General News

Welcome to Term 2! It’s great to see everyone back at school again. We hope you had a wonderful holiday. Congratulations to Riley who celebrated his birthday during the holiday break.Even though we’ve only been here for four days this week, it has been a busy time filled with lots of activities. We really enjoyed our Chapel program on Wednesday. Pastor Jack was our speaker and he told us a great story. We also had Mr Bill and Mr Ron come and present special medallions to us at the beginning of Chapel. The medallions are to commemorate a centenary of landings at Galipoli. We plan to take good care of these special reminders of what others have done for our country. We have begun to study a new book in English and we are having lots of fun finding out all about the adventures of a girl called Anne. We have been working really hard to learn how to write a persuasive text in Writing and we are looking forward to sharing our work with others. Well done everyone for a fantastic effort in our spelling test! We are trying really hard to fulfil our homework requirements for the new term. We need to remember to complete our new Reading Record each night. We are going to try really hard to read lots of books and record our efforts in our new Reading Record Booklets. A great start to the term, everyone!

Term 1 end and Term 2 start Last day for Term 1 is next Friday, 7th April with Term 2 commencing on Wednesday, 26th April.

Car ParkIt is important that the school’s driveway be kept clear at all times to allow traffic to flow freely. Please kindly refrain from parking alongside the curb as the big buses and other vehicles need plenty of room to be able to get through. Thank you for your cooperation on this!

FeesThank you to those of you who are making a concerted effort in keeping the fees coming in. It is appreciated.

Jump Rope for Heart - Jump off dayNext week on Wednesday 5 April our Jump Off Day will take place from 11 am until 12:20 pm. You need to be aware that the Heart Foundation will be sending along a media crew to take photos of the event for press releases. If you do not want your child to be photographed for this purpose then please let us know before Wednesday. Please note that students will need to have the money they collected for the Heart Foundation handed in before the holiday break. Students will need to wear their sports uniform on Wednesday.

ANZAC Day March and CeremonyOur school has been invited to participate in the ANZAC Day march and ceremony in Toronto. As you know, ANZAC Day is a public holiday, however, we would like to encourage students to represent our school at this event. Further information about the ANZAC Day march and ceremony will be provided, shortly.

Mufti DayThursday will be mufti day and for the privilege of wearing casual clothes students are asked to bring along $2. Funds raised will go towards supporting Muru, the boy we sponsor through Asian Aid. Students need to ensure that they do not wear thongs to school on this day. Shoes that provide protection should be worn. Thank you for noting this safety requirement.

The TableAdventist Media have commenced production of a new series entitled The Table. The show’s focus is on young families and covers topics and issues of interest to this group, including segments on exercise, cooking and do-it-yourself, while also incorporating discussion on spiritual values and perspectives. It has been a very special week with us travelling to our Cooranbong Campus daily to participate in this year’s SWOMP (Super Week of Mega Praise) SWOMP program. The focus of SWOMP this year has been ‘We are His treasure’ and we’ve had such an amazing journey finding out all about just how much God loves us and that He desperately wants to save us. There is one more program to go for SWOMP and this is to take place on Sabbath (tomorrow) at our Cooranbong Campus in the Music room. Toronto Campus families are welcome to attend this service which is to commence at 10 am.A big thank you to the TCN team and Mrs Thompson for producing the daily news editions for SWOMP. You have done an outstanding job and we are very proud of your efforts. Our sincere thanks also go to our bus drivers who have worked extra hard this week to transport us to and from the SWOMP programs. Your dedication to our school is truly appreciated! Our thanks also extend to Dr McClintock and the Cooranbong Campus for allowing us to use their big bus to help transport students to and from SWOMP. Now that our school is bigger, the travel arrangements have been a little more complex and we very much appreciate the extra assistance we have received in order to be able to attend SWOMP.

I’ve had some questions about a Parents and Friends association at Toronto Campus. Toronto Campus parents are very supportive of our various fundraising endeavours and school events. We certainly appreciate this very much! At this point in time, Toronto Campus does not have a stand-alone Parents and Friends Committee as such, however, Toronto parents are invited to join the Cooranbong Campus team, if they wish. The next Parents and Friends meeting is to be held on Wednesday 5 April and this will of course be at our Cooranbong Campus.

