ANNUAL REPORT

2019

Ontario Sailing

President’s and Executive Director’s Report 2019

Ontario Sailing has had a very active year. Highlights for this year include:

A continued partnership with Sail Canada and The Royal Canadian Yacht Club in the delivery of High Performance in Ontario. We purchased a 60-foot by 12-foot trailer for the Training Centre located on RCYC property at the foot of Parliament Street. This way coaches and athletes can

work together in training.

Twenty-one new Clubs/Schools joined Ontario Sailing making this one of the largest growth years

for membership in over twenty years. We value our current members and those joining. Sailing can only be as strong as the support system in place through our partnership with our members,

Ontario Sailing and Sail Canada.

We received the same funding this year from the Province of Ontario and continue as the fourth

ranked sport in Ontario.

We are working with the Government of Canada and Sail Canada for the delivery of a great

2021 Canada Summer Games being hosted by the Buffalo Canoe Club.

Our numbers of those in CANSAIL programming will peak at over 7500.

Instructor programs and Race Official Training will peak at over 620 people.

Social media followers have grown to over 4000.

Retention in membership has been set at 92% or even higher.

We are happy to report that we had no accidents with our staff on or off the water.

Our COAST program continues to support our clubs in a very positive way.

Ontario Sailing added a new truck to our fleet and repowered one of our VSR coach boats.

Ontario Sailing’s BOOM Mobile School was totally sold out for the season.

Our Board is going through a governance change to a Policy Board and will be presenting new By-

Laws to our membership on November 9th at our Annual General Meeting.

We continue to receive strong support from our Board led by President Peter Bradley.

We want to thank all the staff, volunteer chairs and members of our active committees, clubs,

schools, camps and every member of each organization that helps grow our sport!

Yours in Sailing,

Glenn Lethbridge, Executive Director

Peter Bradley, President

Treasurer’s Report 2019

November 6th, 2019

Ontario Sailing received an unqualified audit report from our independent audit firm of Hilborn

LLP on the 2019 financial statement prepared by management and approved by the board. The

audited financial statements as at March 31, 2019 are available on the Ontario Sailing website

and, if you are interested, you will also find several of the prior years’ statements.

2018/2019 was another successful year for Ontario Sailing operationally. Total revenues were

$1,209,392, expenses $1,219,599, with a small net loss after depreciation of $-10,207.

Our largest contributor to revenue is from grants from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and

Sport at $243,408 and have been consistent year over year. We have seen growth in our

Membership at $245,656, and a successful year of participation in our BOOM program at

$126,336.

Management and staff are responsible to manage expenses and have operated to plan.

Opportunities to improve and deliver programs across the Province are reviewed by management

to reduce costs through travel, facilities rental, and collaboration with our Members and Partners.

Over the last several years, Ontario Sailing has grown its net assets to $965,327, a small decrease

from $969,069 in 2018. While the net assets available are modest, they are healthy enough to

manage organizational cash flow, deliver reliable programs and even develop new programs.

Ontario Sailing will be working towards building our Hans Fogh Fund which as an endowment

fund has the purpose of supporting High Performance, Coaching and Office Training into the

future. Staff will be releasing opportunities this coming year for members to support this very

important fund named after one of Canada’s most gifted sailors.

Lastly, I would like to thank all the Ontario Sailing team for a successful 2019, particularly

Laura Robson, our Accounting Manager. The Auditor mentioned how exceptional the

bookkeeping was during our meeting to discuss the 2019 Audit.

Regards,

Rob Cheevers
