1. WHAT DO YOU WANT TO STUDY AT UNIVERSITY? Selecting a program and institute takes time and consideration. If you have an idea of what you want to study, you should to think about the type of ‘credential’ you want to achieve in Canada. Do you want to graduate with a diploma or a bachelor’s degree? Also think about the different types of education: in general college education is more applied and prepares you for a specific career, whereas university degrees are more academically focused.

2. HOW TO PREPARE YOUR ENGLISH AT KAPLAN Part of University Placement Service is a free pre-test to determine your level of English. Based on this assessment, Kaplan International estimates the time you need to improve your English to the required level for admission into university or college. Almost all our partners accept completed Kaplan International levels for admission into their programs.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR UNIVERSITY OR COLLEGE

YOUR ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC PATHWAYS PROGRAMYour program will consist of a combination of General English and a Specific Skills class. Once you reach the Intermediate level, you have the option to change your General English classes to IELTS Intensive classes. All students must take the English for Academic Pathways (EAP) Specific Skills class upon reaching the Higher Intermediate level.

Students can apply before or after their English course start date. However, there is a minimum of 8 weeks’ enrollment required. If you know before arriving at Kaplan that you want to apply for UPS, we'll start helping you right away. If you decide to use UPS once you arrive, you'll sit down for an information session with an advisor who will take you through all the steps.

HOW TO APPLY1. Send the completed UPS inquiry form along

with a copy of your transcripts to your Kaplan Representative

2. Receive a personalized list of programs at partner institutions and help selecting

one based on your English level, grades, future objectives, and preferred study location

3. Choose your university or college and let your Kaplan Representative know

4. Kaplan International will apply to one of the partner institutes on your behalf

5. Receive your Conditional Letter of Acceptance (CLA); this may take 4-12 weeks to receive

Upon completion of a minimum 5 weeks of the English for Academic Pathways Program and passing the required level test (see partner list for level transfer requirements), you will be issued the English for Academic Pathways Certificate for transfer to one of our partners!

Canada offers international students the opportunity to work during their studies and after graduating. The following information is an overview of options. To ensure you understand the requirements, please visit the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website. IRCC is the department responsible for immigration to Canada and for issuing study permits and student work permits. WORK WHILE YOU STUDY* *You are eligible once you start at college or university

WHO IS IT FOR?

• Full-time student at public college or university or a private school that offers degree programs under provincial law• Must have a valid study permit• Must have a valid study permit and Social Insurance Number (SIN)• No work permit required

• Full-time student at a DLI in a program of min. 6 months leading to a certificate, diploma or degree• Must have a valid study permit• Must have a valid study permit and Social Insurance Number (SIN)• No work permit required

• If work is a key part of your study program and you have a letter from your school in Canada confirming your co-op/ internship is 50% or less of the total program and mandatory to graduate• Must have a valid study permit and co-op work permit

On-campus means all the buildings on the college/university campus grounds

Off-campus for up to 20hrs per week during regular school sessions and fulltime during scheduled breaks such as winter and summer breaks

WHO IS IT FOR?

HOW LONG IS YOUR WORK PERMIT? Depending on the length of your program, your post-graduate work permit may be issued for 8 months up to maximum 3 years.
