Terms and Definitions

Microinverter- small inverter rated to handle the output of a single or two solar panels, and converts

direct current (DC) from a solar panel to alternating current (AC).

Trunk Cable- cable assembly for alternating current (AC) application consisting of UL TC-ER rated

cable and with connector or cable assembly molded together to for a T junction.

Drop Cable– cable assembly consisting of UL TC-ER cable and connector molded together attached

to microinvreter and applied for AC output.

Bulkhead Connector– waterproof panel mount connector attached to the microinverter and serving

as an AC output.

Landscape and Portrait Installation– different orientations of PV panels installation whether it is

oriented horizontally (landscape) or vertically (portrait).

Cable Pitch– the distance between the center of any T junction to the centre of the next one.

Product Description

Amphenol LTW AC Trunk Cable microinverter solution improves power performance, ease of

installation, reducing installation cost and cost of ownership. The AC trunk cabling systems enables

installer the customize ability to determine the numbers of T junctions needed for each project.

Two types of applications

There are two types of possible applications of the trunk cable:

Solution 1 – “PT” Series, part number starts with PT

Trunk cable consists of the T junction with molded connector, microinverter has a drop cable for AC

output that is connected to the T Junction.

Solution 2 – “PA” Series, part number starts with PA

Trunk cable consists of the T junction with molded cable assembly that exits up from the trunk cable

and connects to the bulkhead connector which is installed on the microinverter and serves as AC

output.

Connector Spacing Options

Depending on the PV panel installation there are two suggested standard pitch dimensions between

connectors

A. Pitch = 170cm (1.70m) for Landscape Installation

B. Pitch = 250cm (2.05m) for Landscape Installation

C. Pitch = 105cm (1.05m) for Portrait Installation

Custom pitch is possible and reflected in the part number

Cable Type and Length Options

Application of the microinverters for single, split and three phase requires different number of

conductors and terminals.

Amphenol LTW provides solution for AC trunk cabling solution is available in two options:

For single phase: 3 conductors / 3 terminals

For split phase: 4 conductors / 4 terminals

Wire size varies from the number of microinverters to be connected in one string

Numbers of the T junctions in trunk cable is determined by the part number, and can be produced in

the bulk quantity according to the customer requirements.

Depending on the AC trunk cable wire gauge (AWG) and its maximum current capacity number of

installed microinverters in a single string should be limited to (based on UL):

Recommended number of Microinverters maximum 17 per Trunk cable

Drop cable has single option of 18AWG and cable length available in three options of 0.7m, 1m

Accessories

Waterproof Cap is used on the trunk or drop cable when complete sealing from water and dust are

needed, for example when one of the microinverters is not connected to the trunk cable. Waterproof

cap is IP67 rated and can protect from water ingress if submerged at the depth of 1m for 30 minutes.

To unlock waterproof caps unlocking tool is required.

Cable End Cap – used to protect and seal exposed cable wires in case where installers need to cut

trunk cable during the installation to adjust the length or number of the microinverters used. End cap is

IP67 rated and can be assembled only once, locking mechanism does not allow cap to be opened.

Once used cap needed to be dispose a new cap is to apply.

Unlocking tool – used to disassemble mated connectors on the trunk cable and drop cable or

bulkhead connector assembled to microinverter. Tool is also used to unlock waterproof caps.

Assembly Instructions

Step 1:

Determine cable wire gauge and cable length required for installation based on the number of

microinverters to be installed in a single string (based on UL):

Recommended number of Microinverters according to Microinverter manufacturer specifications

Step 2:

Roll out the cable on the roof along the mounting rail (other surface) and position the T junctions

opposite to the microinverters that are going to be connected to the Trunk cable.

Step 3:

Cut the excess cable and apply Cable End Cap to secure cable end and provide waterproof protection.

Cable End cap comes in two options for 10AWG and 12AWG cable, which is indicated in the part

number.

Step 4:

Secure T junction with cable ties using the cavities of the overmold or other reliable method

Step 5: Align the mating connectors and join mating parts together as shown below

Note: Do not apply excessive force when mating the connectors, wrong key alignment will result in

connectors not properly joint, please check if the key is aligned properly before assembly.

Note: When connectors are properly locked a “click” sound will be heard and the locking hooks on the

connector will align and lock in place.

Step 6: Secure the unconnected T junctions with waterproof cap. Waterproof caps must cover all

unconnected connectors and will provide IP67 sealing to avoid risks of electrical shock and short

circuits when the system is engaged.

Disassembly Instructions

To unlock connectors please use tool provided.

Unlocking tool must be insert in the right direction and into the opening of the connectors to unlock.

Once the hooks of the connector disengage, separate the connectors apart.
