Dear GSSA Members,Representing you as your new GSSA Secretary-Treasurer and GJSA

Advisor is both an honor and a privilege. With big shoes to fill I can only tell you I will work hard to promote the breed I have loved and raised since I was a young child.

As I write this my family and I are in College Station, TX for the XXXIV AJSA National Classic. We visited many sites while in College Station including the George Bush Presidential Library. The library is an awesome tour for a history buff. It includes both President and Barbara Bush’s family roots, the Gulf War era, a replica dive bomber, a hunk of the Berlin Wall and the Oval office. You can even sit in the Oval office chair. This was a great tour for our family. We also visited the sexing technologies clinic on the Texas A&M Campus. The AJSA members were able to ask questions and learn about new advances in cattle reproduction.

During opening ceremonies at the AJSA Classic Mr. Colin Woodall, NCBA addressed the crowd. He serves as NCBA’s chief lobbyist on Capitol Hill and leads the Washington, DC office in developing strategies to ensure that the cattle industries voice is being heard by policy makers. He spoke of the fact that we as producers are the main face for the industry and encouraged the youth; as well as, adults to represent on a positive front. He told the crowd to never back down and continue to represent this great industry. Mr. Woodall left the crowd with the thought provoking question, “What message can you share about beef?” This welcoming address sparked a fire in many of the juniors and adults to start sharing about their involvement in the beef industry.

In closing, we all love this industry and it provides our families; as well as, others in our great nation with beef and beef by-products. We need to continue to prove that we are caregivers, just as one would care for an elder parent we care for our beef herds. Speak up for Beef Producers!

Donna, GSSA Secretary/Treasurer

GSSA Members,

Our association is growing by leaps and bounds and it is a great time to be a Simmental producer. Please join us at this years annual meeting and banquet on August 21, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. Also plan to attend the Generations of Value Sale on August 22, 2015 at Partisover Ranch. Simgenetics will help improve any herd whether purebred or commercial operation.

Cole Elrod, GSSA President

ASA News for the Commercial Cattleman

Director of Commercial and Industry Operations: Will Townsend: The Commercial Option for Total Herd Enrollment, THE Option DDr. Shafer, Courtney Wesner, Janine Story, and Director, Will Townsend have been further developing THE Option D. The program was developed in 2014 as the commercial cattleman’s option to input data and receive EPDs and indexes on their females and a group average on their males for the $500 Option D enrollment which includes the $160 ASA membership. A win-win situation for the commercial cattlemen and beneficial to the ASA’s ever growing database. The most recent changes include a $1/head input fee for the cowherd as well as offering a rebate for carcass data submitted on Option D herds.
