The Tradition Continues
DVMA once again lent some “muscle” to the annual Walnut Festival Twilight Parade when Larry
Booth and Joe Dearing assisted with transporting local dignitaries along the parade route. Of
course, we suspect the enthusiastic cheering was less for the passengers and more about Larry’s
2007 Redfire Roush Roadster and Joe’s 2003 silver and black Roush/Cottington California Road-
ster! The parade opens the almost week-long celebration in Walnut Creek that pays homage to
the city’s nut-growing heritage. DVMA has done this for many years now and the parade organ-
izers usually can count on us to step up.

DVMA Dispatch President Message
October 16 is the date for the Installation dinner at The Cobra Experience in
Martinez. Officers begin their terms on Sept 1 and are already on it, so this
year there will be a fun party for all of our members. It will be the perfect time
to share ideas about the future of DVMA and meet all the officers who are vol-
unteering their time. Be sure to pay ahead and make your reservation since
there will not be any unpaid entries at the door. You will enjoy the dinner and
the displays at The Cobra Experience.
Our past president John Haugrud is the tour director this year. There will be
lots of exciting events that you can participate in. Let John know about your
own ideas for fun in DVMA.
DVMA has a new newsletter editor and welcomes your articles and infor-
mation. Write up something and get a few photos about your new or old Mus-
tangs! We all want to hear about your dreams and implementation of any
changes and upgrades.
This year will be exciting for me. Check out our newsletter, the website, and
visit with all of our members at our monthly meetings!
Adopt-a-Street Saturday, November 5th at 9:00 am
We will meet in the Seafood City parking lot at 9 am and break into groups to clean up Diamond Blvd. Bring a 5 gallon bucket to hold the trash bag. We will go to breakfast afterwards as it is the first Saturday. Adopt-a-Street usually lasts 45 minutes to an hour.
If you want to join us for breakfast come to Seafood City at 10.
The dates for the next year are February 4, April 29, August 5 and November 4, 2017. Mark your calendars.

September Meeting Minutes (Continued)
Ron Freitas Regional MCA Director and DVMA Rep
Ron Freitas described his trip to Indianapolis. Ron led a big group from Sacramento on Hwy 40 to Donner Lake. Thanks to all DVMA members who joined this leg of the trip. The group went to Silverton, CO at l0,000 ft high. Then over the pass at 11,600 ft and there was snow but the road was clear. The Colorado Monument in Grand Junction was excellent. Ron had lots of firsts for his car on this trip. One first was with rain, strong/fast/heavy in Kansas, with about 2 inches of water on the road in just a few minutes. In St Louis, Ron was able to get a very rare permit for the group to cross the Chain of Rocks Bridge on Hwy 66; local car clubs joined in! When everyone arrived at the Show, the great signage helped and check-in was quick and easy. The Parade didn’t make the Guinnes record book; there were 522 of 762 needed cars for the parade. Ron and family enjoyed the zoo and the area around Indianapolis. Ford announced that you could drive to Las Vegas, pay $17,000 and get your car turned into an E (Shelby) car. And excitement on the track! Jeff Mays led the group at a bit over the required 55 mph through the banked turns. Ron discovered that he didn’t have to turn the steering wheel as the car just drove itself! The night at the Museum was fun. On the way home, Ron stopped at Ameri-can Pickers, at John Deere factories, and saw lots of corn growing, and saw a huge Cabella’s in a tiny town far from anything else. He had a wonderful steak on a very hot plate in Cheyenne, WY. Every day there was something new and no rain on the way back.
