    Statement of the first Women's Committee Congress Of the

    Federation of Trade Unions-Burma (FTUB)

    1. The first Congress of the Women Committee of Federation of Trade Unions-Burma was held on the Burma border from 24th to 26th of December 2011. The

    Congress was attended by (16) representatives from inside Burma, the India

    Burma border, Thai- Burma Border and Japan together with (2) legal advisors.

    2. The congress discussed the following issues:(a) reports on the situation presented by the women representatives

    (b) developments concerning the formation of workers and farmers' inlandunions and organizational matters.

    (c) political situation in Burma, internal working conditions, problems faced

    by migrant workers, the challenges of the enlistment of workers' rights andpromotion of the improvement of their living conditions and response to their

    need.(d) the legal opportunities under current Labor Organization Law.

    (e) the work plans to be implemented during the first congress term.

    3. Regarding the FTUB programs and policies to implement the aims of the

    women's committee, the following decisions have been adopted:

    (a) The establishment of independent trade unions in Burma which willpromote means and rules to enable full women workers participation in the

    trade union life and activities.(b) Burmese Trade Unions engagement in the promotion of Trade Union

    Rights, Workers' Rights, human rights and democratic rights, will include the

    promotion of high women participation and leadership role.

    (c) The commitment for women's participation in knowledge increment,education, health, maternity protection, economic and social affairs, as prioritiesof the Trade Union action.

    (d) Full Trade Union commitment for elimination of discrimination against

    women workers at work place and in the society.(e) To encourage women mental expression and work according to their

    belief and adaptation.

    (f) In cooperation with recognized organizations and regional legal experts toprotect women workers in accordance with the laws.

    (g) To create equal conditions and and recognition of workers' rights fordomestic workers.

    (h) To raise awareness for the women workers on the international labor

    standard and to achieve the rights according to such international labor standard.(i) To work together with international labour organizations such as the

    ILO, ITUC, ITUC AP, AFL-CIO, CISL, NZCTU, JTUC, etc......

    4. The Executive committee members who will lead the women committee were

    elected by the women representatives on the basis of democratic principles toimplement the programs during its first congress term. The Executive
