How To Make Tiramisu

Information

Tiramisu is an Italian dessert that is traditionally served as an afternoon “boost”

Contains both caffeine and alcohol in a creamy mixture served in layers

Many varieties exists, but this recipe does not use any eggs (cooked or raw)

Anyone who likes coffee, cheese and chocolate will really like this

Ingredients (serves 8)

20 Lady’s Fingers 2 shots (60mL) espresso ½ cup (120mL) coffee 1 cup (240mL) heavy whipping cream 1lb mascarpone cheese ½ cup granulated sugar 3 tablespoons (44mL) rum Cocoa power Shavings of unsweetened dark chocolate

Equipment

2 medium sized bowls for mixing Electric mixer or hand mixer 8x8inch pan Plastic wrap

Steps

Step 1: Chill whipping cream and bowl. Mix coffee and espresso and chill.

Step 2: Whisk the whipping cream until it reaches stiff peaks using either an electric mixer or by hand

Step 3: Put the cheese, sugar, and brandy into a medium bowl and mix until smooth. Add more sugar or alcohol as desired.

Step 4: Fold in the whipped cream to create the cheese mixture.

Step 5: Soak lady fingers in espresso for a couple seconds, rotating to coat all sides. Place lady fingers side by side on bottom of a 8x8-in. pan.

Step 6: Place half the cheese mixture on lady fingers in pan. Smooth with a spatula or spoon.

Step 7: Sift cocoa powder liberally on surface of layer.

Step 8: Apply second layer of lady fingers and remaining cheese.

Step 9: Sift cocoa powder and half of chocolate shavings.

Step 10: Cover in plastic wrap and chill. To serve, use the remaining chocolate

shavings by sprinkling a bit onto eight plates. Cut tiramisu into eight

rectangles and serve on plates.

Conclusion

How long does it take? 30-60 minutes to make +4 hours to chill and serve

Why chill the bowl & whipping cream? Cream whips better when chilled

Any ingredient substitutes? Cream cheese + milk = mascarpone
