General News

Welcome to Term 2! It’s great to see everyone back at school again. We hope you had a wonderful holiday. Congratulations to Riley who celebrated his birthday during the holiday break.Even though we’ve only been here for four days this week, it has been a busy time filled with lots of activities. We really enjoyed our Chapel program on Wednesday. Pastor Jack was our speaker and he told us a great story. We also had Mr Bill and Mr Ron come and present special medallions to us at the beginning of Chapel. The medallions are to commemorate a centenary of landings at Galipoli. We plan to take good care of these special reminders of what others have done for our country. We have begun to study a new book in English and we are having lots of fun finding out all about the adventures of a girl called Anne. We have been working really hard to learn how to write a persuasive text in Writing and we are looking forward to sharing our work with others. Well done everyone for a fantastic effort in our spelling test! We are trying really hard to fulfil our homework requirements for the new term. We need to remember to complete our new Reading Record each night. We are going to try really hard to read lots of books and record our efforts in our new Reading Record Booklets. A great start to the term, everyone!

Uniform Shop The uniform shop at our Cooranbong Campus will open on Sunday 23rd April and Monday 24th April from 9 am - 5 pm and will resume normal opening hours on Wednesday 26th April (8.30 am - 4.30 pm).We have several second hand winter tunics available from our Toronto Campus office for a very reasonable cost.

UniformStudents will be required to wear their winter uniform as from Term 2. However, as the weather can be a little unpredictable, we are happy for students to wear either their summer or winter uniform during the first two weeks back at school after the holidays. K-6 students need to wear their sports uniform on Mondays and Fridays during Term 2.

FeesThank you to those of you who are making a concerted effort in keeping the fees coming in. It is appreciated.

Jump Rope for Heart - Jump off dayAs you know, the Jump Rope for Heart Jump Off Day has been postponed due to poor weather conditions. This event is now to take place on Thursday 4 May. Please be aware that the Heart Foundation will be sending a media crew to the school to take photos of our Jump Off Day. If you do not want your child to be photographed for this purpose then please let us know before the event.

ANZAC Day March and CeremonyOur school has been invited to participate in the ANZAC Day march and ceremony in Toronto. As you know, ANZAC Day is a public holiday, however, we would like to encourage students to represent our school at this event. General NewsCampus Coordinator’s MessageCampus Coordinator’s Message

What a fantastic term it has been at Toronto Campus! We are just so proud of the students for working so hard and for achieving great things. Congratulations to our TCN team for doing such a good job of producing the SWOMP editions. They were just great! Well done to Pre-Kindy and K-2 for their wonderful work in our school’s garden. The garden is looking fabulous! A big thank you to our staff who work tirelessly to make Toronto Campus a great place. Thank you also to our volunteers who help with the garden, excursions and many other areas of school life. Your support is invaluable.Have you ever wondered what skills jobs of the future will require of people? The experts are saying that employees are already looking for problem solving skills and the ability to work with others. This week the Years 3-6 students participated in a STEM lesson that was absolutely amazing and helped to prepare them for the future in a very direct way. They worked with robotics and discovered how to program them to carry out various commands. This was a complex task and yet the students took on the challenge with such ease. I am so proud of them! Our value this week has been resilience and the Bible says in Ephesians 6:10, ‘Be strong in the Lord, relying on His mighty strength’. True resilience comes from focusing on Jesus and putting our trust in Him even when things don’t go our way. Jesus has promised us that He will be with us and He will help us. In Him we find peace and comfort. We know that whatever hardships we face in life that an eternity with the Lord far outweighs them all. God loves you and He will never forsake you. He hears the cries of birds and He provides for them. Aren’t you more valuable than birds? God will provide for you. He knows what you need. Call out to God. I want to wish you all a very happy holiday and I look forward to seeing you when I return from my long service leave. As you know, Mrs Thompson, along with Dr McClintock of course, will be taking care of Toronto Campus during my absence. My sincere thanks go to Mrs Thompson for her willingness to take on some extra responsibility during my absence. Term 2 will commence on Wednesday 26 April and we look forward to another great term at Toronto Campus.Enjoy the news for the week and, once again, happy holidays!

We value Resilience

This week we would like to give a very BIG welcome to Darcy and his family. Darcy has joined our Tuesday and Wednesday classes. In Bible time we have been learning about the Easter story and how Jesus died for us. We also made a very tricky paper chain, sequencing the events of the story. Our value this week has been resilience and we saw how a ball can bounce back if it has resilience, or it can stay on the ground if it has no resilience, i.e. it is flat. We also decided that we want to help others to be resilient by being bucket fillers. Mrs Morris, our chaplain, told us a very interesting story about a time when she showed resilience. It involved a bike, her dog Honey, and another black dog. In Maths time we have been measuring things. We used jelly babies to measure, and we recorded our results. Let’s just say that some children were very interested in their maths this week! At alphabet time, we learned about Uppy Umbrella, Noisy Nick and Kicking King. It is good to see children learning their alphabet sounds in a fun way. Our story this week was called, “Pudding and Chips.” We learned who the main characters were in the story, and we talked about the setting for the story also. See if your child can remember. We are continuing to get better at skipping, and we are learning about perseverance at the same time! Our new Jump Off day is Thursday May 4, so there is more time for practice in the holidays to get ready for our big day. Have a great holiday everyone, and we look forward to seeing you again after the break.

In K-2 this week we have been working on revision of the sounds and on the numbers 0-10. We have continued to learn how to write the letters and numbers. We were privelged to have the 3-6 class come and do a violin recital for us. We were so impressed with how much they have learned about playing the violin this term. The cross-country event was so much fun this week. It was a bit muddy because of all the rain but it didn’t stop us from having fun over at the Cooranbong campus. In creative writing this week the Yr 1-2 students were writing about feelings. The topic was - ‘If I was a worm, how would I feel about all the rain we have had?’ We are all looking forward to the holidays and we will be interested to hear about the holiday adventures that each of us have had over the break.

Happy holidays and keep safe!

Campus Information

TCNThis week at TCN we finished the remaining job interviews, we evaluated our involvement with the SWOMP editions of the news, and we made a thank you edition of the news for Pr Mel. We also had a yummy pizza party at lunch time on Thursday to celebrate all of our hard work with the SWOMP editions. Well done everyone!

We had a great discussion in Bible this week and we decided that Easter is about far more than chocolate eggs. John 1:29 says, ‘The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” ‘ We discovered that the experience of killing the lamb was a picture of what Jesus would one day do for us all. The sacrifice of Jesus, the Lamb of God, means we can live eternally with Him. It’s His gift of grace to us. That is wonderful news!Well done to those students who participated in this year’s Cross Country event on Monday. We are so proud of you! We are also very thankful that the rain held off long enough for us to be able to participate in the races. On Wednesday we had an amazing time in STEM as Mr Cameron, who is from our Cooranbong Campus, came to take our lesson. We always enjoy participating in this subject, however, this week’s lesson captivated our attention even more. We were able to work with robotics and we were just amazed at what we were able to get them to do. Mr Cameron showed us how to program them and to be able to do this we had to rely on our Maths skills. We can’t wait until our next robotics lesson!A BIG congratulations to everyone for such a great effort in their Science projects. We have been sharing our outstanding work with the class and we have really enjoyed seeing all the great models. Our awards this week went to Sophie for being the Student of the Week and Savannah, Nicholas, Grace, Kanayah, Jonathan and Luis for their efforts in Cross Country. Well done!Well done to everyone in Years 3-6 for a fantastic effort during Term 1. Have a wonderful holiday!
