CCRKBA ‘Guns Save Lives’ Event Scheduled Wednesday In DC

CCRKBA.org

BELLEVUE, WA – -(Ammoland.com)- The Citizens Committee for the

Right to Keep and Bear Arms will hold a special media event featuring

the rolling “Guns Save Lives” billboard on Wednesday 3/30/11 at 11:30

a.m. at the corner of North Capitol Street and Louisiana Avenue N.E.

outside the Fox News DC Bureau and C-Span.

Appearing at the event will be CCRKBA Public Affairs Director John

Snyder, CCRKBA Legislative Liason Joe Waldron and Virginia Citizens

Defense League (VCDL) President Philip Van Cleave. They will be

discussing the benefits of firearms ownership, and what gun

prohibitionists are trying to hide with their current effort to scare the

public into supporting additional restrictions on gun owners.

Anti-gun billionaire New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has teamed up

with Mayors Against Illegal Guns to send a moving billboard truck

around the country claiming that 34 Americans are “murdered with

guns every day.”

CCRKBA Chairman Alan M. Gottlieb said, “Bloomberg’s

campaign tells less than half of a story, so we’re setting the

record straight with the help of several outstanding Arizona

gun rights activists.”

“Bloomberg’s organization would be more aptly titled

‘Mayors Against Self-Defense’,” said Joe Waldron “Their

campaign of hysteria and the mis-information it is spreading,

inspired CCRKBA and the Second Amendment Foundation to

send out our own truck and ‘truth squad’ to several major

American cities over the past few weeks”

.

CCRKBA’s mobile billboard arrived in Washington, DC Monday, and has

been traveling the streets with a simple message: Guns Save Lives.

CCRKBA and VCDL will have handouts available, and will answer

questions.

Since its inception in March 2001, a total 311,859 shell casings have been

cataloged.

New York State Rifle and Pistol Association

TROY, NY --(Ammoland.com)- This month marks the 10th anniversary

of New York’s Combined Ballistic Identification System (CoBIS)

program.

Under this program, all new handguns sold in the state must be test fired

and the shell casing imaged and entered into an electronic databank for

possible crime scene identification.

Since its inception in March 2001, a total 311,859 shell casings have been

cataloged. At an estimated cost of $4 million dollars per year, $40

million dollars has been spent on CoBIS over the past decade.

What have taxpayers received for this? Absolutely nothing!

Not a single crime has been solved because of it. By any

measure, CoBIS has been a total failure and a public policy

disaster.

Now, the same people who swore CoBIS would work are back pushing

more of the same failed philosophy in the form of mandatory firearms

microstamping, which is essentially another ballistic imaging scheme

based upon unproven science fiction technology. The New York State

Sheriffs’ Association recognizes this nonsense and opposes the

microstamping legislation.

NYSRPA calls upon Governor Andrew Cuomo, Attorney General Eric

Schneiderman and state legislative leaders to publicly recognize these

boondoggles for what they are, defund the CoBIS program and stand up

to the fringe special interests advocating microstamping.

About:

The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association is the state’s largest and

oldest firearms advocacy organization. Since 1871, our organization has

been dedicated to the preservation of Second Amendment rights, firearm

safety, education and training, and the shooting sports. Our membership

consists of individuals and clubs throughout the state. We are a not-for-

profit 501(c)4 organization and the official NRA-affiliated State

Association in New York. Visit: www.nysrpa.org

holding a Model 1911. High relief 24 karat gold inlays feature the text

“100 years of Faithful Service” and the Colt Dome on the top of the slide

and a profile of John Browning with the serial number “1911COLT001”

Company, stated, “In 1911, we teamed up with John

Browning and commissioned him to design a pistol

chambered in .45 Automatic Colt Pistol to win the Army’s

new pistol competition. Now, 100 years later, it’s our rare

privilege, as the original maker of the Model 1911 pistol, to

team up with The NRA Foundation to furnish this

Anniversary Model for sale to the highest bidder.”

“Colt’s generous donation will assist The NRA Foundation in

securing the future of NRA’s programs for the American

public to experience,” said John DaSilva, National Manager,

Events and Marketing of NRA Field Operations. “The support

from our industry partners is vital in our successful mission

and grassroots efforts to service the needs of NRA’s

programs.”

grants since its inception in 1990. Through its efforts, the Foundation

provides essential funding for programs such as youth education, law

enforcement training, conservation, and marksmanship training.

