FROM THE DESK OF OUR PRINCIPAL
Giinagaay Welcome to the end of week 3.
This week Year 3 and 5 students have commenced NAPLAN, this will continue into next week for a number of
students who will have catch up tests, due to absences. Well done to all our students who have given their best
during the assessment process.
On Monday I will be meeting with Public Works and successful contractors to discuss coordination of the next stage
of our disability integration works including ramps, disabled parking drop off zone, covered walkway at the front of
the school and a lift to the library/first floor. There is quite extensive work occurring in our school and will continue
over the coming weeks.
Many thanks for ensuring your child attends school on time, in uniform, with any necessary supplies. Over the next
two weeks we will be collating data on partial attendance, particularly late arrivals and this will be a focus. Arriving
late means your child misses the time to settle into the day, catch-up with friends in the playground and creates an
unsettled start in class as they are trying to find out what has already been discussed. It is essential children arrive
ready for the morning assembly no later than 9:05am. If your child is late they must be signed in at the front office
by yourself or the adult who has brought them to school.
Have a great weekend.

PET SAFETY
Yesterday Gina from “Responsible Pet Ownership Program” spoke to students from K-2 about caring for our pets and
how to safely approach pets. It was an interesting and interactive presentation which also included Gina’s dog Cruze.

CLASSROOM TEACHER As a pre-schooler I would go to school with my Aunty at Adamstown Heights PS, it was so much fun. I loved all of my infants teachers and remember what wonderful role models they were to the students in their class. From an early age I would often play games where I had a classroom set up and would teach my sister and cousins. My teaching career began at Moree and then on to Narrabri. I moved to Coffs Harbour in 2000 to begin my "adult life "and became the mum to three children. I have a 17 year old daughter, Ella and a 14 year old boy, Jordan, who keep me super busy. I am eager to experience new places, people and opportunities through camping, travelling overseas and exploring the beautiful local area. Attending F45 and walks along the beaches keeps my body, soul and mind active. I love being a part of the Tyalla school community and making a difference in our students’ education. This year I am on a delightful Year 1 class who bubble over with enthusiasm. It makes me smile to see their beautiful faces arrive at school eager to learn.

Learned information about reptiles in Term 1. This term we are practising our descriptive writing
and storytelling.
To help us we had some real reptiles visit from Reptile World. Here is what some of the students
wrote afterwards.
‘At school my class saw some reptiles because Adam brought them. Some of my class got to pat
the baby crocodile but some didn’t have to touch them. Today we saw a black headed snake. I felt
happy because we got to touch them. The baby crocodile had sharp teeth, by Astarli.
‘On Tuesday we met Adam out of Reptile World in the classroom. I saw a baby crocodile and I saw a big snake. It was heavy’, by
Chloe.
‘Today Adam from Reptile World came to class. Damon had a green tree snake on his arm. I was scared. It was fun. It was cool’
by Kailey.
‘Me and Jimmy got to touch a crocodile and we got to touch a snake today. We got to hug a fat snake and Jimmy got to pat a
black headed snake. I got to be a tree and the snake got to climb on me’, by Damon.
