1 FOREWORD

Welcome to Sittard-Geleen. On behalf of the organization I welcome all participants at the

28th edition of the Limburgse Handbal Dagen. We are delighted to greet you all and are

looking forward to an exciting and high-quality tournament.

Big changes will attribute to the design of the Limburgse Handbal Dagen this year. We have

said farewell to the Stadssporthal, a venue in which we experienced many good times in the

past 27 years. Having Fitland XL as the only venue requires changes in the match schedule.

Moreover, to increase the attractiveness of the tournament, the shoot-out element will be

implemented.

By contracting participants from Norway, Czech Republic, Portugal, Romania, Australia,

Russia and the Netherlands, we succeeded in our efforts in created a line-up with different

playing styles and backgrounds. With the contracting of Sydney Uni HC, the Oceanic

Champions and IHF Super Globe participant, an Australian team will be participating for the

very first time.

At the end of my first year as President, I was able to conclude that the phenomenon of the

Limburgse Handbal Dagen has not lost any of its attractiveness. Therefore, despite

threatening factors, we will do anything to ensure the future existence and expansion of this

tournament. Together with our colleagues of OCI Lions we are convinced of the fact that

handball at this high level in the our region will contribute to the development of handball in

general and the conservation of this sport for both adults and youth.

By way of conclusion, on behalf of the organization and over 200 volunteers, I wish you all a

vibrant tournament. Allow all spectators to enjoy sparkling, exciting and high-quality

handball, something that you are all capable of.

We are looking forward to it. Are you?

Ronald Snippe

2 HISTORY

2.1 Limburgse Handbal Dagen

It all started in the spring of 1988, the year that Holland's most successful handball club

“Sittardia” celebrated their 40st anniversary. To celebrate this milestone they decided to

organize an international tournament. The initial plan was to host the tournament in

September, before the start of the Dutch competition. However, this timeframe was too short

to establish a proper organization. For this reason, the committee decided to organize the

tournament in the period between Christmas and New Year. When “neighbors” and

competitor handball clubs Blauw Wit (Beek) and V&L (Geleen) expressed the interest to co-

organize the tournament, the Limburgse Handbal Dagen were born.

6 RULES OF PLAY

Rules of the match

The rules during this tournament are identical to those used by the International Handball

Federation (IHF) unless stated otherwise.

Tournament directors, delegates and referees

LHD has appointed two independent EHF delegates as tournament director being responsible

for nomination and supervision of the assigned referees as well as the smooth running of

the schedules matches.

Local handball federations have been requested to nominate referees and delegates which

are subsequently invited by the LHD.

During the matches, there is no possibility to protest against:

referee´s decisions;

sequence of the matches;

nomination of referees.

Arbitration

Protest will only be recognized by the tournament director if stated within two hours after

the end of the concerning match, and not later than 5 minutes after the final match.

Protests will firstly be handled by the tournament directors. Their decision will be followed

by subsequent action.

Match schedule and times

The teams are divided into two groups consisting of four teams. Each team will be playing

three group matches on day 1 and 2 as well as one final match on day 3. The outline of the

matches will be announced not later than the opening meeting on the first day of the

tournament; please take into consideration that only the first match in the group is

scheduled. The timing of the second and third match as well as the opponent depend on the

result of the first group match.

The president and/or competition manager of the LHD have the right to change:

the schedule of the matches;

the throw off time of the matches.

During the tournament, matches and scheduled times might change due to (live) TV

Page 15: 15 LHD Guide

Limburgse Handbal Dagen 2015 version 2.0 / December 2015

Shoot out

After each match both teams play a shoot out competition.

before the match 3 players of each team are nominated by the team officials;

those three players can be replaced by a fourth or fifth player in case one of the

nominated players is injured and is not able to play or received a red card during the

match;

the shoot out starts immediately after the game (there is no break or time-out

scheduled);

goalkeepers and the three nominated players stay on their side of the court (they do not

change sides). Players gather behind the 6m-area on the right hand side of the goal;

the team that is listed first in the match schedule (“home” team) starts first;

when the referee blows his whistle the player plays the ball back to his goalkeeper;

during the pass the ball is not allowed to hit the ground;

the player must catch the ball and try to score a goal, without any rule violation;

creative or spectacular goals are awarded with two points;

if the attacking goalkeeper or the court player commits a rule violation the attack is over;

the defending goalkeeper is not allowed to leave his area at any time;

shoot out by three players of each team alternately until a decision has been reached.

in case there is a draw after the first round of the shoot outs the until a final

In case of a draw after the initial scheduled group matches the result of the shoot out is

decisive and determines the ‘winner’ or ‘loser’ for the remaining group matches.

Main round matches and ranking

The ranking in the respective group is based on adding the points of both matches and

shout outs.

Winning match: 3 points

Draw: 1 point

Lost match: 0 points

Winning shoot out: 1 point

Lost shoot out: 0 points

Page 16: 15 LHD Guide

Limburgse Handbal Dagen 2015 version 2.0 / December 2015

In case teams have identical points, the ranking will be based on:

1. the number of points achieved in matches won or drawn;

2. the result of the match(es) between the teams involved;

3. the result of the shout out(s) between the teams involved;

4. difference in goals, scored in the matches between the teams involved;

5. greater number of plus goals scored in all matches played among them;

6. difference in goals, scored in all the group matches;

7. greater number of plus goals scored in all the group matches;

8. official draw by the EHF delegates, president and the competition manager.

Please note: “teams involved” means “those teams with the same number of points”.

Please note: Points 1-4 refer to those matches of the teams with the same number of points.

If the points 1-4 do not bring a decision, points 5-6 will be decisive, which points refer to all

3 matches in the group.

Final round

On day three all teams play one game as part of the final round. This match is played against

the team of the other group ended at the same position.

In case a match for the position 5 up to 8 ends in a draw, the shoot out as prescribed above

will decide the game, without playing extra time. When the match for position 3 and 4 or the

final game ends in a draw, the following is applicable:

After a 5 minute break the game continues with an extra time of 2x5 minutes. A time out

allows teams to change sides. When there is still a draw after this, the shoot out as described

above will decide the match.

Number of players

A maximum of sixteen players and the number of officials must be reported to the

organization committee, ultimately 4 hours before the start of the first match.

Sixteen players and four officials are allowed to actually participate in any match. The names

have to be announced to the representatives of the organization, ultimately 30 minutes

before the start of the match. The names are listed in the Match and Referees Report.

Equipment

The team should bring at least two sets of match shirts for both players and goalkeepers in

different in colour. Each player is obliged to keep the same shirt number during the whole

tournament.

Page 17: 15 LHD Guide

Limburgse Handbal Dagen 2015 version 2.0 / December 2015

Both referees and tournament directors are responsible to validate the colour of the shirts

for both players and goalkeepers. The team that is listed first in the match schedule (“home”

team) is required to change the colour of the shirts in case the colour of the shirts is the

same or nearly the same. This team should change their shirts in such a way that a clear

difference in colours is visible.

Exceptions

Only the directors of the tournament in consultation with the president and the competition

manager of the organization can validate modifications of the rules.