Changes Coming to New Jersey Gun Laws

By Dan Roberts

State Mandated Victimhood and You - Perfect Together!

New Jersey Coalition for Self Defense

New Jersey – -(Ammoland.com)- The question posed to the author

was, “In light of federal court decisions striking down gun restrictions

in Chicago and Washington, D.C., do you believe New Jersey will have

to change some of its strict gun laws?”

Most certainly. For the last forty years the legislature, via a combination

of ignorance, arrogance and no small measure of hoplophobia has finally

managed to box itself into a corner with regard to the way it treats the

fundamental right to firearms as codified in the Second Amendment.

The entire foundation of New Jersey’s blatantly unconstitutional gun

laws is found in a 1968 State Supreme Court decision; Burton v. Sills.

This decision relied on an intellectually bankrupt and now discarded

interpretation of the Second Amendment as pertaining only to “the

militia” or National Guard. This definition is more commonly known as

the “collectivist interpretation” which was eliminated once and for all in

the 2008 Supreme Court case Heller v. DC.

In light of last year’s Supreme Court decision in McDonald v. Chicago, in

which the Court properly found that the Second Amendment is a

fundamental right just as important as the other Amendments in the Bill

of Rights; and, was binding against the states via the Equal Protection

Clause of the 14th Amendment, New Jersey is now in an untenable and

completely indefensible position with regard to its firearms laws as they

are currently written.

There are several glaring issues that as a matter of law will be overturned

by a Federal Court. First and foremost, NJ firearms laws are written in

such a way that bans ALL firearms and related items, and then proceed

to carve out extremely technical and narrow exemptions to that blanket

ban. The current legislative language is so convoluted and

incomprehensible that even judges and law enforcement officials don’t

understand it, as the recent case of Brian Aitken in Mt. Laurel so clearly

illustrated.

Additionally, numerous Court decisions over the last several decades

have consistently found that no legislature may write laws that are

effectively a wholesale ban on the practice of fundamental rights,

regardless of how much some people may not like the result of people’s

exercising them.

Currently, law abiding citizens to legally purchase a firearm in New

Jersey are forced to go through an onerous and needlessly duplicative

process that in the end still relies on the wholly subjective personal

opinion of their local chief law enforcement officer as to whether or not

they will be granted permission to exercise their right to firearms. The

catch is the clause that allows a local official, usually the Chief of Police,

to deny the applicant’s Firearms Purchaser ID Card with the vague

excuse that issuance “would not be in the interest of the public welfare”.

This level of discretion is something that has long been abused

throughout the state, often resulting in innocent people having to spend

thousands of dollars fighting an arbitrary decision rendered with the

flimsiest of excuses. Thus the legislature can either do the wise and just

thing and rewrite the current statute to a “shall issue” status if a citizen

passes the necessary criminal background checks, or be forced to do so

by Federal Court order.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Already being challenged with

Federal lawsuits or soon-to-be-filed suits against the state include issues

such as the recently passed One Gun a Month law, the impossibility of

anyone other then the famous or politically well-connected to receive

permits to carry a firearm in public for self defense, and a whole host of

other matters.

The majority of New Jersey residents are somewhat ambivalent about

the numerous problems surrounding the state’s intellectually and

morally bankrupt firearms laws, but that majority does care about

something else: the rampant squandering of their hard-earned tax

dollars by the legislature. The irresponsible expenditure of millions of

dollars of taxpayer money, fighting lawsuits they cannot win, is precisely

what is happening as this is written. I was actually told by a Senator that

certain members of the legislature are so blindly wed to their anti-

firearm ideology that they simply “do not care how much money they

waste; they will fight any changes until a Judge orders them to do

otherwise.” That mindset is something that should be extremely

troubling to the voting public, especially in a year when the entire

9

legislature is up for re-election.

Another big problem for the legislature, and something that is currently

working its way through the Federal Courts, is “Right to Carry”. As

previously mentioned, currently only the highly politically connected and

famous are able to receive permits to carry a firearm for self defense in

public. Additionally, when the Legislature wrote the statute that permits

retired former law enforcement officers to carry a firearm, they

essentially admitted in the language of the law that they created a

separate class of citizens with “Super Rights”, based on nothing more

then what the person’s former career was.

This position is a clear and blatant violation of the 14th Amendment and

cannot stand. In the 2008 Heller v. DC case, the Supreme Court declared

that “Putting all these textual elements together, we find that they

guarantee the individual right to possess and carry weapons in case of

confrontation.”

