Baptisms:

Отже, свята Церква бажає, щоб і ми, наближаючись до

Великого посту, готувалися до нього великою покорою

та свідомістю нашої гріховності, бо тільки тоді буде в

нас добра воля до скрухи серця, посту й покаяння. Без

покори нема навернення, нема жалю за гріхи й нема

повернення до Бога.

«Тікаймо від фарисеєвої хвальби, – сказано в кондаці, –

і навчімося митаревої величі слів смиренних, і кличмо у

покаянні: Спасителю світу, очисти рабів Твоїх.

Вітаємо парафіян та прихожан

Собору Св. Йосафата!

Нехай Господь благословить Вас за участь і молитву!

Притча про митаря і фарисея; духовне значення

Ця притча свідчить, що Господь Бог не дивиться на

особу чи її стан, але дивиться на її серце й душу. Тут

розуміємо правдивість слів Святого Письма, в якому

сказано: «... Бог гордим противиться, а покірливим дає

благодать» (1 Пт 5, 5).

Тож зрозуміло, що Бог не прийняв молитви

чванькуватого й гордого фарисея, зате вислухав

молитву покірного митаря. Гордість належить до

головних гріхів і є найбільшою перепоною до

навернення і покаяння, а покора – це початок

справжнього навернення і основа правдивого

покаяння й посту.

Кожної суботи під час Великого Посту ми

молимося за душі спочилих у Бозі. Якщо ви

знаходиться в вестибюлі Собору, і впишіть там імена

ВОЛОНТЕРИ ПІД ЧАС РИБНИХ ОБІДІВ

Парафіяльний проект "Рибні Обіди" - один з

найбільших проектів року, який розпочнеться під час

Великого посту, кожної п’ятниці, починаючи з 16 лютого

від 4-ої години до 7:00 вечора, під час якого ми можемо

укріпити фінансове становище парафії. Сотні людей

звідусіль приходять до нас кожного року під час обідів,

люблячи нашу смачну кухню, широкий простір у залі і

так далі. Наші "Рибні Обіди" мають добру славу серед

людей і це спричинює більший дохід кожного року, але

щоб обслужити всіх людей потрібно більше праці і

наших рук. Багато з вас допомагали своїй парафії і

продовжують це робити вже багато років. Запрошуємо

всіх без винятку прийти і допомогти нам цього року.

Спитаймо себе, якщо не я, тоді хто має це робити. Нашої

роботи за нас ніхто не може зробити. Під час

Великопосного часу практикуймо милосердя,

допоможімо тим, хто є у великій потребі. Прийдімо, хоч

би на короткий час. Будь ласка, вписуйте свої імена в

лист волонтерів, що знаходиться в вестибюлі. ПЕЧИВО ДЛЯ РИБНИХ ОБІДІВ

Складовою рибних обідів є печиво. Тому

знову, як і минулого року просимо Вас, дорогі наші

жінки, пекти ваше улюблене печиво і приносити до

початку рибних обідів в Астродом, як запоруку успіху.

WORLD MARRIAGE DAY World Marriage Day takes place on February 11, 2018.

It is an observance sponsored by the Catholic Marriage

Encounter movement observed on the second Sunday

of February each year. “World Marriage Day honors husband

and wife as the foundation of the family, the basic unit of society.

It salutes the beauty of their faithfulness, sacrifice and joy in

daily married life.”

Bishop Bohdan Danylo in conjunction with the Department of

Family Life of the Eparchy of St. Josaphat would like to

recognize and honor the couples of our parish who are

celebrating 10, 25, 40, 50 or 60 years of marriage in 2018.

Please inform the parish office of the date of your anniversary

and how many years you are celebrating no later than January

18th, 2018 so that we can report the information to the Chancery

Office. FESTIVAL COMMITTEE MEETING

There will be a St. Josaphat festival committee meeting

on Monday, January 22, 2018, at 7:00 pm in the Men’s

Club Room.

MEN’S CLUB MEETING

Presentation Icons and New Year’s Welcome on Wednesday

January 24 at 7 PM in Men’s Club Room:

On Wednesday January 24 deacon Jeffrey will give a

presentation to the members of the Men’s Club about the

different icons that are going to be installed in the Cathedral.

