Topic : Unit 2: Being Healthy

Focused skill : Listening and Speaking

Proficiency level : Intermediate

Content Standard(s): 1.1 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to pronounce words and speak confidently with the

correct stress, rhythm and intonation.

Learning standard(s): 1.1.1 Able to speak with the correct word stress.

1.1.4 Able to talk about a stimulus with guidance.

Objective(s) : By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

1. Tell the name of the food based on the pictures and categorize the food correctly.

2. Identify the food based on a picture and tell whether the food is healthy or unhealthy.

Teaching Aid(s) : Word cards, empty charts, mah-jong paper, picture cards, Lucky Pot, “Healthy” and “Unhealthy” baskets, worksheets

and letter.

restaurant/ stall and the

food that they sell”

the restaurant/stall?

Answers:

1) The name of the

restaurant is KFC.

2) They sell fried chicken.

3)Twice a week.

1) Teacher greets the students and tells the students that they are

going to mix and match the restaurant and the food that they sell

“Mix and Match” (Appendix A).

2) After matching the pictures, teacher selects four students to

come forward. Each student is given a word card (Appendix B)

and they are asked to label the name of food correctly.

(15 minutes)

Whole Class Activity:

Introduce the

vocabularies “Food We

Eat!”

1) Teacher puts on the empty charts with label of the food namely

fruits, bread and cereals, desserts, drinks, vegetables, meat and

fish (Appendix C) on the board.

2) Teacher brings in a series of pictures (Appendix D) and asks

students about the name and pastes it on the name of the food

correctly.

Rationale: To encourage

students to relate with

their prior knowledge.

While-listening Whole Class Activity 1) Teacher brings in a Lucky Pot that contains 25 set of pictures

of food (Appendix E).

2) Is it healthy or

1) It is a chocolate.

2) Teacher asks the students to come forward one by one to draw

a picture (Appendix E) from the Lucky Pot and then categorize the

food into a “Healthy” and “Unhealthy” basket.

Post-listening Whole Class Activity: 1) Teacher distributes the worksheets, “What I Eat in a Day”

2) Teacher guides the students to fill in the worksheets based on

what they eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

“A Letter from Dr.

Apple”

1) Teacher introduce them a doctor, Dr. Apple and tells the

students that they receive a letter (Appendix G) and reads the

letter to the students.