Even prior to this decision, the non-biased National Academy of Sciences

issued a 500-plus page report that examined every gun control scheme of

the last twenty years, and found that not only did they have “no notable

effect on reducing violent crime” but that it was “beyond dispute that

American citizens legally use a firearm in defense of themselves or

another no less then 700,000 times a year.” This is a figure

exponentially higher than the total of firearms related deaths from any

other event (homicide, accident, suicide etc.).

There are several other noteworthy arguments for why a law abiding

citizen has every right to carry a weapon in public for self defense – far

too many to explore in detail in the space allotted for this article – so I

will attempt to touch briefly on the highlights.

Over the last thirty years, courts at every level have consistently ruled

that there is no individual right to protection by the police; that the

police have no obligation to individual citizens; and that officers,

departments and municipalities cannot be held liable or responsible for

their failure to arrive in time to protect a citizen from a criminal

predator. The research arm of the Justice Dept determined that the

average response time to a 911 call is four minutes, while the average

interaction time between a criminal and his victim is 90 seconds. Honest

law enforcement officials will admit that they cannot possibly be

everywhere at once; that they most often arrive after the crime has been

committed and the perpetrator has fled; and that the individual citizen is

ultimately primarily responsible for his or her own safety.

An incident in South Jersey from several years ago tragically illustrates

this point. Two men kidnapped Christina Eberle from a train station

parking lot in Camden on her way home from work. An eyewitness saw

the altercation as it happened and called 911 to report a “screaming

woman being forced into a car by two men.” The 911 dispatcher failed to

properly record or dispatch the call to officers in the field, and Ms.

Eberle was found dead of strangulation a short time later. I do not claim

to know Ms. Eberle’s personal feelings about firearms, nor do I claim

that had she had one with her that horrible night that the outcome would

have been different. But what is crystal clear is that New Jersey

arbitrarily denied her the choice and then utterly failed her when she

need help the most.

A review of the 2007 crime statistics published annually by the State

Police reveal that 85 percent of all aggravated assaults are committed

with weapons other then firearms as are 67 percent of forcible robberies.

Additionally, over 1000 rapes were committed, 95 percent of them by

force, but less then half ever resulted in the arrest of the perpetrator.

This translates to tens of thousands of crime victims suffering serious,

potentially life threatening injuries and certain psychological trauma

needlessly because the legislature has seen fit to deny them the most

effective means to protect themselves. Numerous repeated surveys of

violent felons over the last twenty years have consistently revealed, in the

predators’ own words, that they “laugh at gun laws” and candidly admit

they are “much more afraid of encountering an armed potential victim

then they are the police.” The criminals know that the police are

predictable and must follow procedure, while a potential victim suddenly

and unexpectedly producing the tool and will power to defend himself or

herself is an unknown entity, better to be avoided.

Years ago New Jersey adopted a motto: “New Jersey and You – Perfect

Together!” A more accurate and realistic motto would be, “State

Mandated Victimhood and You – Perfect Together!”

Fortunately for common sense, but unfortunately for the taxpayers that

will be forced to fund the defense of the indefensible, NJ is facing an

onslaught of federal-level lawsuits that will finally force the state to

revamp its firearms laws and come much closer to the laws already on

the books for decades in the vast majority of the country. If the

legislature is smart, they would do well, not only by their constituents,

but also if they wish to extend their political careers beyond this election

year, to put the entire NJ firearms regulatory scheme under a

microscope and start to voluntarily rewrite the draconian laws now in

place before a Federal Judge orders them to do it.

One way or another, change is finally coming to New Jersey

regarding its firearms laws and it is long overdue.

ATF Seeking Public CommentsIf Certain Shotguns Should BeImportedMAR 28, 2011 02:05P.M.

ATF Seeking Public Comments If Certain Shotguns Should Still

Be Imported

Take Action to Stop Pending Gun Ban

FirearmsCoalition.org

Washington, DC --(Ammoland.com)- The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco,

Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) is seeking public comment on their

recent “study” on the importability of certain shotguns.

It is critical that rights supporters express their objections to this “study”

and its pending implementation in no uncertain terms.

A strong showing of opposition can help to stiffen the spines of members

of Congress and a poor showing will absolutely be pointed to as proof

that people support expanded importation bans.

Comments need to be clearly opposed to expanding import bans and,

most importantly, they must be submitted in a timely fashion.

Intending to send a comment, but never actually getting

around to it, does no one any good.

The comment period is open now through the end of April. Comments

can be submitted via email to [email protected] or by fax to(202)

648-9601.

