Dear Parish Family,

I hope your summer is going well.

Next weekend Rev. Fernand Caindec will be making a Mission appeal at all the masses next weekend

for the Diocese of Sorsogon in the Philippines. See the announcement in the bulletin.

As we prepare for September and review all our weekend ministries especially our children’s ministries please consider be-

coming a minister for Kidzone and Children’s Word. Also consider being a minister welcome center and the Café. All you

need is a friendly smile. You will be hearing a lot more regarding service and the Next Step in the weeks ahead.

Have you ever approached a hushed group and were certain they were talking about you? It’s an uncomfortable feeling to

catch people murmuring about what you did, said, or didn’t do. It breeds division and exclusion. In today’s Gospel, Jesus

invites us to just the opposite.

The reading opens with the crowds “murmuring” their doubts about Jesus after he has proclaimed himself the Bread of

Life. “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph … how can he say ‘I have come down from heaven’?” In his response, Jesus brings up the

Israelites and the manna God brought them in the desert. If you turn back to the story in Exodus, you’ll see another similar

word: murmuring. As the going got tough, the Israelites doubted Moses and God’s plan to protect and care for them as a cho-

sen people. Here, Jesus proposes a difficult theological concept. Jesus himself is “the living bread” and “flesh for the life of the

world.”

This is not an exclusive concept. “Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me.” Why? Because “the Fa-

ther who sent me draw[s] him.” The next time you’re at Mass, take a few moments to watch the communion line. Young and

old, families and singles, diverse races and cultures and stories … we are all drawn to the Eucharistic table. Catholic doctr ine

may require faith, but it is a faith possible for anyone who seeks truth. Christianity does not hide behind locked doors in an

exclusive clubhouse, whispering behind the backs of nonbelievers. Jesus compels us to share the love of God the Father for

his children, that we one day be joined with Him and “live forever.”

Have a great week!

See you on the weekend.

Fr. Andrew

August 5th Collection: $13,646.00

Jesus knows that our stewardship journey will be difficult; we are not designed to

do it on our own. Fortunately, Jesus gave us the greatest gift of all – the gift of the

Eucharist; His own body and blood. When we join our sacrifices with the

sacrifice of the Mass, we find the strength and courage to be His joyful disciples.

The Annual Catholic Appeal is integral to the mission and

services of the Diocese of Trenton. To date we have raised

$26,732.00 of our $61,498.00 goal.

A gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal supports:

Administrative oversight and leadership training affects

about 40,000 students who are enrolled in parish based

Religious Ed classes.

Diocesan support and resources for pastors, parish clergy, staff, ministry leaders and families are provided due

to the gifts that come into the Annual Catholic Appeal each year.

“Together in Mission” which is a tool to support evangelization for all age groups at the parishes.

Because of your support, Clergy personnel ministry brings in and provides support to priests, deacons and reli-

gious so that parishes have assistance in providing for their parishioners pastoral and spiritual needs.

Your support helps the Office of Vocations provide discernment opportunities, encouragement, support, edu-

cation and resources for those considering a call to the priesthood.

Your gift funds Catholic Social Service programs like Diocesan Parish Counseling Services, Parish Emergency

Assistance Program (PEAP), Diocesan Social Service Workshops, Home Health Nursing through Mt. Carmel

Guild, and Emergency Assistance through Mt. Carmel Guild.

You can make your gift to the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal by completing a card found at the entrance tables &

the doors leading into the worship space, by mailing a gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal at 701 Lawrenceville Rd.

Trenton, NJ 08648, or by visiting the website at www.dioceseoftrenton.org/catholicappeal.
