Johnny Appleseed Days brought in two groups, from Roseville and Oakhurst. They had nothing but high praises for the current work to the park. While they were here they participated in our Wednesday night dinner, Friday’s lunch and dinner , Saturday’s

hot dogs and chili rounding their stay off with our Fizz breakfast with a few attending our Sunday Bingo. We accommodated their stay by opening up our Lodge to them on Saturday night for their Potluck and game night. Again many thanks to Ken Fossan for his willingness to be the volunteer bartender. We have another group coming in the first part of November. Respectfully submitted by Vikki Isham The RV Lady

On September 24, 2016, Anthony Lindsey II was given the Eagle Scout Charge and Oath at the Paradise Elks Lodge #2026. He is a member of BSA Troop 316. His project was to place a flag pole and landscape the front entrance to the Paradise Town Hall. Pictured left to right are Jan Keller, PDDGER, and Anthony Lindsey II with the Elk Certificate and Flag that had been presented during the ceremony.

Wagon: Mistress Gloria Long Treasurer....Vikki Isham Call of the Ridge...Linda Martin Happy Thanksgiving Well it looks like fall is finally here. The trees are all changing color and very beautiful. So happy for the rain this week. The meeting was held October 10th at 10 am. There was much discussion regarding up coming events. They decided one day trips would be fun. They planned a one day trip to Apple Hill. Hope all had a great time and enjoyed the apple pie. Other trips could be to Sacramento for concerts or plays. They are looking into a bus trip to San Francisco before the holidays. The first planned trip for 2017 is to Rancheria near Burney. We Have 7 rigs signed up so far. If you are interested call Ray Martin at 873-3857. Shawn and Steve Davis have graciously agreed to host this years Christmas Party. It will be held December 17th. Fall is in full swing with the changing color of the leaves and soon the trees will slowly drift off to sleep for the winter. In the meantime we are in full swing for our Elks Women’s Club “Fall for Bunco” scholarship fundraiser November 12th. So please gather your family and friends and come joy in on the fun.

Gayle reported on her successful Art and Jewelry show. Her vendors were so happy to be a part of this event that they’ve requested a “Do it Again Next year” Gayle said she would.

Our November 4th lunch meeting will jump start us into the holidays with a Turkey lunch and fixing’s Yum!

Did you know that two of our Elk Ladies Leslie Dolan our lodge secretary and Tammi Yasmine Fabris are long time Belly Dancers. Leslie started study in 1997 and Tammi in 1996. They both have enjoyed entertaining at many of our communities’ events throughout the year and gracefully agreed to come entertain us. Husbands, partners and friends are invited. Just let your caller know.

Reminder our December lunch has changed to a Christmas a $13 Tri tip dinner on December 9th with the Paradise Community 35 Piece Band for our entertainment for the evening. Again, we encourage you to bring husbands, partners and friends.

Vikki Isham 1st Vice President

Recently ER Jan asked me to contact a lady by the name of Judy. Judy was asking for help from the Elks. You see Judy has been helping an older lady, but not just any ordinary lady. This lady happened to be a Disabled Veteran. I don’t really don’t know the circumstances of this lady other than she needed our help. Judy had been working with the Veterans office to help obtain section 8 housing for the older lady. It finally came through. It was a very small place but still it needed some furniture. I contacted Renee Tanner our yard sale chairperson explaining the situation. Renee told me to have Judy contact her which she did. Renee was able to help her with a couch and chair. I just received a text message from Judy explaining how impressed with the Elks she and her husband were and how her friend Janica was very pleased with her furniture. Judy went on thanking Jan, Renee and myself for helping Janica. You see, we the Elks were the only service organization who responded to her call and who stepped into to help. Janica has some other basic needs that the yard sale didn’t have so Renee assures me she will contact them as things come available for them to come pick up. Everyday I’m proud to be an Elk but more so when we can lend a hand to others.

Respectfully submitted by Vikki Isham Veteran Affairs Chairman

CHEF

Stephen William Gentile

During the past three months the Lodge has experienced several issues in and around the kitchen and meal service due to the turn over in the cooks. I think we have found a good fit for our Lodge when we hired Chef Stephen. He comes to us with a varied background and a vast array of culinary experiences.

