Basic Method Optimization

The following guidelines will help the operator to adapt and optimize (if required) the basic methods to the specific problems:

POOR DIGESTION QUALITY

Increase T1 of the two last program Steps in 10°C increments.

Extend Time of the last step.

Reduce weight and / or increase quantity of chemicals / concentration of acids.

Optimize acid mixtures particularly with inorganic samples.

 Use stirrer.

With good quality of digestion, the last program step can be reduced

Q/P-SENSOR ACTIVE EARLIER THAN EXPECTED

Replace possible defective parts (vessel / cover, etc.).

Reduce sample weights to generate smaller quantities of gas.

Extend heating steps 1 and 2 (Temperature increase / flatter gradients).

 Reduce the Temperatures.

Addo one, two ml of water in the acid mixture.

Reduce HCl portion for digestions with HNO3 / HCl.

With good quality of digestion, the last step can be reduced.

If very high temperatures are reached, add high boiling acids.

Check this cookbook before run a new sample.

T1-WISHED TEMPERATURE IS NOT REACHED

 Extend the heating steps accordingly.

 Increase the microwave power emissions.

Total solvent quantity is too small – Caution with power increase.

Use vessels for small sample quantities.
