CLUB NOTES I’m very excited for our upcoming golf season but the only thing I keep won- dering is when will it start? This month I hope... Just to get everybody up to speed I will go over our new staff assignments at the club. Cody will be in charge of all Pub Operations and Andrew will be in charge of all banquet operations and both will help with the marketing of the club. I have a lot of confidence in both of these guys and please, let them know how they are doing. TJ will be our new Head Golf Professional. I think after 14 year he has earned that title. TJ will continue his PGA schooling over the next few years striving for his Class A status. I will be in the shop, in the office, on the course, in corporate offices, attending public functions, and doing one very important thing; selling and telling everyone on the great benefits of Creek- side and it’s wonderful members. Selling memberships will be my main goal this year. Another project that I have been working on over the last few months is to expand our use of the great Performance Center that we have. I would like to introduce Tim Spuhler, formerly from Dick’s Sporting Goods here in Salem. Many of you already know Tim from club repair work you may have had him do for you at Dick’s. The good news is, now you don’t have to go to Dick’s to see him, he is our newest staff member. Tim has been around golf for many years and over the last eight years, has put together quite a resume in club re- pair and club fitting. He has completed the training program at the Golfworks Academy and has also completed fitting programs at Cobra and Ping and has become a Certified Retail Fitter for TaylorMade and a Master Fitter for Callaway Golf. Tim also just finished the True Temper Certification as well. His simple philosophy has always been to fit the clubs to your swing, not your swing to the clubs. Tim will mainly be in the Performance Center doing what he does best...club repair and club fitting. Tim is not only our newst employee, but he and his wife Carmen are our newest members, so lets welcome them both to Creekside Golf Club! We are going to start an advertising page in the newsletter. Our first advertiser is Salon 12. The cost will be $500 per year and will go out with each newsletter that will be viewed by both members and non-members. We are just trying to promote our members’ services to other members and guests whenever possible. I have seen this work really well at other clubs. Just contact Linda in the office if you are interested. If you would like to view a club calendar, go to our website. That is the calendar that is always up to date. Both the Men’s and Ladies’ groups will also have a calendar with more detail on each of their websites as well. And, the hard copy that I keep talking about is getting closer. We have just had many changes over the last month so it was worth the wait. The hard copy should be in the shop by mid-March. In the meantime, if you need to know today, go to the website: golfcreekside.com or visit the new Men’s site at www.creeksidemga.com and the WGA site at www.wgacreekside.org. We are always trying to communicate with our members through different avenues, so we also put up a big monthly calendar just outside the bag storage room. Check it out next time you play! We really do want you to know what is going on at the club. See you at the club! Danny Moore GM/PGA Professional A NEWSLETTER FOR CREEKSIDE GOLF CLUB MEMBERS TEE GREEN TO March 2017 6250 Clubhouse Drive S.E. • Salem, Oregon 97306 • www.golfcreekside.com 1 Creekside Golf Club POT GOLD I recently talked to Larry the Leprauchan and he gave me a very simple idea about letting our members find a “Pot of Gold”. Starting in the month of March, there will be a $10 buy in and the contest will be...the first person to get a Hole-in-One on Hole #3 will win the “Pot of Gold” which will amount to the total pot of those who “buy-in”. After that has been won, we will move to Hole #6 and then to Hole #11, etc. All you have to do is stop by the golf shop and give us $10 or charge it on your account. This will be a fun event that we can keep going all year! Who will win the first “Pot of Gold”? Spread the word to all your golfing partners so the pot gets bigger. The winner must be playing with other players to qualify. Good luck to all! of DRESS CODE REMINDER Once again, just a reminder... Greetings Creeekside!! I love hearing aboutrecords being set and we saw several of those thispast month as we watched the Super Bowl! How-ever, I’m not sure that I’m excited about Oregon

setting a record for thewettest February ever!! Ithink we are all ready to seesome warm temperatures, dry days, and sunshine! Aswe anticipate the arrival ofspring I want to give you aquick snapshot of what ishappening on the course asthe season begins to rampup.

After one of the wettest win-ters on record the crew is be-ginning to put the bunkersback together. The continu-ous rains created numerouswashouts that must be re-paired and all of the bunkershave to be raked out andedged. With over 80bunkers this becomes apretty big project.

As the days become consistently longer withwarmer temperatures the grass is definitely readyto start growing. Here is #14 after mowing. We

will begin to spray small amounts of fertilizermixed with iron to green things up and make themlook sharp. You will notice that the grass on thegreens of holes 2, 3, 15, & 17 is much thinner.Lack of sunlight creates a much colder micro-cli-mate on these greens due to their location next to

the south hills & trees at Creekside. This micro-cli-mate causes the greens to struggle maintaining turfdensity. Less than 200 yards away from 17 greenyou will see a noticeable difference in the health ofthe turf grass on greens 10, 11, or 16. This betterhealth is simply the result of more sunlight creatingwarmer temperatures. We will be raising theheight and hand mowing these greens for severalweeks until we see them begin to recover as springtemperaturesarrive.

One last itemas we launchinto a new sea-son…please re-place divots!!If a divot is stillintact then “DoNot Use SandSeed”. Instead“Replace TheDivot”. Wehave instantturf when adivot is re-placed compared tothe 4-5 weeks for seedto germinate and be-come dense. Help usas we strive to keepfairways and tees ingreat condition.

I am excited about thiscoming season! Wewill continue to strive toimplement agronomicmaintenance practicesthat will make Creek-side Golf Club acourse that you andyour friends are proud of.
