Program RequirementsLastra a Signa is a small town just outside of Florence, Italy. Their library is an incredibly old facility that is in the process of renovation along with its piazza space. Brunelleschi is said to have designed the portico running along the west side of the existing building. The library addition was to include a coffee shop, bathroom, grand stair and elevator while piazza space was free for design.
Originally, the site lacked a sense of direction for any occupant entering the site or building. The conceptual idea was to design the addition and piazza space to give persons entering the site a flow focused experience. An organic form was created through a collage study that created a conflicting relationship with the existing surroundings. This conflict is solved, three dimensionally and two dimensionally, by the addition of benches that were created from the mirrored length of the existing wall and rotating out and shortening to align with and extend the portico. The rounded form of the structure ushers persons either into the piazza or into the main entrance in a continuous flow. The surrounding areas of the piazza are separated by boundaries formed through landscape and materiality.

Program RequirementsDresden is a city in Germany that suffered a great deal during World War II. Almost the entire city was destroyed through fire bombings and was rebuilt in a communist style. An urban design proposal was requested for the provided site with a focus on a small portion without any programmatic requirements.
The conceptual idea of this urban design proposal was to pull the urban fabrics of the city onto the site and intertwine them together to create a new type of fabric. In section, the two program types of commercial and residential spaces move up and down as well as through and behind each other. The specified units inside the program are also interlocked with each other while wrapping around the circulation. Interlocking the buildings and program units with one another allows for various feelings of over and under to be experienced as a whole and in smaller areas. The forms of the structure were designed to be different from the city’s existing style while playing off of it in a less static way.

Program RequirementsThe purpose of a single room occupancy (SRO) housing facility is to help homeless persons get their lives back in order and on their feet again. This housing was proposed for a site spanning between Sixth Street and Fourth Street in Cleveland, Ohio. A public market, the housing unit themselves, a community kitchen, community lounge, and front desk area was provided as the program basis.
The conceptual design of the building deals with both the physical and sociological aspects of the problem at hand. The residents enter at the Fourth Street entrance which is located on the more run-down side of the site. From there the residents are built up with community while being isolated from the ground, or public, level in order to re acclimate themselves. The units are pushed upwards as well as interlocked with their neighbors representing the idea of the homeless being pushed from the streets to work together to achieve their goals. As the residents exit the building onto Sixth Street, full of businesses and shops, they have been integrated back into society.

This project is a proposed design for a Kent, Ohio National Archives building. To begin the design process, conceptual study models were made and the strongest concept was chosen for further development. A mobius loop of program and circulation was determined on the site which defined the structural base for the skin.
This mobius loop moves through the site horizontally and vertically while the skin surrounding it contracts and expands in accordance with the size and placement of the program inside. The space was intended for occupants flow effortlessly through the sequential spaces. The walls and ceilings of the building are composed of glass with a solid skin surface acting as an element that can be experienced both inside and outside of the structure.

Program RequirementsThis project consisted of a design study that focused on the relationships and experiences created as two characters moved throughout a series of spaces. Initially, a cartoon strip including 4 panels of a two-dimensional space was drawn and then developed to become a three-dimensional space through the addition of shade and shadow along with the placement of two characters. The storyboard created was then transformed into a three-dimensional model through the study of extension and expansion of two monolithic components that wrap and fold throughout the plane and themselves in order to create interesting experiences in which characters could occupy. The final design illustrates a spatial sequence in which characters can move across the given plane horizontally, as well as passing through the plane’s threshold vertically without disrupting the continuity of movement within the space.

Throughout my childhood and continuing to this day in my life, I have been interested in all mediums of the fine arts. During high school, I was challenged to experiment with many mediums such as acrylic paints, oil paints, print making, pastels, charcoal, and pencil. These challenges allowed me to develop a feel for each medium which in turn was used to create a final product, displaying my knowledge and skill gained. By developing my abilities to adapt to various mediums I am able to visually express my ideas and concepts.
