Calling all devotional writers! (And even those of you who do not consider yourselves writers but have a story to tell . . .) Upper Room Books is creating two new undated devotional booklets for Emmaus (Fourth Day Forward) and Chrysalis (Taking Flight). We need your help! The booklets will each be based on the 15 Talk topics from the Walks and the Flights (see below). Which one could you write about?

Daily meditations should be 150-250 words long. May include scripture verse or suggested text (state version of Bible used) Deadline: July 1, 2010 or before. Email Robin Pippin or send mail to her at Upper Room Books, 1908 Grand Avenue, Nashville, TN 37212. If we choose to use your meditation, we will notify you before publication.

Some Tips for Writing:

Devotional writing should invite people to come closer to God.

Devotional writing should tell about real experiences of real people who are strug-gling to apply their faith to daily life.

Devotional writing should express only one main idea. It should leave one memorable image with the reader.

Devotional writing should lead persons into further conversation with God after they finish reading the meditation.

Your journal can be a great source of devotional writing because it records your real thoughts about your experiences.

Thanks for sharing your gifts with Chrysalis and Emmaus!

I would like to thank everyone who

helped in the kitchen, made the special

desserts, ran errands and prayed for

the weekends! A special thank you to

those of you who dropped what you

were doing and came when called; you

truly demonstrated a servant spirit! It

was an honor and a privilege to work

with so many wonderful people who

served so willingly and with such car-

ing! I look forward to working with

you again.

BULLETINS BOARD from the

Emmaus Servanthood, Child Care

& Monthly Gatherings!

What do they share in common?

The Lowcountry Emmaus Community

provides child care at all monthly Gather-

ings. The Community needs volunteers

for child care who are Safe Sanctuary ap-

proved in their local church. If you are

one of these and are willing to provide

child care at a Gathering from time to

time, please contact me at 843-873-1037

or by email at [email protected] so

that you can be added to the list of those

who will provide this act of servanthood.

FROM THE REGISTRAR...

Do you know someone already on a pilgrimage – one who desires to continue growing and moving forward in their faith, one who knows God can make and has made a difference in their life? Would you like to give that person a gift – a gift that keeps on giving? The gift of the Walk to Emmaus is available. The Fall Walks are fast approaching and the dates are

set: Men October 7-10, 2010 and Women October 21-24, 2010.

Pray for God to reveal to you the name of the person you can sponsor and share this won-

derful gift with.

Please contact me by phone or email and I will help you with your gift. Let’s get started

early and have our Fall Walks full.

REPORT FROM THE RECORDS COMMITTEE

The Lowcountry Emmaus (LCE) has been planning for a couple of years to utilize IMS-Emmaus/Chrysalis Data Gath-ering Guide which is an all-inclusive web server to record all functions of our local Emmaus. The first step will in-clude conversion of all community members into this system. This conversion will be accomplished in a couple of ways. Shortly, we will send IMS the email addresses from our newsletter to start the conversion process. The system needs first name, last name and email address for the conversion to be completed. Then all members will be able to log on the web server and update their personal information. We will have more on that later on. This system, when fully operational, will include members, his-torical walks, team positions, willing ser- vants (volunteers), prayer vigils, churches, walk applications and a lot more. IMS stands for Internet Member-ship Systems, Inc. They currently have 80 Emmaus/Chrysalis communities.

This is an exciting time for our community implementing this system and we need your help to make this transition go smoothly and quickly. If you are asked to fill out a paper membership or go online and complete the membership information, please do so ASAP.

Blessings,

Dave Cunha, Records Chairman

Proposed Amendment to the BylawsProposed Amendment to the BylawsProposed Amendment to the Bylaws

The LCE Board of Directors proposes amending the bylaws to move the specific list of committees from Article V, Sec-

tion I, to the Standing Rules. This section of the bylaws will then read: “The Board of Directors shall name Board

members to chair such standing committees as the standing rules shall specify, upon recommendation of the Lay

Director.” (The entire text of the bylaws is available on the community website.)

The reason for this change is to make it possible for the Board to rearrange the assignment of tasks to committees from

time to time. This will help us better balance the work load between committees and allow the Board to respond to new

tasks that need to be done without having to go through the three-month process of amending the bylaws every time we

need to change the name of a committee.

The change has been approved by the Board and will go into effect 60 days after publication in this issue of the newslet-

ter unless there is objection from 25 or more members of the community.
