Nissan skyline GT-R R32, R33 and R34 6-speed sequential gear system conversion (from 5-speed H-pattern)The Nissan GT-R R32 - also known as the Skyline - was manufactured from 1982 to 1995 and the R33 from 1995 to 1998, with the subsequent GTS-T and GT-T two-wheel-drive R34 models manufactured until 2002. Because of the inherent high performance of all these cars, every one of them has become a legend in its own right and, although some date back more than two decades, they are still subject to extensive tuning and modification.

Engine upgrades have seen huge increases in power - sometimes more than double that of standard. These boosts in output apply significant stress to the cars’ transmission system, which subsequently can lead to gearboxes failing to operate correctly and, in some cases, being damaged beyond repair. To overcome these issues and to provide a sequential-shift option for this range of cars, PPG has created a high performance 6-speed system that has been tested to withstand throughputs in excess of 1000hp.

The PPG 6-speed upgrade directly replaces the OE 5-speed H-pattern gearbox. It uses a unique helical-dog tooth pattern that combines strength and durability in a system that operates more efficiently and quietly than a traditional straight-cut dog configuration. These attributes make it the perfect choice for street, drag and track applications and, from the customer feedback received, the PPG system has proved time and again to be the most praised Skyline gearbox upgrade on the market.

When design defines functionDesign is where the story begins. Without it, PPG gear sets would not perform or last like they do.

With every product it manufactures, PPG aims to make shifting as effortless and as positive as possible: from the moment the driver touches the shift-lever, to the delivery of power right through the transmission. This allows gear changes to be executed more accurately and quickly and therefore achieve a minimal drop in RPM, more continuous acceleration, a balanced chassis and consequently, increased performance.

The PPG kit has been specifically designed to directly replace the original gear set and fits accurately inside the standard casings. In addition, no alterations are required to the gear-change mechanism or linkages, which means that installation is a straightforward, like-for-like exchange operation.

The PPG upgrade for the Nissan Skyline includes the most advanced of measurement sensors available: the GILL Blade 360° rotary position sensor. With a speed of operation usually only found in F1-type applications, the system optimizes the shift phase to allow the return of power through the transmission as soon as the dog is pre-engaged.
