest of Kerk Street downward towards Gawie Mare Panel Beaters. There is no tar left and it

looks like this road is being scraped but to no avail. The town council don’t have money as usual and the businesses there don’t have money either because nobody can drive on that road to support these businesses. If

these roads don’t get fixed, there will be a lot of businesses closing.Where will the municipality then be financially without their rates and taxes?

SATURDAY 30 May 2015 was a life changer for many patients who have been waiting to undergo orthopedic surgery in Mpumalanga hospitals. The long awaited operation Letsima which means “FIX THE BONE” is an intervention initiated by the Mpumalanga Department of health to deal with the backlog of patients who have been waiting to undergo surgery.Doctors from Gauteng together with other doctors from the province conducted the surgery on patients brought from various hospitals to Rob Ferreira in Mbombela.Before the operation started, MEC for Health in Mpumalanga, Mr. Gillion Mashego welcomed all the doctors during a media breakfast held at the hospital.“A large number of patients have been on the waiting list for quite a long time for this service. In the beginning of the year, the number of patients who were waiting for Orthopedic surgery was standing at over two thousand throughout the province whilst there are three orthopedic surgeons within the Mpumalanga Department of Health”- said the MEC.The MEC further stated that a lot has been done to deal with the high number of patients who have been in hospital. “Throughout the months, the three orthopedic surgeons in the province, with the assistance of the medical officers have

cut down the high number of orthopedic patients waiting for surgery. We were told that the number is now 366. This shows the amount of dedication the doctors have shown in their work, despite the minimum number of doctors available.

Following analysis of the figure of 366 patients awaiting orthopedic surgery in the province, the team of specialists decided to start operating on 41 patients for the weekend of 29-31 May 2015. Eleven patients were operated on Friday 29 May, fifteen patients were operated on Saturday 30 May, and four patients were operated on Sunday 31 May. The total operations done were 30, making a shortfall of 11 from the planned 41.

The shortfall on the number of operations conducted where due to the fact that some of the patients had more than one operation, b e c a u s e o f m u l t i p l e fractures. All the patients had old fractures and those take two to three times theatre time compared to new fractures. Operation Letsima will now continue in the various hospitals where the remaining patients will be operated on. ONE must wonder about the ANC and the Presidency’s decision making abilities. Are they taking decisions on their own, or are they using advisors? Whatever they do, clearly they do not consult their voters or knowledgeable people.I can cite many, many examples, but due to a lack of space, will concentrate on the more important recent disasters.The eToll issue stands out. What a terrible mess, designed to enrich a few politicians but siphon most of the money out of the country. This disaster will never fly due to civil

disobedience.The next is Eskom. Did they really think they can continue to promise electricity to the poor and connect households all over the country without upgrading the system in time? If so, this displays a severe lack of mental prowess. And they up the price? More and more people will stop paying and they say government can go to hell. Every normal citizen agrees.They are in trouble in Nelson Mandela Bay Metro (Port Elizabeth) and they choose Danny Jordaan as mayor. Really? What has Bafana Bafana achieved during said person’s tenure? And now the man’s reputation is tainted with yet another government scandal. He remains innocent until proven guilty yes, but why install such a person as mayor, when you

already run the risk of losing that constituency?Relaxing an outwardly healthy Shaik’s parole conditions after he sat for only 2 years, but waiting 22 years before granting Darby Lewis parole. The man is on the verge of death. Yes, he committed a murder, but he has effectively done more than the normal “life sentence”. I am not even mentioning Nkandla or the arms deal, from which scandals this government will never recover.Read the Social Media. Have you ever seen a president so openly loathed and despised by his people? In some countries people will be jailed for such remarks, but the feeling is so strong that people do not care any more. Civil disobedience and crime are rife. Does that point to a satisfied citizenry? Surely not. Despite what the polls and the voting box say, the ANC has lost its ability to govern and to make this a better place for all. And all this because of one bad decision after the other. What incompetence!

50 jaar gelede is mnr. Frank en me. Stienie Craig in Nelspruit getroud. Hulle is bekende inwoners van Badfontein, buite Lydenburg, en het bykans 43 jaar geboer voor hulle na die dorp verhuis het. Die plaas het aan die Craig-familie behoort sedert 1860. Die egpaar het twee kinders en ses kleinkinders. Hulle het Vrydag, 5 Junie 2015 hul 50ste huweliksherdenking gevier. Veels geluk aan hulle van familie, vriende en die gemeenskap.

THE son of well known early Lydenburg businessman Anton van Dort and brother of Dirk van Dort, Elton Jan van Dort (5/10/1940) passed away on the 2nd of June 2015, after suffering a debilitating stroke some 18 months ago. Together with his brother Dirk, Elton was the well known owner of AA Morgan, before the business was sold to Peter Goldsmith.The memorial service took place on Saturday at the Methodist Church, Lydenburg and the service was led by Lynette Crossley. Elton is survived by his wife Bettie, their children and grandchildren.