Below is a sample comment you can paraphrase or simply cut

and paste into your own email:

Subject: I Oppose Further Restrictions on Shotgun Imports.

I strongly oppose further restrictions on the importation of

shotguns and disagree with the findings in the ATF shotgun

study.

The constitutional authority for import restrictions based on

a vague “Sporting Purpose Test” is highly suspect in light of

the recent Heller and McDonald Supreme Court decisions

and the Court’s previous decision inMiller.

Under the definitions contained in this study, virtually all

pump-action and semi-auto shotguns would be banned

because all of them are capable of accepting a magazine –

box or tube – capable of holding more than 5 rounds. This

and other characteristics determined to be “military” in the

study are utilitarian and often significantly enhance a gun’s

usefulness, particularly for people with disabilities. Denying

access to certain designs or features can effectively serve to

disarm (for personal defense and sporting purposes) vast

numbers of disabled veterans and others with disabilities

resulting in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

There are a variety of popular and growing sports which

utilize shotguns with “military” features. These guns are

dominant in USPSA, IDPA, IPSC and other popular shooting

sports. Refusing to recognize these sports as they relate to

shotguns based on the implications such recognition might

have on rifle and pistol importability is disingenuous at best.

Applying import restrictions does little more than increase

costs and complicate compliance for US shooters and gun

owners. Foreign manufacturers remove features and adapt

their firearms to comply with US import restrictions and

then US shooters modify the firearms back to the desired,

original configurations. This can be expensive and legally

dangerous since failing to comply with obscure provisions of

the laws related to altering imported firearms can result in

unintended commission of multiple felonies which carry

serious penalties.

ATF should shelve all plans to implement any of the findings

of this study.

Respectfully submitted,

# # #

Everyone who cares about overreaching government bureaucracy should

immediately send an email [email protected] including the above

points. Cutting and pasting from this article is encouraged. Participation

is much more important than originality or eloquence.

One of the most important things about this ATF “study” and proposed

shotgun importation ban is that it lays the groundwork for much

broader, general shotgun restrictions. Importation is not the only place

where federal gun laws apply this unconstitutional “sporting purpose

test,” it is also found in the National Firearms Act (NFA), the laws

dealing with machineguns and destructive devices. Under the NFA, any

firearm with a bore greater than .5 inch is a “destructive device” – in the

same category as mortars and Howitzers. The only exception is for

“shotguns which the secretary finds are generally recognized as

particularly suitable for sporting purposes.” If the secretary (in this case

Attorney General Eric Holder) finds that certain shotguns are not

importable because they are unsuitable for sporting purposes he must

then explain why virtually identical guns, with the same features, are

considered suitable for sporting purposes with regard to the NFA. How

can he declare them non-sporting on the one hand and not declare

identical guns as non-sporting on the other?

There can be no doubt that the Brady Bunch and other gun

control zealots will be asking that question loudly if ATF and

Holder move forward with current import restriction plans.

If these proposed rules for shotgun importation are not stopped now,

virtually every pump-action and semi-auto shotgun in existence could be

banned – not just from importation, but from possession or transfer. The

guns would fall under the same harsh restrictions currently applicable to

machineguns.

Please do not delay taking action on this. Your voice matters. Send your

comments to [email protected] and cc your email to both of your US

Senators and your Representative. Please also add

SIG SAUER

EXETER, NH --(Ammoland.com)- Max Michel, Jr., captain of Team

SIG SAUER, continued his strong start to the 2011 shooting season by

setting a world record en route to victory at this weekend’s U.S. Steel

Nationals in Titusville, Florida.

As the first Steel Challenge match of the season, the U.S. Steel Nationals

attracts the top speed shooters from around the world. Competitors are

often separated by razor-thin margins, as confirmed last year when

Michel finished second, a mere 1/100th of a second behind the first-place

winner.

“This match always pushes me to the limits,” Michel said.

“The level of competition here allows practically no room for

mental or equipment errors. Today, everything came together

perfectly.”

Michel posted an overall time of 75.68 seconds, beating the previous

record set in 2008. This is Michel’s third U.S. Steel Nationals victory in

the past five years.

Next up for Michel will be the USPSA Area 6 Championship in

Michigan Department of Natural Resources

Michigan --(Ammoland.com)- Thirteen wild turkey hens that were

native to Barry County have been relocated to Oscoda County, the

Department of Natural Resources announced today.

