A NAPLE programme, 2011-2012

• Programme launched in October 2011 with a call for participation

• Up till now:

11 NAPLE members participating 20 Sisterships accomplished

61 European Public Libraries participating

• Coordinated at NAPLE Secretariat in Madrid

• Every NAPLE country participating has a contact person for their country, they disseminate the call and receive the applications from

libraries in their country

Libraries can apply at any time

Libraries decide on the content of their sistership

Libraries may or may not sign a formal agreement

Libraries can have as many sister libraries as they want to keep

How can a public library participate?

Only requirement: to be a public library located in one

of the participating countries

Some examples of the first activities:

• Arucas Municipal Library (Spain) & Municipal Piekary Slaskie Library (Poland): Book Day, reading clubs

• Piekary Śląskie Library has invited their 5 sister libraries to participate in an art competition for children. The competition is for children up to the age of 13, who frequent the Sister

Libraries in Split (Croatia), Haapavesi and Iisalmi (Finland), Arucas and Vilanova i la Geltru (Spain).

• Piekary Śląskie Library has also interchanged books, DVDs, CDs and other materials about their cities and libraries with their sisters.

• Krapina Public Library (Croatia): Published in website, television and newspapers,t hey have also sent a textual and pictorial story on the history and monuments for their sister

libraries Tielt-Winge (Belgium) and Sant Joan de Vilatorrada (Spain). They have also received materials from them.

How can a NAPLE member

country participate?

Let us know

Designate someone/yourself to be the contact in your country and send us his/her email adress

We make the announcement that your country is participating both in Sister Libraries Website and NAPLE Blog

You/person in charge do the dissemination of the programme in your own country in the way you deem best (announcements in listservs, blogs,

websites, etc.) referring to Sister Libraries Website.

Your tasks

Do the dissemination of the call for participation

Be the contact person in your country, libraries will send their applications to you and you forward them to us

Stay in touch with us and the libraries to follow their developments