The Cross Country races for K-6 students are taking place on Monday. Please refer to the letter that was sent home for further information about Cross Country. Parents are welcome to come along and attend this event.

As you may know, Mrs Woods has been absent from school for a while due to recovering from an operation. Please join us in praying for her full recovery so that she can come back and join us at school again, soon. Our sincere thanks go to Mrs Greensill and Mrs Dawes for teaching the K-2 class during Mrs Woods’ absence.

Enjoy the news for the week!

SWOMP has been a big part of our week as we travelled to our Cooranbong Campus to take part in this exciting program. There were lots of bus rides which provided a lot of excitement, especially when it was your very first bus ride! On Thursday we had two bus rides as we went to swimming also! After gardening on Wednesday, we enjoyed a frozen fruit ice block because it was so hot. We had to work hard in the garden first though. We needed to fertilise the plants with a special seaweed fertiliser. Abel thought we should have an ice block after every gardening session. These children have lots of good ideas! Our skipping is coming along very nicely, and we have our jump off day this coming Wednesday. I am looking forward to showing everyone how well Pre-Kindy children can skip now!Have a great week everyone!

What an exciting week we are having visiting the Cooranbong campus every day for SWOMP. We have loved learning new songs during worship and hearing stories from the Bible from Carly Fraser, our SWOMP speaker. She has bought the Bible to life and kept us on the edge of our seats every day.

The TCN team have done us proud with their memory verse videos each day, they have been great.

Congratulations to Daniel who won the SWOMP Bible quiz on Wednesday. Georgia, Tyler and Trinity are to be commended for their answers in the quiz too.

We did a lego mobile challenge for STEM and were impressed with everyones creations. Students shwoed what they made and told us what challenges they had making it, and if they had more time what they would change or add.We were impressed with Isobel’s mobile creation and enjoyed listening to her challenges and what she would change or add if she had more time.

Campus Information

What a special time we’ve had this week with it being Super Week of Mega Praise. A big thank you to Years 3-6 and Mrs Thompson for producing the daily TCN reports. Well done!! We also want to thank Pastor Mel and his team for organising another great SWOMP program. We really enjoyed worshiping together with the students at our Cooranbong Campus. Please remember that SWOMP will also take place on Sabbath at our Cooranbong Campus and our Toronto Campus families are welcome to attend the program. We had such a great time presenting our projects this week and a big congratulations to everyone for their efforts. We have just been amazed at all the great models that have been created by the students. They look fantastic! We had our last swimming lesson on Thursday for the term. We are so grateful to the Morisset Pool staff for teaching us. We really have had a great time at the pool!Next week we will be participating in the Cross Country events at our Cooranbong Campus. Mums and dads are welcome to come along and watch. We also need to remember to collect the money raised for the Heart Foundation. Our Jump Off Day is on Wednesday and we can’t wait to put into practice what we have been learning in skipping this term.Well done, Years 3-6!

TCNAt TCN this week we have been mega busy producing all of our TCN editions of the news for SWOMP. Parents, you can be assured that your children have risen to the occasion and they have been very professional in their contribution to the news. We have filmed an object lesson each day that ties in with the message of the day, and these have been very well received. Nick, Kanayah and Riley have been busy video editing some of the editions of the news, and I think they have all learned something new in final cut pro this week. Riley learned how to reverse a video clip, and Kanayah learned how to match audio and video together, by matching up the sound waves. Uriah, Nick, Kanayah and Mrs Thompson experienced a miracle on Monday afternoon when they were video editing. It was amazing, and Kanayah will be writing a story about it. You will be able to read her story on our TCN blog page which you can find on our TCN website, at torontocampusnews.com We will upload all our of SWOMP editions of the news shortly, so parents and friends can watch them from home. We have also had a request via our website, from Benjamin, who used to work at TCN in 2015. He would like to see our 2016 Bloopers on our website, so we will upload the bloopers soon. We have four more interviews to go for job applications at TCN, so students will be receiving letters in the mail during the holidays, notifying them of which job they have received. I know we have a very able and dedicated team at TCN this year, and I look forward to seeing the wonderful things each student will achieve.
