Players, parents andcoaches of Ballard MemorialHigh and Ballard CountyMiddle schools’ volleyballteams met on Nov. 15 tocelebrate the program’s bestseason ever. The team fin-

ished the year with its high-est rankings ever, rankedsecond in the 1st Region inKentucky VolleyballCoaches’ Associationpolling, and 38th overall inthe state.

Awards were given to thefollowing players:

Middle School – Whiteteam Hustle Award, MakaylaDowdy; Serving Award andMVP, Alexis Donelson.Green team Hustle Award,Marybeth Myers; ServingAward, Tessa Blankenship;MVP, Lindsey Miller.

Freshman – Most im-proved, Kristen Compton;Serving Award, JasmineBrooks; MVP, McKenzieScott.

Junior varsity – Most im-proved, Jillian Babb; Serv-ing Award, RebekahHogancamp; MVP, MadisonTrusha

Varsity – Serving Award,Jade Tilford (95.2 percentserving); Defensive Playerof the Year, Taylor Foster(team-high 189 digs); coMVPs Jade Tilford (744 as-sists, 77 digs, 59 kills, 14blocks) and Cydnie Wiggins(led team in kills with 346,second in digs with 169,90.6 percent serving);Coaches Award, ElizabethGoodin (second in kills with330, third in digs with 130,led team with 60 blocks, 54aces).

The Ballard Memorialfootball program held their2012 banquet to honor theirmiddle school and highschool teams on the 2012season. The banquet washeld at the school cafeteria onMonday night, November19th with the meal preparedby Pizza Hut. Second yearcoach John Elliott and Prin-cipal David Meinschein gavethe opening comments be-fore eating. Barlow FirstBaptist Church Youth Minis-ter Scott Fickes was recog-nized with a plaque for hisThursday devotionals he heldwith the team, and thenFickes said the blessing forthe food.

After the meal, the awardsand recognition ceremonybegan. Cheerleading sponsorLauren Pace recognized thecheerleaders for their contri-butions for the year and theendless hours they put inthroughout the season.Middle School sponsorCourtney Polivick did thesame recognition for the mid-

dle school cheerleaders. Many of the behind the

scenes personnel were recog-nized with Mrs. Allardinstarting with her trainers thathelped take care of the teamduring practice and on gameday. Coach Kennedy recog-nized the student managersthat helped keep the team hy-drated during time outs andran errands for the teamthroughout the season aswell as James Tyson forfilming the games and theAdvance Yeoman for the cov-erage provided to the teamduring the season. AnissaJohnson took time to paytribute to all the unspokenheroes that also made contri-butions to the team.

Coach Bledsoe introducedthe middle school team mem-bers with Coach Elliott in-troducing the JV team,followed by the varsity team,and then the four seniors inattendance. Those four sen-iors that put on a Bomberuniform for the last time thisseason were Chris Tyson,JayBo Sadler, Alex Dunn,and Mason Weir.

The team accomplish-ments that were discussedwere the seven wins on theyear, which was the first timesince 2002 the football teamhad won more games thanthey had lost. They wontheir last ever meetings withHeath and Reidland, and madethe Class 2A playoffs for thefirst time. They made theplayoffs in a tough five teamdistrict that also includedCaldwell County, who willbe competing in the statechampionship game on Sat-urday, December 1st. Foot-ball booster club PresidentKen Johnson also took timerecognize the other boosterofficers and especiallythanked Sonya Windt andRyan Jackson for keeping thegrill going at all the homefootball games, andStephanie Hook for arrang-ing the concession stand du-ties, and James Tyson for hiswork on filming the gamesfor the team. Johnson alsodiscussed fundraisers per-formed this season to helpraise funds for the footballprogram.

The football team invitedeveryone out to Betty’sRestaurant in Barlow on Sat-urday, January 19th for a pan-cake breakfast fundraiser.The night concluded with an-nouncing the BomberStrength Program starting onMonday, November 26th andthe team’s motto headinginto the offseason, “WorkWins”. A team highlightfilm was shown as everyonewas leaving as a reminder ofthe great season that saw theteam go 7-4 on the year asthey already start preparingfor the 2013 season whichgets under way in ninemonths.