After this presentation at approx. 7.30 till 9 PM the Men’s Club

will host a New Year’s Welcome with drinks and snacks. We

invite Men’s Club members “old” and “new” members as well as

parishioners to attend the presentation of Deacon Jeffery and in

doing so learn more about the new icons in the cathedral and

learn more about the activities of the Men’s Club as part of their

role to make St. Josaphat a “vibrant” parish.

COMMEMORATION OF THE DECEASED:

SOROKOUSTY

On Saturdays during the Great Fast (Lent), we pray

for all those who have fallen asleep in the Lord. If you

would like to request that your departed loved ones be

remembered by name during the services, special envelopes are

available on the table in the Cathedral vestibule. If you had already

given the names last year, there is no need to write all the names on

the envelope since we have the lists from last year. If all the

names are the same, please print “SAME AS LAST YEAR” and

add any additional names you wish. Please print your name at

the bottom of the envelope. You may drop the envelopes in the

Thursday, February 15, 2018. EVENING OF PRAYER & REFLECTION The Department of Family Life of the Eparchy of St. Josaphat

will sponsor an evening of prayer and reflection in preparation

for the celebration of the Great Lent on Friday, February 9, 2018

Church, Parma, Ohio. The Prayer Service will be followed by

ANNOUNCEMENTS – JANUARY 21, 2018

We welcome all visitors and parishioners to our Cathedral

May the Lord God bless us as we gather in prayer.

The tax collector went home justified; not so the Pharisee

[Luke 18:14]

O God, be merciful to me, a sinner. Sirach 35 is a perfect

companion piece to the Gospel parable. In one striking image

from Sirach, the writer talks about "the prayer of the lowly,

piercing the clouds to reach the unseen throne of God.” Such

prayers are heard because they come from the hearts of people

who know how much they need God. Although God has no

favorites and answers the prayers of all, the oppressed, the

orphans, the widows, and those who can least help themselves

are His special concern. The best prayer is humble and selfless

service. Paul, a former Pharisee [2 Timothy 4], humbly

acknowledges his work as accomplished by the grace of God,

and he thanks God for enabling him to fight a good battle -- to

run a good race while keeping his Faith intact and proclaiming

it. In Luke 18, about the Pharisee and the tax collector, Jesus

reminds us that God hears the prayers those who approach

Him in humility with a repentant heart. God did not hear the

prayer of the Pharisee because he exalted himself. His prayer

was a prayer of thanksgiving that he was not as evil as other

people. He announced to God his freedom from sin and

detailed his fidelity in observing the prescribed fast and in

giving tithes. The tax collector’s prayer, “O God, be merciful to

me, a sinner,” was heard because he humbled himself,

acknowledging his sins and requesting God’s mercy.

MEN’S CLUB COFFEE GATHERINGS

The St. Josaphat Men’s Club will be sponsoring coffee

gatherings in the Men’s Club Room each Sunday after

the Divine Liturgies. All are invited to stop in for

coffee and fellowship.

FISH FRY PROJECT—VOLUNTEERS

NEEDED

This year again we will be holding a Fish Fry every Friday

during the Great Fast (Lent) beginning on February 16th from

4:00PM until 7: PM. Mark your calendars and bring your

families and friends to enjoy delicious meals and fellowship

while supporting your parish. A VOLUNTEER SIGN-UP SHEET WILL BE IN THE

CHURCH VESTIBULE SOON. Please stop and sign-up to help

your parish. Our Fish Fry Project is one of the largest fundraising projects

of the year. This is a very successful project. Every year we

have hundreds of people coming every Friday to enjoy our

delicious fish dinner. Our fish fry has acquired a good

reputation in the community and it grows every year. That

requires more work and workers. Many of you have been

helping us faithfully for many years, and we are grateful for

your help and dedication. We invite you to come and help us

again this year.

For those who have not helped in the past, our request is that

you offer some of your time and work to help us, as an ACT

OF ALMSGIVING. Please, come and offer a few hours of your

time to support our Fish Fry Project.

FISH FRY BAKERY NEEDED

We rely on your help to make our Fish Fry a

successful event. Bakery will be needed for each

Friday’s Fish Fry. We ask the ladies again to bake and deliver

their bakery donations to the Astrodome each Friday prior to

the beginning of the Fish Fry. Last year you were very

generous and the bakery, as always, was delicious.

The parish needs your help. We ask all

parishioners who have the time, to donate a few

hours to help our parish with our pyrohy project.