KIA's most affordable car, the ‘enhanced’ Picanto, has arrived in South Africa.Kia says the Picanto’s charm has not worn off but four years down the line it's gained a few enhancements.While the two-model Picanto line-up is unchanged, enhancements to the exterior see a restyled front bumper and a revised 'tiger nose' grille.The new bumper is flatter and more square. The large central air intake is now a single unit compared to the previous model and is flanked by two larger, also more square fog light housings recessed into the corners of the bumper.The lights, positioned centrally within the housing, now function as daytime running lights and come on with the ignition. SINCE its introduction in SA, I have driven all the GWM Steed double cab bakkies. The Steed 5 E differs from the Steed 5 in that it has a completely different front end, very similar to the VW Amarok. It is by far the most handsome Steed ever.This one is equipped with the 2.0 VGT SX diesel turbo unit, driving through a 6-speed gearbox to the rear wheels. It produces 105 kW of power and a very good 305 Nm of torque.I must admit that earlier models lacked refinement, but I was completely taken by surprise with the 5 E. The suspension is still very firm like a bakkie should be, but I loved it.The vehicle comes with two airbags, ABS, electric windows and mirrors, climate control, remote fuel flap, remote radio controls on the steering, radio / CD / Aux and USB-in, 6-speaker sound system (no RDS on radio), rake adjustable power steering, 12 V power point, ashtray and cigarette lighter and front fog lamps.The warranty is 5 years or 100 000 km. A service plan is optional. Service intervals are at 10 000 km.So, why do I like the Steed 5 E? Firstly, with the exception of the rear bumper, it is very handsome. The vehicle looks classy and the piano black dash and controls are beautiful. Leather seats and plenty space makes the interior a nice place to be. Rear legroom is on par with the competition and is actually good. There are the usual cup holders, dual centre console pockets (one rather deep but not very big) and all the controls feel solid and work well. Instruments are comprehensive and very clear to read. Cooling and heating from the climate control system works well and you do not need an IT degree to work the system.The vehicle is equipped with 16 inch alloy wheels with decent rubber.On the road the engine is very smooth with a little typical TD turbo lag, but power is delivered smoothly from low down and the engine feels very strong. At speed in sixth gear, inclines were no problem and the 5 E cruised effortlessly. At 120 km/h the engine turns at 2 200 rpm in sixth and at 140 it turs at 2 800 rpm, which should ensure good cruising speed, range and fuel consumption. The fuel tank holds 70 litres.What impressed me above previous models were the positive, solid shift of the gearbox with no play in the lever, good brakes, directional stability (although the hard suspension keeps you awake), the quiet cabin (no wind or road noise) and overall feel of good build quality.This is the first Chinese bakkie that I have driven, which I would not mind owning at all and at R 269 900 it is exceptional value for money.So, people say I just say good things about the vehicles I test. Not so. There are a few minor points of criticism on this one too. The radio should at least have RDS. There are no vanity mirrors on the sun visors. The rear bumper does not look all that strong. It is all a question of economics. At the price of the Steed 5 E, I could replace the radio here in Lydenburg from an aftermarket dealer, complete with touchscreen and rearview camera and DVD player for around R 7 000. I know, because I have done that on my little Nissan bakkie. Two stick on mirrors will solve the vanity mirror problem and as I do with all my vehicles, I would fit a heavy duty rear bumper with towbar. I could do all of that with less than R 20 000.A Steed 5 E (SE) with touchscreen radio and side steps etc. is available, but I like this bakkie as it is. There is also the slightly bigger Steed 6, but as far as looks go, the 5 E is the ticket!Can I recommend it? Would I buy it? Pamflette bied redelik resultate, maar moet wyd versprei word en die plaaslike koerante het die infrastruktuur om dit te versprei. Plakkate werk nie. B A B B E L K O U S I E S Kleuterskool het 'n fonds-insamelings projek vir KANSA op Vrydag 29 Mei 2015, gehou.Ons het net weereens opnuut besef hoe belangrik en kosbaar ons gesondheid is en wil dit graag onder ons ouers en kleuters se aandag bring van hoe belangrik dit is om 'n goeie en gesonde l ee f s ty l t e handhaaf.Ons het KANSA genader om te help met die projek. KANSA het dit baie duidelik gemaak dat d ie fondse h o o f s a a k l i k v i r navorsingsdoeleindes gaan. Dit is vir ons 'n voorreg om K A N S A f i n a n s i e e l t e ondersteun.Daar is 'n paar vrywilligers wat aangebied het om al hul hare af te skeer en ons bedank graag die volgende onderwyseresse en ouers wat bereid was om al

hul hare af te skeer, ten bate van die fondsinsamelings-p r o j e k : A m a n d a v a n Heerden (Skoolhoof van Babbelkousies) Adri-Annet de Jager, Carol Minnaar, Kleinjan du Toit, Vicky Lessing, Gail Smit.Die fondsinsamelingsprojek was 'n baie groot sukses. Al ons ouers en kleuters het waarlik 'n groot poging aangewend om 'n verskil in baie kanker pasiente se lewens te maak. 'n Totale bedrag van R20 100

is ingesamel en ons kan nie genoeg ons dankbaarheid uitspreek teenoor elke persoon wat finansieel bygedra het nie. Baie, baie dankie vir elke bydrae, mag ons Hemelse Vader elkeeen in besonder seen. Baie dankie aan elke individuele bydrae, elke persoon se donasie word opreg waardeer.
