The timing for crucial conversations on advancing Canada-Africa commercial relations, particularly in the agriculture sector, has never been more important.

Canada is a world leader in agriculture and agri-food, with cutting-edge expertise in sustainable farming, research, innovation, technology, food and beverage processing, aquaculture, logistics hubs, trade and market development, among others.

The food processing sector is expected to account for a signi�cant portion of the ongoing industrial expansion in Africa. Africa alone is expected to contribute more than half of the 2.4 billion increase in global population by 2050, while the continent’s food and beverages sub-sector is expected to reach $1 trillion in value by 2030. Therefore, the ability to grow and access nutritious and sustainable food will be critical in the coming years. This presents a huge opportunity for both jurisdictions to work together and harness possibilities across the value chain.

The Canada-Africa Agriculture Summit is being jointly organized by the Sprott Centre for African Research and Business at Carleton University, and the Global Economic Institute for Africa – in partnership with Global Affairs Canada, Canada’s Farm Show and other Canadian and pan-African institutions. Every year, the Farm Show brings more than 30,000 producers, manufacturers, buyers and industry experts together for a global summit of innovation in dryland farming, technology, business, modern living and entertainment.

The Summit is aimed at providing industry practitioners, agribusiness owners, research scientists, innovators, entrepreneurs, policymakers, business leaders, thought leaders and top diplomats with a good understanding of the opportunities in the Canada-Africa agriculture value chain. At the end of the Summit, participants are expected to establish new contacts, as well as gain valuable insights that will assist them in mapping agriculture-speci�c commercial opportunities across the heterogenous markets in both jurisdictions.

To diversify successfully, small and medium-sized enterprises require a nuanced understanding of where the opportunities lie, and how to successfully break into global and regional value chains. The Summit offers participants unparalleled opportunities to network, visit agricultural facilities and institutions, develop commercial partnerships and gain latest insights on trending issues.

A special feature of the Summit is the Canada-Africa Agriculture Projects Database (CAAPD). The CAAPD provides summary information on major opportunities in the Canadian and African agriculture and agri-food sectors. The purpose of the CAAPD is to enable pre-summit interactions between African delegates and Canadian suppliers, scientists, innovators and other key players in the entire value chain.

This event will treat delegates to refreshments and the best of Canadian hospitality.

Post-Summit Tours and Business MeetingsAt the end of the Summit on Tuesday, interested delegates will participate in business-to-business meetings and a tour to explore Canadian farming operations, food processing facilities, ag. and farm equipment manufacturing plants, logistics hubs, analytical equipment, research infrastructure and teaching facilities. This tour is aimed at helping the visiting delegation visualize the entire ag. value chain, in addition to taking advantage of targeted meeting with participants at the Farm Show – an annual event which brings more than 30,000 producers, manufacturers, buyers and industry experts together for a global summit of innovation in dryland farming, technology, business, modern living and entertainment.

The Summit is aimed principally at establishing and consolidating Canada-Africa business networks in the agriculture and agri-food industry. It is therefore intended as a two-day event, followed by site visits and tours. The African delegates are also expected to take advantage of the Summit to meet with targeted partners at the Farm Show. Featuring attendees and engaged investors, under one roof, this is a unique opportunity to validate your existing market, gain brand visibility, showcase your capabilities and discover new opportunities.
