“Mrs. Cirelli was my mom at Andover,” says Felipe Storch de Oliveira ’12 of Eva Cirelli, P’12, admission office administrative assistant and hostess. “She inspired me to pursue my dreams, motivated me when I thought I couldn’t go on, and demonstrated the importance of a compassionate heart. She even told me when my blazer needed a good ironing.”

va met Felipe in 2010 when he traveled from his native Rio Branco, Brazil, to attend Summer Session. “I saw immediately that he wanted to devour that opportunity, and I felt a motherly instinct to help nourish his dreams,” explains Eva. “Andover’s community supports students and

guides them to develop the best in themselves,” she adds.

“I could not even afford the $185 for the English as a Second Language test required to apply,” says Felipe. “Not only did the Academy pay for all of the application process, I received a full scholarship when I was accepted. I never gave up because Mrs. Cirelli believed in me. She said, ‘I will be your host mother.’ ”

As an undergraduate at Franklin & Marshall College, Felipe began his study of environmental science and economics this fall. “Andover taught me that education is crucial if you want to make a difference, and I intend to make a difference by helping to preserve my native Amazon rainforest.”