The trap-and-transfer operation was a joint effort of the DNR, Michigan

Wild Turkey Hunters Association, National Wild Turkey Federation and

the Mio Chamber of Commerce, as part of a plan to revitalize the

northern Michigan wild turkey population, which has been in decline

during the last decade.

The birds, which were trapped on private land in an area with a robust

turkey population, were released on public land near Fairview, a town

once billed as the “Wild Turkey Capitol of Michigan.”

From left to right: Jennifer Kleitch (Michigan Department of Natural

Resources—Wildlife Division), Tony Snyder (National Wild Turkey

Federation), Keith Fisher (Michigan Department of Natural

Resources—Wildlife Division), and Ivan Geise (Michigan Wild Turkey

Hunters Association).

Al Stewart, the DNR’s upland game bird specialist, said more wild

turkeys may be released in northern Michigan this year if weather

conditions remain conducive to trapping birds in southern Michigan.

“This is an excellent example of our employees working with

our stakeholders to enhance wildlife populations and produce

high-quality outdoor experiences,” said DNR Director

Rodney Stokes.

Wild turkeys were once totally extirpated from Michigan, but thanks to

cooperative efforts of the DNR and conservation groups, turkey

populations are now thriving in many parts of the state.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is committed to the

conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state’s

natural and cultural resources for current and future generations. For

DESERET NEWS & KSL.COMAttacking Gun Rights in UtahMAR 28, 2011 10:52A.M.

DESERET NEWS & KSL.COM Attacking Gun Rights in Utah

KSL.com Gun Classifieds

Utah Shooting Sports Council

Utah -–(Ammoland.com)- Sunday’s Deseret News has an article stating

that KSL.com is considering banning classified ads for guns.

This change of policy appears to be based on the usual lies from the anti-

gunners that private sales of firearms are a huge source of guns for

criminals.

Whether or not you use or even plan to use KSL.com to buy or sell guns

they need to hear from you as soon as possible. Let them know that you

do not want them to ban classified ads for firearms.

This is a much bigger issue than losing an online option to buy and sell

guns. The issue here is the demonization of guns and gun owners, and

that is part of the anti-gun crowd’s long standing goal to eliminate all

private sales and media advertising for guns, especially in any sort of

classified ads.

If KSL.com bans firearm classified ads they will be making a statement

that the lawful buying and selling of firearms is something dangerous

and dirty. That placing an ad to sell a gun is the equivalent to placing an

ad for prostitution or illegal drugs, things KSL currently prohibits. A ban

on firearms advertising will work nicely to advance the anti-gun agenda

to demonize the lawful ownership of firearms.

The Deseret News and KSL.com are seeking input on this matter. Please

go to the following links and let them know what you think.

USSC is disappointed that the Deseret News chose to interview two anti-

gun activists, balanced somewhat by interviews with two staunchly pro-

gun legislators, but failed to seek input from any gun rights groups in

Utah. While it was not as biased as some reporting has been in other

media outlets, it is disappointing that even the Deseret News has veered

to the left in their gun views.

Steyr Arms

TRUSSVILLE, Alabama --(Ammoland.com)- Steyr Arms has

announced the introduction of the new C9-A1 pistol, which bridges the

gap between a compact carry and full-sized shootability.

With its concealable-length slide and barrel of the S-series Steyr pistol,

and the hand-filling frame and high capacity of the M-series, the C9-A1

provides the best of both worlds.

The new C9-A1 is nearly identical in form and function to other

handguns in the Steyr line—the M-A1 full-size series with its 17-round

magazine and the S-A1 compact series with its 3.6-inch barrel. The new

C9-A1 also boasts the newly redesigned Reset Action System trigger

mechanism that was introduced in December. Chambered exclusively in

that provides comfortable ergonomics, low bore axis, remarkable safety

features, amazing accuracy thanks to a consistently crisp break, and

extreme reliability.

The C9-A1’s full-size polymer frame offers unparalleled ergonomics with

a high grip and low barrel axis that mitigates muzzle rise as well as

creating a perfect grip angle for a very natural point of aim. The drift-

adjustable sights are in the traditional three-dot configuration and a

Picatinny rail on the frame’s dust cover provides availability for

mounting illumination and laser-aiming devices. The integrated trigger

safety with the newly redesigned Reset Action System trigger requires

positive finger pressure to operate the double-action-only mechanism.

This striker-fired pistol also incorporates a keyed safety lock. The barrel

is cold-hammer forged with conventional rifling, and the chamber is fully

supported.
