Transfer Out

Congratulations to those of you transferring to a new school for the fall 2017 semester! If you are transferring to a new school, do not forget to submit a Transfer Out Request with a copy of your acceptance letter from your

new school. We will begin accepting and pro-cessing Transfer Out Requests on May 30,

2017. Keep in mind that regulations require you to have your I-20 transferred within 60 days from the last day of your program at

SMC. The Transfer Out Request will take up to 10 business days to process.

I-20 Extension Deadline – May 31, 2017

If your I-20 expires June 30, 2017, and you need more time to complete your

educational goal, you will need to submit your request for an I-20 Extension be-fore May 31. Failure to get your exten-sion request approved before your I-20 expires will result in your I-20 no longer

being valid at SMC. If you were to contin-ue at SMC, you would have to apply for

reinstatement.

Deadline to Submit Request for

Reduced Course Load – June 2, 2017

If you are below 12 units and you think you may qualify for a reduced

course load, you need to see a coun-selor for a Reduced Course Load Rec-ommendation before the stated dead-line. If you are below 12 units and not approved for a reduced course load,

your I-20 will be terminated at the end of the semester, and you will need to

apply for reinstatement. Reinstatement Workshops

If you are out of status or think you may even-tually be out of status, you are invited to at-tend one of our reinstatement workshops. The reinstatement workshop is designed to

help you understand and feel more comforta-ble with the reinstatement process. The rein-statement workshop schedule is listed below:

Friday, May 19 –11:30am, HSS 103

Friday, May 26–11:30am, HSS 103

Thursday, June 1—11:15am, HSS 103

OPT Application Submission

Deadline – July 28, 2017

For spring graduates interested in OPT, you must meet with an immigration

specialist at the IEC by July 28 in order to turn your application in to USCIS by no later 60 days after your program

completion date. Keep in mind that you must complete the 1-hour appointment

with an immigration specialist to pre-pare your application, so please plan

accordingly.