Chef Stephen William Gentile attended the United States Navy School of Cooking and proudly served our country for four years cooking on several naval vessels for Admirals, Ship’s Captains and Officers. Following his service in the Navy he attended the Cornell School of Restaurant and Hotel Management. He also holds a Degree from Culinary Institute of America (CIA), Hyde Park New York. Following his graduation he interned at New York City’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel and worked there for four years.

Some of the more notable restaurants where he held the position of Executive Chef are: Victoria Station, Boston MA.; CC Makay Restaurant, New York City; Embassy Suites Boston and New York; Sausalito South Restaurant, Manhattan Beach CA. He also worked 20 years with the San Francisco Chronicle where he scheduled, coordinated and oversaw all their food and wine events.

Stephen has many new and fresh ideas for our Lodge banquets, dinners and lunches. Be sure to come down to the Lodge for lunch or dinner, meet Stephen and have a meal. I'm sure you will enjoy it. We are currently in the process of revising our Lodge menus to better conform with his specialties, talents and expertise. Being trained in the north east his specialties run in the sea foods and award winning clam chowder. He holds records for serving prime rib and rib eye steaks. We hope to see you soon at the Lodge for a meal.

Another successful sale! Thank you so much to all the volunteers, with a special thanks to Pam, Vernice, Jeannie, and Patti for their extraordinary help. And to all the folks who donated goods, we appreciate your generosity! I am planning a Christmas Boutique sometime around the first week of November, featuring all the beautiful decorations that were donated. Watch for signs and flyers, or check Facebook for more information.

A huge THANK YOU from the Elks Lodge to Renee Tanner (left), yard sale super woman, for another successful sale! Many volunteers come together to make our sales successful.

I cannot believe this is my last ER Article. As the saying goes, “Time Flies

when you’re Having Fun!” We had an eventful October and there are lots of

pictures of the fun we had.

The Yard Sale once again was a success. Thank you to the volunteers that

worked very hard prior to and during the event. Our Spaghetti dinner for

the firefighters, police, VIPS and California Conservation Corps was well –

received. Sixty four of them and family members had plenty of spaghetti,

Caesar salad, garlic bread and chocolate brownie sundaes in gratitude for

all they did during the “Saddle Fire.” Charter Room Open House gave us the opportunity to thank all

those that worked on it and to have some fun with a nice band, appetizers and champagne. The

“Zumbathon for Alzheimer's” that we co-sponsored with Atria was the first annual – so good we need to

do it again!

This month has a lot of events also – Fizz Breakfast, Children’s Christmas Potluck, Chamber of

Commerce Ribbon Cutting for the Community to see our terrific rooms and especially the newly

remodeled Charter Room.

We have a new Chef Stephen and take a look at his resume. His Clam Chowder and Fish & Chips are a

sellout on Fridays for lunch or dinner. He even has a terrific Fish Platter. Thank you to everyone who

stepped up to keep us going especially Bobbi Dunivan-Elder who cooked, and Alex who stepped up and

filled in also. We are also back serving lunches Tuesday – Friday. We heard you, so please now support

us in making it work.

We also are revamping Bingo – on November 6th we will be starting Bingo at a much earlier time –Doors

will open at 1:30 p.m. and the ball drops at 2:30 p.m. This will help our Bingo players and volunteers get

home in time for dinner. We are hoping for more players and volunteers with the new hours also.

Bingo generates all of our Elks charity monies which are used for scholarships and community services

(Boys & Girls Club, Youth for Change, Little League, Scouts, Veteran’s, etc.)! Try it you’ll like it!

There will be no Pizza and Pasta this month as it is on Thanksgiving weekend and December Fizz is the

second Sunday in December.

Finally, thank you for your support! Not going away – just making room for Henri Brachais, who will

take us to April 1. He is busy planning a great New Year’s Party with Cottonwood and a fabulous menu

by our new Chef. Have a Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours

On November 17th at 5:15 pm the Paradise Chamber of

Commerce is holding a ribbon cutting in the Charter Room

celebrating it's remodel. Perfect place for your next meeting,

party or wedding reception. Appetizers and refreshments will be

featured. Members are welcome and encouraged to attend!
