PASTOR’S POTPOURRI – OPEN OUR HEARTS

Advent tells us to go forward. Hope is always in the fu-ture. Tradition points the way but can change in the face of surprises. God is free to do new things and the biggest surprise of all is that God consults us and invites us to create the future together.

A fresh spirit is upon us. Advent is about renewal and adaptation. We are pregnant with the future, and so birth is inevitable, bringing both tribulation and joy. We can only go forward.

Tuesday of this week is December 8th. Pope Francis will open the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica to begin the YEAR OF MERCY for the Church. He has invited us to get beyond the thickets of judgment and conflict that have characterized our Church for too long. He speaks of pilgrimage, of missionaries of mercy, of forgiveness through the sacrament and in our personal relationships, of delving into the scriptures to recover the radical message of mercy. “Mercy” is our nametag for the year, our passport to freedom from old wounds, unfinished business, resentments and revenge that have stifled our souls. Time to let go and let God sort out the blame and heal the hurts so everyone can move on. As we celebrate the Holy Day of Mary’s Immaculate Con-ception, may she open our hearts to Advent and to the mercy Jesus was born to give to the world. (Excerpts from CELEBRATION…2015)

PENANCE SERVICE

Our Advent Penance Service will be on Wednesday evening, December 16th, be-ginning at 7:00 P.M. We will have a num-ber of confessors available. Give yourself this Advent gift of mercy.

A Big Thank You to all our current Liturgical Ministers, with-out your help our Liturgy would be lacking. An ideal number of Extra Ordinary Ministers of Holy Eucharist (EME’s) would be enough people to cover a three week period without repeating. This would mean we would have 30 EME’s at 5:00pm, 18 at 7:00am, and 36 at the 9:00 and 11:00am Masses. We are also very short on Greeters, Ushers and Lectors at all the Masses.

Please contact Deacon Mike at the Community Center with any questions.

Wednesday morning Bible Class has completed the series on St. Paul's first letter to the Corinthians. On December 9th we will have our annual Christmas soup party. We will watch the “The Story of the Nativity” told by several of the teachers of the Catholic Biblical

School. Bring a can of soup (please no cream soup) to share. We will meet at 9 a.m. all are welcome.

After the holidays we’ll study St. Paul's second letter to the Corinthians. Watch the Bulletin for the starting date. If you have

any questions call 303-233-3372

The Prayer list will be updated Dec. 9th. If you would like to keep your names on this

list please call the office.

Did you Know?

The tradition of Jubilee Years started 700 years ago. There have been 26 Jubi-lee Years. The Year of Mercy is an “extraordinary” Jubilee Year. Extraordinary Jubi-lee Years are less frequent (this is only the third), but offer the same opportunity for spiritual growth.

Don’t forget to come and celebrate the beginning of this Jubilee Year of Mercy on December 8th! Also, be sure to pull out and use the “Prayers for the Jubilee Year” found in this bulletin.

How will you celebrate this Jubilee Year of Mercy in your home?

P.S. Don’t forget that December 12 is the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Under this title, Mary is the patroness of the Americas.
